I got two large second degree burns the other day and people are pissing me off more than the actual burns themselves. I understand it comes from a well intended place but it's getting to my head.
The recovery looks pretty gnarly, I’m not gonna lie. It's to be expected though. I burnt my skin. I figured that recovery, like the injury, wasn't going to look pretty. However, everyone around me seems to have the opposite impression. They grimace at the wound and get all worried over it. Dude, it’s recovering. Did you expect it to look like nothing happened? Get over yourself.
Then they go "It's gonna scar for life" as if it's the worst thing that can happen in life. Yes, it's gonna scar. Yes, that’s kind of upsetting. However, what am I supposed to do about it? Why encourage me to be upset over it? I honestly wasn’t upset about the scarring until people brought it up. I never saw a problem with it until people made it a problem.
And then it's "You shouldn’t be doing that" yes, you’re right, I shouldn’t have burnt myself. I didn’t do on purpose though. Why are we acting like I meant to do it? Accidents happen. Had I known that was going to happen I wouldn’t have made the mistake.
It's gotten into my head so bad. People are acting like I'm less capable because of some burn marks. I’m still me. It makes me wonder what would’ve happened if it was third degree. Would nobody trust me then? Would everyone see me as less? Why is a birthmark cool and fine but a scar is deserving of pity?

Thinking about Jack deducing that Robby and Dennis are together through the type of food in Robby's home. While the two are hanging out Jack asks if he can steal a drink from Robby. Of course, he's already opened the fridge by the time Robby says he can help himself.
Jack pauses when he sees the food present. Cheese sticks.. a fuck ton of spaghetti.. tubs of icing…? When he grabs his drink he jokes "you got pizza rolls in the freezer?"
He expects Robby to laugh but instead the man casually says he does. Jack laughs to himself and opens the freezer out of curiosity. He sees pizza rolls, three of the same microwaveable meal, and hot pockets.
"What, are you in your 20s?" Jack jokes. The moment he says that everything clicks to him.
"MICHAEL, YOU DID NOT!" is the next thing to leave his mouth.
sick robby from the fic Caring for a Stranger by DrottenDrottzen because i was having an off day and needed a pick me up
Wanna get on here and say I love trans Whitaker. Just saw a post of someone saying that imagining Whitaker as a trans man is odd. If you agree with that statement I need you to block me real quick. I love reading different interpretations of Whitaker. I love seeing how people’s experiences shape their writing. If you don’t support trans people I need you to block me immediately.
HUCKLEROBBY MINICOMIC!! (testing out if i still got it)
im not sure how best to word this, but I think the pitt fans who insist on trying to get the creators and writers to hear their views/complaints/opinions on fumbled (in their eyes) romantic relationships in the writing are forgetting that the feedback they're providing (often via way of hate comment) isn't the kind of feedback the pitt crew are interested in looking at particularly.
maybe that sounds harsh, but the reality is that the "feedback" that social media fans have overwhelmingly given (yes, I'll refer to the barrage of hate comments over cast changes and cast-hinted character relationships not happening) is not the kind of feedback the creative team are focusing on.
this is a medical show. it's not greys anatomy, it's not a multi-romance pile up with a clinical bow on top, it's a medical show. it was produced with the sole aim of educating about, and drawing attention to, the failing us medical system, and how that impacts hospital staff (especially in the wake of covid) and patients of all different demographics, while finally giving healthcare workers a voice.
*that* is what the show is about. *that* is what the show cares about getting right. they're telling the story of a doctor struggling with ptsd and severe mental health issues, and how the system has allowed that to happen. they're telling you to open your eyes and be aware of the precarious situation they are all in.
this is not a romance show. it isnt even a found family show, despite the fact we see interpersonal dynamics of the staff portrayed very well. the writers *are not very interested* in feedback about these things in relation to how interested they are in getting the medical side right.
because they *do* take feedback on board, and they take it seriously. and they prioritise feedback *from* the medical field, or relating to the medical cases. in season one, it was pointed out that there were no respiratory therapists in the ER when several cases displayed would've necessitated them to be present. in season two, respiratory therapists were duly added to improve accuracy. feedback around season two highlighted that many missed the prominent role of a black female doctor after collins' departure, as she provided an important presence for many black patients to feel comfortable and recieve higher quality care, and they've responded by writing ellis as a main character next season to make sure that's done justice.
the feedback they want is to do with their main purpose as a medical show, and that's the feedback they'll respond to. while yeah, some romantic relationships may be on display (trinity and garcia, for example), this is not and will not be a focus for them. it can enhance a character storyline, but it will never *be* a character's storyline. it makes sense that if they were to choose between acting on feedback about mohabbot (im sorry, mohabbot fans, but this is the one I see lamented most) or about medical care portrayal.... they're picking the medical care.
the interpersonal relationships we get to see should probably be treated as more like the icing on the cake, rather than the cake itself. it's not that the pitt writers don't hear what people say about their decisions, it's just that a lot of the critique is irrelevant to the point of their show, and fanservice by way of romance is not even *on* their to do list, let alone near the top.

robby who's been sitting in a shitty motel room for hours, legs bouncing and stilling, bouncing and stilling, sitting on the edge of the queen bed with an ugly comforter. robby who's been fidgeting with a bottle of pills for the past hour, knowing it's enough, it would be enough. the air conditioner hums, white noise in the otherwise silent room.
robby who knows no one is coming to save him. no one is coming to take the pills from his hands or coddle him or kiss it better, and it's been decades since he's deserved anything like that. robby who knows he's alone, and feels it in every inch of his body, in his marrow, rotting his bones from the inside out. robby who doesn't want to die. he just wants his mom.
rotating the bottle in his hands, over and over, toying with it, with his life. willing his phone to ring, but it never does. jack texts him, sometimes, dennis, even rarer. call me if it gets dark. puts all the pressure on him, huh? to reach out? to lift his phone that feels heavier than it should, limbs frail, hands shaking? to find the contact and press call, knowing that in the seconds it'll take him to do so, he'll succumb to cowardice and not call at all?
it's the closest he's come to resenting jack, truly, wholly resenting him. because fuck him for that, fuck him for not calling. fuck him for offering instead of forcing. fuck him for letting him leave that goddamn hospital. fuck him for ever wrapping robby in a hug if he was just going to let go.
robby crumples in on himself, and he wants his mom, and he always wants his mom, because fuck his dad. he doesn't care if his dad wants him or not. he wants his mom to want him, to want him again. the fuzzy edges of her wanted him, once. she used to pet the back of his head after he had a nightmare, slow and steady, soothing him. his own hand raises to mirror it now, petting the back of his head, sniffling something wet and embarrasing, whimpering like a wounded animal. he wants his mom.
and it's a humiliation ritual, to struggle this hard, to be fucking bad at killing himself. it makes sense, really. he's failed at so many things, so many times, it's in his nature. his legs bounce again, his free hand clutching the bottle of pills, willing himself to just fucking do it.
robby doesn't want to die. call me if it gets dark.
and he fucking hates him for it, hates him for it, and he's dropping the pills and rummaging for his phone, breathing shaky with tears burning in his eyes as he stabs the contact, stabs the call. jack doesn't get a word out.
please just tell me not to do it. tell me you don't want me to do it. tell me you couldn't handle it if I did it. tell me you can't fucking live without me, jack. tell me you couldn't survive a goddamn day without me here. even if you're fucking lying. even if you're lying to me. please. jack, please. tell me not to do it.
Controversial opinion but people are too comfortable filming delivery drivers, food service, and retail workers. Man, if you're that confident you're in the right, just send your video to corporate instead of blasting their face on the internet. All the internet is going to do is hate on the worker. You have the resources at your disposal to make a genuine complaint and instead you're choosing to throw a temper tantrum online. Straight up immature.
I'll forever be confused about how some people will explain their own mistakes in the workplace as part of their human nature but then refuse to accept the same from workers in different industries.
