This is wild. I don’t know what would provoke someone to spread stuff about a random internet stranger that is objectively not true, but I would love to talk to this person about it.
I’ve had a very complicated relationship with my art for several years now. It’s been a long road to being okay with sharing my art for several reasons that I shouldn’t have to get into. This is a shame.
Anyway, here are some progress shots for every piece they ran through the AI detector.
Putting your roughs next to the finished pieces makes it pretty obvious that you're using AI to retouch your drawings.
The hair changes to the generic AI digital art style in all pieces, most noticeably in the first piece where you can see it struggles with the curls behind the ear in a way that doesn't make sense for that haircut, the bangs also change texture, (2) the statue in the background gaining a spotlight and a huge ear out of nowhere??
In the second piece you can see where it messed up and (1) turned the glare on the glasses into tears, (2) confuses the blood and shadows on the sleeve making nonsensical veiny purple markings, (3) blood on the leaves is completely gone (may have been stylistic choice, but suspicious considering it was present even in earliest sketch).
In the third piece (1) the deer shadow is gone (again may just have been a stylistic choice tbf), (2) the rendering of the blood changes drastically, and the AI gets confused and interprets the shadows in the hair as blood, (3) the hair actually melts into the skin above her nose and near the eyebrow in an unnatural way that is particular to AI generated images.
Alright, since we’re doing this again.
Do you understand what progress sketches look like? Do you understand that everybody’s sketches look different? Do you understand that things can change from point A to point B? Do you understand that I can change things from the sketch to the final render? Do you understand that a sketch is often not 1:1 to the final drawing? Do you understand that sometimes human error can make things look imperfect? I see a lot of error in each of these pieces as they’re old as hell now. In fact, a lot of the things you pointed out are stylistic choices I no longer choose to incorporate BECAUSE they looked “too AI” and there are a lot of things I have learned from in the past year.
But please, humor me. What could I possibly do to prove these are not AI generated other than a speedpaint? I’m asking this seriously because y’all love to say those are faked too nowadays. Sure, retroactively, I would’ve saved every speedpaint if I knew that every now and then, some rando on the internet was gonna crawl up from a hell pit and accuse me of using AI. I don’t use AI, I don’t condone the use of AI, and I will never use AI.
So to break it down for you, too:
1. My perspective skills were and are still kind of a mess. If I could go back and change the way I rendered the hair, I would because I don’t like it either! The curl behind the ear? Hate it now. But the bust details/spotlight were both added once I’d blocked out the rest of the colors.
2. The ‘glare’ was always meant to be tears. Again, I would render this differently now. I was learning what gradient maps did with this piece, and again, hate it now because it desaturated the blood. But what do you know, I know how to use gradient maps now. And I also removed the blood on the leaves because I didn’t want it there. Simple.
3. My skill level was not up to par for this piece. Again, bad use of gradient maps and adjusting colors via the color balancing tool on Procreate made the values weird and blend strangely in some places. I had a moment of self awareness and realized I didn’t know enough about lighting and the way that light realistically reacts to anything to actually make this piece work at all. This is one of my least favorite pieces in hindsight, I was still bumbling through learning how to paint realistic skin tones and hair and abusing color-adjusting burn and divide layers because I didn’t know what I was doing.
And another thing I would like y’all to answer: what do you gain from accusing people of using AI? Do you feel morally superior? Do you feel special? Do you want a pat on the back? Do you want a couple of notes? It’s exhausting to keep having to defend myself. If I did use AI, I wouldn’t be here on tumblr dot com where a lot of you weirdos make a sport out of fabricating drama and I would post my AI-generated garbage on deviantArt instead. But no, hate to tell you, this is organic, handmade garbage.
