She tried other names she had read about, candy.ai among them, before settling. Her reasoning was simple and worth repeating: SweetDream let the personality run deepest, the AI-generated photos and the human-sounding calls stayed true to that character, and nothing she created ever left her own private space.

So I missed episodes 1-3 of Utena and im catching up now and damn Utena literally accidentally became a slaveowner by trying to fight for her bestie’s honor wtf
Again asking how in all the utenaposting I’ve seen for years the slavery is almost never mentioned. Anthy is first shown getting her ass beat by her “master” and then later is shown scrubbing rooms clean as one of the only darkskinned characters and that’s like 2 episodes in
Also to be clear - this is a very intentional and reoccurring theming in this. It’s not happenstance it’s VERY explicit which makes the fact I’ve seen so little about it absolutely unhinged to me. I’ve only been through 6 episodes total so far and I cannot imagine discussing this beyond quips without the slavery being a huge factor bc it colors everything in a different light
Like the themes of assault/sexual assault aren’t just that of a woman, but of an enslaved woman. Themes of ensuring an enslaved, darker-skinned woman, knows and remembers “her place” when seen to be reaching above her station solely by existing and being owned. Just.
Unironically I would’ve watched this years ago if literally any of this came up it besides “omg lesbian trans-coded anime”
There’s a bunch of people in my notes every time I’m utenaposting about “oh well *I* knew this and so does everyone else i know that watched it, it’s so obvious” meanwhile most of the POC I’ve talked to say they had the same experience of not knowing Utena was strongly about slavery until they watched it bc they never saw (white) queer utena fans talking about it, or not knowing it was a theme until I posted about it despite seeing people post about RGU for years
So like yeag it’s obvious but one of us lyin here and I’m gonna guess it ain’t me and other queers of color
I need you to understand that while slavery in the US was/is of Black folks, and still exists in the US in multiple forms, there's also modern slavery of not just Black people, but Asian people as well—one example being of Filipinos both within The Philippines and abroad.
Like while im making comparison to Black experience because I'm Black, I'm still reading Anthy as Indian AND as a slave because she is.
An important contextual note is that *Japan was also a colonial empire that focused its subjugation towards other Asians*. A bunch of Japanese and white/mixed folks treating Anthy. that way at a British-inspired Japanese boarding school isn't exactly a novel concept!
Subjugation of "lesser Asians" was(/is) a huge fucking thing!
