Hello, do you think that even someone without a degree can find a job in the book selling industry? Specifically in a bookstore? I do have a lot of experience with hospitality and customer service, but those are my only strengths. Would that count for something? (I do also have a passion for books, learning and reading, but I don’t expect that would be helpful at an interview?)

Hello! Most people I work with do not have degrees! Like 60% of the staff I work with are high school or college age kids. Ultimately a bookstore is a retail job & customer service experience will serve you better than anything else!! If you like to read and can recommend things it’s definitely a plus but I’ve never based my hiring decisions on if someone has a degree or not

#I can obviously only speak for my indie but like me having a degree did not factor into my getting hired at all and I became manager #bc of a series of silly and stupid situations lol it fell into my lap in many ways
