Simple Crafts

This is a towel for my car seat. I have used grommets to make holes for my headrest posts to go through. I like to snack on long drives, so it is important that I have something to keep crumbs from getting in the seat. My car is new to me. I bought a used 2017 Nissan Note about 6 months ago. I treat it as best as I can. I want to keep my seats and interior looking great! I’m not done embroidering the “G” but I was hoping to finish before it came time to post this. Here, you can see my process. This is my first time doing embroidery, and I am doing it by hand. It is kinda ugly right now, but it will get better.

Use mineral oil to keep shells looking colorful. As shells dry out they look dull and not as colorful as they did on the beach. After I coat shells in mineral oil, I seal them with glossy mod podge. If you want to go the extra mile, you can spray them with glossy acrylic topcoat found in the spray paint section of craft and hardware stores.

This is the post that I have been waiting to share with yall!

While I was in Boston a couple months ago, I picked up two, huge clam shells. You could say it was the best day of my life! I had to detach them because the joints started to stink. I kept the pairs together and painted them using watercolors. Using watercolors allows you to choose the saturation of the color into the shells. I like the faded look. After that, I added hinges back where the joint used to be. Eventually, I would like to paint the hinges. If you want to know my process or procedures, let me know. This was a little more work than I anticipated, but it was worth it!

Post in honor of the First Day of Fall (Sept. 22). I made a crochet infinity scarf last Christmas! My sister took it with her to college! I’ll have to make another for me! Combination single and double crochets with some crazy stitching to make it an infinity scarf! This yarn is very chunky and meant for a baby blanket.

Crested Geckos like to climb, but they need vertical surfaces too! These are blue gecko ledges made from pool noodle floats. I think Mushu approves! I didn’t use a tape measure just marked on the pool float where to cut. Super easy to cut through the float material. I used a hand saw, and it took me two seconds.

This is a great craft for kids and people of all ages! I made this for my best friend who loves the beach! There is sand on two opposite corners and all of the shells have a purpose. She loves red shells. There is a set of red angle wing shells and a white dove shell found inside sand dollars. There is a boat shell also! No hot glue was used in this project, as I hate the strings it leaves.

Right now, one of my favorite places to go on vacation is struggling with Red Tide. It has killed tons of fish, and the state has declared a state of emergency. The most amazing little baby goat!

Hey yall! This is my adorable Crested Gecko! You’ve seen one post with him, there will be another coming soon! The second photo was soon after I got him as a baby! He is now a juvenile gecko weighing around 7 or 8 grams!

This is my desk chair from GoodWill. My original intentions were to remove all of the red fabric around the legs and the chair. However, I started taking it apart and found the legs to be particle board glued together, and the fabric was held on with some strange hardware. My backup plan was soaking the chair in Lysol then making a cover. I wrapped the legs in black lace. The fabric cover for the chair is removable and not permanently attached. The most difficult part of this project was sewing and fitting the fabric to the curved back. I also added darts to make the fabric lay nicer on the front of the chair. 

BEST DESK CHAIR EVER! This chair is so supportive. I can’t believe I had a dinky little $20 roller chair. Yes, I know it does not have arms, but I have never had arms on a desk chair

This is my handmade crested gecko hide. It is made from a coconut shell. I bought the entire coconut from Walmart as a fresh coconut in the produce section. I used a drill and a special drill bit to make the larger holes. I used a regular drill bit to carve out one of the small natural indentations at the top of the coconut. I used this to attach a string and hang the coconut from the wire roof of the enclosure, or it can be hung on a suction cup. After that, I used a flat screwdriver and a spoon to carve out the white coconut flesh. I let it dry for a couple days and smoothed out some of the sharp spots with a metal file. My baby crested gecko, Mushu, loves to sit on it and sleep inside. I have not seen any mold or mildew on my hide, but if that happens, I will make a new one!

I was pressing too hard with the screwdriver to remove some coconut flesh and I ended up cracking the coconut in one area. I used hot glue to reattach the piece that broke off.
