WHO GOT CAUGHT!?
I love that the highlight is on playing Flight Rising when everything else on this list is objectively funnier
what city slickers donāt understand is that weird noises always come from the forest and we just ignore it
if you go out to investigate and get got then that is on you, ignore it and go back to sleep like a rational person

reading letters from 1818 is wild
āitās that time of the year when I get colds for no apparent reason againā have some Clairitin hon
But also weāre not becoming allergic to everything nowadays like certain white moms fear. Allergies have always existed. They were just talked about differently
Like āoh clams always ~turn my stomach~ā. Or āwhat a pity he was taken from us at age 5ā
āWell we didnāt have all this fancy chronic illness stuff in the Olden Days, what did people do then??ā
They died, Ashleigh.Ā
This is a picture tracking bullet holes on Allied planes that encountered Nazi anti-aircraft fire in WW2.
At first, the military wanted to reinforce those areas, because obviously thatās where the ground crews observed the most damage on returning planes. Until Hungarian-born Jewish mathematician Abraham Wald pointed out that this was the damage on the planes that made it home, and the Allies should armor the areas where there are no dots at all, because those are the places where the planes wonāt survive when hit. This phenomenon is called survivorship bias, a logic error where you focus on things that survived when you should really be looking at things that didnāt.
We have higher rates of mental illness now? Maybe thatās because weāve stopped killing people for being āpossessedā or āwitches.ā Higher rate of allergies? Anaphylaxis kills, and does so really fast if you donāt know whatās happening. Higher claims of rape? Maybe victims are less afraid of coming forward. These problems were all happening before, but now weāve reinforced the medical and social structures needed to help these people survive. And we still have a long way to go.
This is one of my favorite anecdotes to show how clever rewording of statistics can make them say the opposite of what they mean:
Every time a state makes riding a motorcycle without a helmet illegal, the number of ER patients seriously injured in motorcycle accidents skyrockets. Every single time.
When you phrase it just right, it makes it sound like itās more dangerous to ride a motorcycle with a helmet than without one. Of course, the reality is that before those laws, those patients were going to the morgue, not the ER.
That also reminds me of a story from world war 1 where the soldiers started to take their helmets off because more soldiers would come back injured while wearing a helmet. Thatās because if they didnāt have a helmet they died.
I was high off my ass last night and had this dream where I was in this dense ass forest and sitting there was a tall woman. She was so tall I couldnāt see her face but she was wearing gold and I was like āuhā¦hi?ā And she said āI made you, do you know that?ā And I nodded and she was like āI hear your thoughts. Why do you hate my creation? Why do you try to destroy yourself? I made you perfect as you are. Please donāt break my heartā. Then she started crying and it flooded and I woke up with fucking heart palpitations like what does it Meanā¢ļø????
polar opposite of this post
inspiration struck and would not let me go until i drew this
This is really beautiful!!!
Oh fuck
if u ever think ur being overly petty and bitter just remember there once was a portuguese prince whose dad assassinated the woman he loved & when he became king he literally had her body exhumed & placed upon the throne as his queen & forced the portuguese nobility (aka most of his fatherās supporters) to pledge their alliance to her & kiss the hem of her clothes so that they wouldĀ ārender her when dead that homage which she had not received in her lifeā (x)
WHERE DO YOU PEOPLE EVEN GET THESE STORIES FROM???! DO YOU LIKE MAKE THEM UP OR SMTH??!
yeah⦠or iām portuguese and know my history
okay so like, this is one of my favorite parts of Portuguese history
and itās not because I have the same name as her or anything (even tho itās definitely a factor - because how cool is that?!? - and I kinda used - and sometimes still use, letās be real here - that as an excuse to call myself a queen because reASONS and shut up you would do the same)
but because that shit is like the stuff of legends and there is a whole myth surrounding their love story and the supposed place where she was killed - on the kingās orders near a fountain in the farm where she secretly lived with prince Pedro - because thereās a red stain there and itās said that when she was stabbed she cried for the kingās men to spare her children (if memory serves me right) and her tears landed on the fountain and turned red because she was terribly devastated and in pain thinking only of her children and how she was going to leave them without a mother when in the last moments of her lifeā¦
and also, you know that prince? before he did that thing when he exhumed her just to make her ~officially~ his queen - and have everyone who ever opposed to them and their love kiss her clothes to pay her homage and the respect she did not have in life?? like that shit savage bro - he did another thing, even more savage than that
he searched the whole country for the two dudes who stabbed her (there was a third but I think he died or smth), even went to spain because one of them fled the country after the king died, and he fucking RIPPED their hearts out (one from the front and one from the back, because InĆŖs was stabbed from both sides too) and tortured them in public, y'know, as you do
and that, my dear friends, is why the story of Pedro and InĆŖs is considered one of the best love stories on our country (and I would say the world too because that shit better than anything Shakespeare or Nicholas Sparks ever wrote and it was fucking real)
my boy Pedro didnāt fuck around when you fucked with his lady, and you lyinā if you say you donāt want you a freak like this - this Extraā¢, this ride or die, this savage - when it comes to love.
listen up, girls and boys, take note: follow their example and get yourselves a freak who would crown you queen after you were killed
TL;DR: basically Portuguese history has the best love story in the world and its the most savage thing you could imagine. go look it up - the story of Pedro and InĆŖs. *mic drop*

People thinking this is fake is genuinely why I insist there is more history outside BBC shows about the Tudors. Yall are missing on some prime telenovela shit here on the little iberian peninsula
@the-andy-world your country is interesting
Oh, yeah, it is a wild ride š
So, um, I watched this without sound first.Ā
And then I watched it with sound.
I have to say⦠thatās not what I expected.Ā Ā

A Two-Year-Oldās Solution to the Trolley Problem

Philosophy: Solved
Iāve never laughed so hardĀ
so is it a thing in (american) english to use ātexasā as a word for like, something thatās out of control or chaotic, or as like, ācrazyā? like āthat party last weekend was totally texas!ā
because that is a thing people say in norwegian and i just think itās important for americans to know that?
this is the best thing Iāve ever heard
iām sorry wHAT
This is like the time I found out that in IsraelĀ āMa po ze, Chicago?ā (What is this, CHICAGO?) is a saying for when people are acting unruly.Ā
in finland if something is far away or in an unknown place we can say that āse on huitsin nevadassaā (itās in nevada) you can also politely tell that youād wish someone to fuck off by wishing that theyād go to nevada
Itās good to know that other languages do the āpardon my Frenchā thing.

Northern Ballad by Andrey Vinogradov
@northern-storms
This song has vibes of drinking the night before battle with your friends, knowing that most of you wont make it
every person can feel freddieās presence in their souls when they sing MAMAAAAAA UUHHHH, I DONT WANNA DIE, I SOMETIMES I WISH IāVE NEVER BEEN BORN AT ALL with all the air in their lungs iām not joking
itās fucking crazy to think about the amount of people who have sung bohemian rhapsody? like itās such a unifying song, by nature of the fact that so many people know it. it holds so many good memories for me and other people. itās a song you scream in the car with your friends while you drive around your boring hometown, itās a song you drunkenly sing with your arm around your best friend, or a song you sing along to with strangers when itās on in public. itās bittersweet to think about freddieās legacy carrying on like that through his masterpiece. freddie carries on because heās a part of so many peopleās good memories and bohemian rhapsody is a huge part of that.
Reblog if you have sung bohemian rhapsody with your friends
every time i see this post iām reminded of the video of 65,000 people singing bohemian rhapsody in near-perfect harmony
like, what other song can make that claim?
Some of the highlights of that video include:
The crowd cheering after the first stanza when they realize what theyāre all doing
So many people audibly ādoing the guitar partsā⦠like ya do
The sheer number of voices joining the rediculous falsetto (thanks, Roger)
How they all start jumping at the ramp-up āso you think you can stomp meā
Hands up, hundreds, thousands deep for the final āoooooās and the last line to close the song
I actually cried listening to this
This is honestly one of the GREATEST EXAMPLES OF HUMAN UNITY IāVE SEEN IN A LOOOONG TIMEĀ
