But gender roles are not entirely absent from my headcanon either: a shieldmaiden's job is not to ride into war but to protect her home ("The women of this country learned long ago, those without swords can still die upon them") and while the occupation is not explicitly discouraged, surely some men will hold the opinion that a woman's life is better suited to homemaking and bearing children.

In this dichotomy plays my character Hroswyn's story, a captain's daughter and trained shieldmaiden who unexpectedly becomes a mother and finds herself torn away from her dream to one day succeed her father.

This is a drawing of a Pinto Pony and a Water Serpent. It was done with tempera and graphite. The artist, Julian Martinez, is a Native American artist. While I don't know much about the significance of this piece, the simplicity and bright colors are striking. I wonder why the pony and water serpent are fighting. Maybe the pony stepped on the serpent's tail. Be careful when walking through a creek; you don't know what you might find.

I wouldn't call myself a superfan as I mostly was fan of Twin Peaks and only touched the surface of his work (loved a lot of his shorts). When I saw him in interviews he always seemed like a hoot of a guy.
