idk man i just think despite all your gripes and grievances and anger with robby as a character, and your hatred of his realistic character flaws, by far the more important feedback to the pitt creators is the feedback from medical professionals who adore robby.
this show was made to honour medical workers and highlight their struggles and realities in that workplace/area. when they say that robby is exactly like them, or like doctors or nurses that they knew and loved who committed suicide (the cast have visited hospitals where doctors have spoken to them and thanked them, and talked about their "own doctor robby" who sadly didn't live), and that they have been crying out for this truthful and non-sensationalised reprasentation, they are the ones who really matter here in this conversation. not you.
they deserve this complex and nuanced and empathetic character at a breaking point, and they deserve to see his storyline, and they deserve to get this good reprasentation of what it's really like to feel like you're holding up the world on your shoulders in a system falling apart. they deserve it all. we're all here because of them. they don't deserve a watered down, piss-poor showing of their own trauma because you can't grasp the nuance of a genuine character.
so, you know, im sorry that you don't like the ugly realities of robby's breakdown. sorry about that. but the medical professionals who relate so universally to robby's life and experience are infinitely more important here, and they dont deserve to be sidelined due to your discomfort with reality.
just backing this up with the story that the cast and crew learned during season two when a chief attending very similar to robby with his tenacity and leadership was a shining star amongst his peers went home one day and shot himself in the head. the rippling side effects of that devastated them and he's one of thousands out there who are a victim of the healthcare system and their stories portrayed by these characters deserve to be told. they deserve to be represented.

Thinking about Jack deducing that Robby and Dennis are together through the type of food in Robby's home. While the two are hanging out Jack asks if he can steal a drink from Robby. Of course, he's already opened the fridge by the time Robby says he can help himself.
Jack pauses when he sees the food present. Cheese sticks.. a fuck ton of spaghetti.. tubs of icing…? When he grabs his drink he jokes "you got pizza rolls in the freezer?"
He expects Robby to laugh but instead the man casually says he does. Jack laughs to himself and opens the freezer out of curiosity. He sees pizza rolls, three of the same microwaveable meal, and hot pockets.
"What, are you in your 20s?" Jack jokes. The moment he says that everything clicks to him.
"MICHAEL, YOU DID NOT!" is the next thing to leave his mouth.

Liked the feel of soft cool sheets directly against his skin, liked not getting overheated and sweating all night, liked being able to fantasize about hands roaming over every inch of him that was exposed, feeling skin against skin, soft cock squished against his plush mattress.
But it was hard to sleep naked when you were sharing a room with your older brother, then impossible when you were homeless, and somehow even harder when you had a roommate that didn't understand personal boundaries, or knocking, when she came barging into your room first thing in the morning.
So he may have gotten overly comfortable at Robby's place.
Finally having a private space where he didn't have to worry about being intruded on, means he may have made himself overly comfortable.
May have made him just a step too brazen, closing all his attendings blinds and spending half his time in the apartment naked.
So he liked feeling free, and soft, and yeah sometimes he liked catching his naked reflection in mirrors, and the glass of picture frames.
It's not like he was hurting anyone.
Or, he wasn't, until…
Dancing and singing along to I Heard It Through The Grapevine, he cooked his morning egg in toast, loving the rush of air around him as he twirled and dipped and rolled his hips.
He didn't hear the front door open and close, or the uneven gait of Dr. Abbot approaching, or the slight gasp as he found Dennis naked in the kitchen.
It wasn't until he twirled, pan in hand, about to attempt a ridiculously high and very unnecessary flip of his egg in the hole; when he finally spotted the attending standing slack jawed a few feet away.
Watching Dennis, unblinking and spellbound.
Their eyes meet as Dennis chokes back a scream, and Jack flushes beet red, throwing his hands over his eyes.
Scrambling to dump the burning pan back on the stove top, Dennis squeaks out a series of ‘Don't Look!'s as he ducks behind the kitchen island, trying to find literally anything to cover himself with.
And somewhere behind him there's a tight, strained, “I didn't see anything!” that he believes about as much as he believes it when a patient comes in and says they fell on whatever was currently lodged in their ass.
He can hear Jack's stomping footsteps as he rushes to get out, seeming to back track, stumble, and slip.
Dennis hears the sickening crunch of cartilage about a half a second before the kitchen rattles with the heavy sound of Jack's body hitting the floor.
His stomach drops and he's on his feet, clutching a wrinkled apron as he rounds the island, forgetting about his lack of clothing and focusing on making sure Jack didn't seriously hurt himself.
“Shit,” He hisses finding Abbot flat on his ass, hands still covering his eyes for some fucking reason, blood pouring out of his nose. “Are you ok?”
Carefully sitting him up he starts using the apron to dab away blood as he tries to evaluate how bad it is.
“‘M fine.” Jack grunts, a nasally, pained sound as Dennis probes the cartilage, feeling for a break.
“I don't think it's broken.” He gently pries Jack's hands away, ducking his head to try and get a good look at his pupils.
Blinking hard at the stormy hazel eyes staring back at him. Slightly watery from running face first into whatever it was.
Fucking gorgeous.
It's not fair having the full force of them unleashed on him this close up.
He finds himself lost for a moment, struggling to remember what it is he was meant to be doing.
His mouth hangs open. He was gonna say something… or ask a question maybe?
Jack's eyes trace his bottom lip, and then Dennis watches them slowly drop, down, down, down, and his pupils blow wide, nearly swallowing his irises.
Flushing lobster red again, Jack slaps a hand over his eyes with a wounded noise, accidentally clipping his nose.
Pained and accusing, “You're still naked.”
Dennis swears hard, flailing as he struggles to open the stained and bloody apron to put it on.
“Sorry, sorry, I'm decent now, I promise, you can look again.”
Jack does, pupils still fat and hungry, raking over just how little the apron covers, “I wouldn't say you're decent, but you're not naked anymore”
Dennis can't help but blush at the flirty lilt to Jack's words, thinking he must have given himself brain damage or something to be hitting on Dennis.
“What are you doing here anyway?”
“Fucking-” Jack gestures vaguely to… somewhere, “Robby asked me to check in on you. Make sure you didn't burn the place down.”
Oh god.
Robby.
Jack's best friend.
Who Jack is no doubt going to immediately run and blab to this about. Finding his house sitter naked and using his apartment as a nudist paradise.
He’s never going to live this down.
“Oh god, please, you can't tell him about this.” Dennis pleads, desperately grasping at Jack's hands. “Seriously, Dr. Abbot, I won't be able to show my face in the hospital ever again. Please don't tell him.”
Jack blinks at his intensity, glancing down at the grip Dennis has on him, then up to his mouth and finally settling on his eyes.
“I won't.” Abbot murmurs, shaking his head softly, all sincerity. “I wouldn't do that to you.”
“Thank you,” He breathes, nearly crumpling forward from the relief. “thank you."
“But ah-” He tenses, and Jack toys with his fingers, “maybe I could take you out for breakfast? Make up for ruining whatever you were making.”
Looks like Dennis has another reason for liking sleeping naked, after all, it led to his first date with Jack Abbot.

you know what we all moved on from too soon? the emotional implications of dana being fully aware the only person robby really listens to is jack and that the truly hard, painful truths ✨have✨ to come from jack to even have any chance of making it through to robby.
dana, who loves and respects robby, who robby clearly loves and respects right back, who robby can't fathom running the hospital without, but even through all that mutual adoration and affection there is still a final mile between them, a wall dana simply can’t breakthrough, one that robby is stubborn and steadfast about maintaining. whether that’s because of some kind of internalized bias or some misguided sense of responsibility or just sheer stubborness on robby’s end, who knows, but the cracks dana sees in robby are in spite of his effort, things robby is trying and failing to hide, rather than because robby lets her in to see him. robby trusts dana so much, but clearly still needs her to see him a certain way, to be the fearless leader, her partner in crime, someone who’s strong, the carer and never the one who needs care. if i had to guess i'd say at least toward the end of s2 he’s self aware enough to know dana has seen past that smokescreen, but even still at no point does robby ever let himself open up to her. he resists up until the very end and what he does reveals is reactive, almost out of his control, never meant to be shared except the veil is too thin and he is too tired to hide behind it.
with jack, robby still gnashes his teeth, but he’s doesn’t lie to him. it almost feels like he can’t, that he doesn't want to. oh he'll try to distract him, try to deflect so he doesn't have to give in, or he'll avoid him so he doesn't have to confront it, but when jack really really steps up to the plate and confronts robby directly it's almost like it's the secret code for robby's brain to shut up and listen. when jack point blank asks, robby answers. he hears him, even if he doesn't always believe him, even if he can't, and as far as we've seen on screen, it works. jack knows robby doesn't like to to listen because this is a song and a dance they've done before. when no one else can make robby even begin to listen, they look to jack to cross that line because it's a line he's been able to cross before.
and dana knows this, has clearly witnessed this enough times that she is fully aware that robby will defer to jack and listen to jack, especially when he will not listen to her. when jack can not read robby, he goes to dana, and when dana can not reach robby she goes to jack. dana is the sentinel, the watchful eyes and jack is the cavalry, the big guns, the hail mary when it comes to robby. dana is the brains and jack is the muscle and robby is the heart, and right now the heart is broken. the history that must exist between the three of them for both dana and jack to know this between them, to depend on one another to keep robby afloat. i imagine COVID pushed that to it's limit, and adamson's death pushed it right over that. years, maybe decades, of an unspoken rule that while robby tries keeps the hospital upright, dana and jack will try to keep robby upright and in the past year they've had to acknowledge it out loud twice now. dana knows that if robby is beyond her (and i imagine it doesn't happen that often), he is not beyond jack, and maybe up til now that has never ever been the case, but at the end of s2 it was so clear to me that dana was terrified they were there. jack spent that last hour watching robby, but dana spent that last hour watching jack, because dana knew that if robby was truly beyond them both, that was a robby they would lose forever.
sorry obviously forbidden love hucklerabbot is very fun and naughty but i LOVE hucklerabbot that totally eschews that
dennis in season 2 is clearly coming into his own -- he's smart, confident, and capable; his relationships with the other pittlings have clearly grown deeper and more robust (there's a reason why he sees through trinity so easily and why he is the one victoria vents to); he is steady-handed with ogilvie and joy despite both of them clearly pissing him off at times and regroups himself excellently
snapping at langdon is evidence of this confidence because he knows he isn't the same guy he was ten months ago; he's not homeless, hungry, and dealing with a mass casualty in a new environment. his reaction to robby asking him to housesit also clearly shows where his mind is; while he is visibly worried when robby jokes about not coming back, he still sets boundaries with robby, not with amy like robby suggested. he still drives off with amy at the end of his shift (a very clear mirror to robby's wife/child/pond speech) and demonstrates that while he is robby's new protege he does not feel an all-consuming need to prove himself to robby because he already understands most of who he is
i want this dennis -- confident and self-aware, perceptive beyond literally anyone else in the pitt except for mckay -- coming up against jack and robby on relatively equal footing. i love dennis knowing that robby is deeply mentally ill, recognizing that he is flawed, and rather than throwing it back in his face like langdon taking the good parts of what robby is showing him and amplifying them (his moment of silence for the dead patient in season 2) and taking the bad parts and undoing them (his willingness to learn & admit his bias when he and mckay have the patient with the ovarian torsion). i think the version of dennis whitaker who respects robby, understands he's a good teacher and a fantastic leader, but still understands that he is not infallible, is a version of dennis that is extremely interesting to examine.
pairing him with jack, who demonstrates many of these good qualities in turn (which is why he is so compelling in the context of the pitt, because he exists to remind us of who robby is capable of being when he isn't experiencing the two worst days of his life) gives us a fascinating dynamic -- two guys who together exemplify the best parts of who robby is and yet the parts that he can't see
When things get hard, Jack’s therapist has a habit of reminding him that going back to basics is smart, thoughtful, and kind. Jack’s rarely in the mood to hear it, but he gets it—gets that he has to do the ordinary shit, like drink enough water, if he wants to do the more complicated stuff, like figure out his fucking life. But it’s beyond irritating to have to care about putting actual meals in his face rather than inhaling a bag of Doritos before he crashes into bed at night. Annoying, if he’s honest.
There’s a chance the annoyance is displaced, he grants, but fuck it, he’s feeling his feelings.
Thing is, when Jack looks at Robby, when he sees him trying to find calm and quiet inside himself, enough to get through a shift now his sabbatical’s done, he wants to pass on the advice. Drink some fucking water, man. Go take a leak. Eat more than a protein bar. Does Robby even know what sleep is? The man has his own therapist now, one who’s stuck with it despite Robby’s no-doubt pugilistic attitude, and Jack’s pretty sure the ‘back to basics’ stuff is the kind of thing all therapists cover as a matter of rote. Still, Robby doesn’t seem to be doing any of it. It makes Jack want to climb the walls.
So he does something about it. Makes a point of buying Robby a really great water bottle, with all the mod cons water bottles offer these days, and sticks a label on it that says “use me, you dipshit.” (A similar bottle shows up two days later with a label that says “physician, heal thyself.” Fucking smartass.) Jack starts making himself a meal before he comes on shift, just so that he can put the leftovers in a plastic box and hand it to Robby before he leaves for the night. Robby starts showing up with breakfast in a to-go bag, shoving it in Jack’s hands and holding up a finger when Jack tries to protest.
Jack hates that he doesn’t say anything when Robby holds up that finger, but he’s learned it’s futile to argue, and he was done with being “tsk!”d when he was about nine.
Jack leaves sandwiches in the staff-room fridge, and Robby starts leaving salads, and Jack starts feeling better about the way Robby looks—better fed, more rested, like he’s not about to collapse, dehydrated; like he’s taking care of himself. He enjoys the salads, too, a meal he would never, ever make for himself because of all the faff involved, the ingredients, the fucking choices when it comes to dressing. He’s happy to let Robby do the thinking.
Shifts being what they are, there’s a stretch of three days where they’re both out of the ED, and Jack texts Robby on day two, asks if he wants to go to a game, and they eat more hotdogs than anyone should, and beer is not technically the way to take care of the resulting thirst, but whatever. Robby hoots when there’s a double play and Jack looks over at him, at the way he seems more whole, reaches out to pat his knee out of deep-felt satisfaction, and then just leaves his hand there for reasons that he doesn’t care to delve into too deeply.
Robby looks back at him. “You okay?”
Jack gives him a nod. “I think I am.”
The smile Robby gives him is some kind of pleased-as-punch and maybe even a little smug. He covers Jack’s hand with his own, and then they’re just sitting there, holding hands, watching three shitty pitches in a row, and Jack bumps his shoulder against Robby’s, and Robby bumps his shoulder back.
Trying to be happy about The Pitt Emmy nominations but jfc people are making it incredibly difficult by being unbearably obnoxious and miserable about it all.
Anyway, sure, I could talk about who I think gave a stronger or weaker performance in Season 2, but ultimately it feels moot because generally speaking, pretty much all core actors on The Pitt have enough talent and charisma to win an Emmy. Those who will be around for multiple seasons will get the chance again next year, and in the meantime they might get nominated elsewhere for a different award as well. The Emmys aren't the only game in town, and this isn't the Hunger Games, ffs.
But I'm going to say that the one person I think was genuinely snubbed, in the sense that her performance was brilliant and no one even mentioned her? Amielynn Abellera. She was so good as Perlah in Season 2. She deserved at least for people to bring her up in conversation about the Emmys, but I didn't see a single journalist even drop her name.
So my hot take on Isa getting screwed is that the strength of her performance is the layers across the season and actors only submit a single episode (according to Gold Derby). This works out really well for Shawn and Fiona (nothing against them AT All but their storyline was more single episode specific) but not so much for her.

sad reality of the fanfic-to-published work economy is that the weirdest people are willing to do it. that's why there's now hundreds of shitty no plot cishet hate-to-love enemies-to-lovers books that are ex reylo fanfic. and it's not even good. that's because the people who wrote book-quality steve/bucky and kirk/spock fic are too normal to think to themselves "i should get this porn published". they're too busy working in local government offices
#imo the writers who write insanely good fanfic can’t file the serial numbers off because they grasped the canon so thoroughly #the shitty stuff is publishable because once you change the names you can’t recognize these people
GENERAL PSA FOR EVERYONE: GERRAN HOWELL IS A MAN. HE IS COMPETING IN THE MALE EMMY AWARDS. GERRAN DID NOT STEAL NOMINATIONS FROM SUPRIYA ISA OR SHABANA. THERE IS NOT A LIMIT ON HOW MANY PEOPLE FROM THE SHOW CAN BE NOMINATED. THERE ARE JUST FEWER MALE CHARACTERS. SHABANA ISA AND SUPRIYA ARE NOT MEN AND COMPETE IN THE FEMALE AWARDS CATEGORIES AND THUS WHETHER OR NOT GERRAN IS NOMINATED HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WHETHER OR NOT THEY ARE NOMINATED. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.
