Do you ever think about Nephi, Samuel, Laman, and Lemuel growing up together? Before they built a boat, before they had to leave, before they saw an angel, before they got the plates, they were just kids.

They played together. They laughed together. They argued with each other. They hit each other too hard and said "it's ok you can hit me back just don't tell mom." Nephi copied everything his older brothers did. They were outwardly annoyed but secretly loved it. Some of Laman and Lemuel's earliest memories are holding Sam and Nephi as babies. All of Nephi and Sam's memories have Laman and Lemuel there too. Their parents said "you can go but you have to bring Nephi and Sam." One day Laman, Lemuel, and Sam woke up and realized Nephi had grown taller than all of them. He teased them about all the time.

When they saw an angel after Lamen and Lemuel tried to kill Sam and Nephi did Sam try to protect his baby brother? Was he torn between the brothers he looked up to his entire life and the one he felt he needed to protect? When they tied Nephi up on the boat and it stormed did Nephi remembered how they used to play in the rain? Did he see the scared look in their eyes and remember how they used to be terrified of thunder? When they murmured against him was he reminded of how they used to complain about cleaning their room? Did he see them talking to their kids and remember them talking to him in the same way? Did he forgive them over and over again because he couldn't help but see them as the cool older brothers he used to have?

That's why I try not to make sacrament meeting talks too complicated and don't expect everyone to know what I'm talking about, rather the opposite.

Lessons in 2nd hour can be deeper bc people can ask questions there, but talks should (imo) be simple so visitors can follow along nicely. Also speak clearly so translation software can pick everything up when there's someone who doesn't speak the language well.

Making people feel welcome is crucial. If we seem secretive and closed in, that's just stereotypically culty. If we speak too complicated for others that want to listen, we're making people that are generally "unwelcome" feel even more so. I feel we can adjust to this!

When I was growing up, I had this twisted sense of superiority over other girls because unlike them, I didn't have any desire to commit any of the 'girly sins' like dating before 16 or wearing immodest clothing or showing off my body or spending lots of money in order to be pretty.
