grabbing like 80 percent of the lesbians I know by the shoulders and saying listen. listen. you have to stop categorizing everyone and everything into Women (Good) and Men (Bad). you might not think youβre doing it, but you are. itβs very clear from the ways in which you talk about trans men and bi women and your experience with gender and your difficulties in the dating scene that on some subconscious level, you think that moral purity is directly proportional to how much Man Stuff somebody has in their life. that contact with men and male-associated cultural byproducts will give you Boy Cooties. it wonβt. but I can tell you think it does, and so do all of your trans friends, and it makes us all uncomfortable. so cut it out
100%
& In the art history world this is so common. & So easy to find yourself believing things like men artists only objectify models while women artists are pure and good.
So many past professors & professionals Iβve worked with in the field have either had like full classes on this or said things like this in passing
Itβs so easy to fall for gender essentialism and that is a very slippery slope.
Also, listen yβall. Listen. Everyone. Everything mentioned in this post ties to racism as well.
Women/passive/good associations with lighter skin and man/aggressive/bad associations with darker skin are STILL unconsciously (sometimes consciously!) perpetuated TO THIS DAY.
Stop it.
