Canada Post has released a new series of stamps to celebrate Pride Month and Canada’s LGBTQ2S+ history. The new issue of Places of Pride features four illustrated postage stamps commemorating places and events from four cities across Canada that are pivotal to the country’s queer history.

Yesterday I rec’d @natalieironside ‘s book The Last Girl Scout. If you haven’t seen that yet, go check it out!

If you’ve read The Last Girl Scout, Lead & Roses will contain many familiar folks, as well as a few new ones. It’s full of nice little tidbits that occur before or after the narrative of TLGS. But, if you haven’t read that yet, that’s okay too! The five short stories collected into Lead and Roses are spread across the post-apocalypse landscape, featuring everything from horror to queer slice-of-life.

That said, this did serve as a nice sort of epilogue for me after finishing The Last Girl Scout. There are five thematically arranged shorts: Stories, The Last American, The White Goddess, Werewolf, and That’s a Christmas to Me. The Last American and Werewolf were especially interesting reads, as they deal mainly with perspectives of folks opposite those we see in TLGS.

Stories is a wonderful story about two women building a life and community together. The White Goddess has scientists stumbling onto trouble when they go on a research trip. There's really just a little bit of everything. That’s a Christmas to Me was wonderful and heartwarming to read, especially because I read it around the winter holidays.

If you read The Last Girl Scout first, Lead and Roses serves as a cool way to expand the information we have about the world, and serves as a nice farewell to familiar characters. (I don't know about y'all, but I always have a hard time moving on to other things after falling in love with characters/stories) And if you haven't read Natalie's debut novel first, then what you're getting instead is a sampler of absolutely amazing post-apocalyptic fiction across a span of genres, and glimpses at the truly interesting world Natalie has made. There's no wrong way to go here, so definitely go check it out, along with Natalie's other writing!

One time I gave a girl a reading that was oddly focused, clearly saying someone she trusted was going to betray her. She told me I was wrong.

*shrug* No big deal, this is all for fun. Like I told everyone.

About a week later she asked me to do a reading again. I laid out the card spread and almost every card from the first reading was there again. She scooped them up and handed them back to me, saying she didn't want to hear it again because it was wrong.

My entry was the Spite Ensemble I've been working on. I titled it "In Memory of Black Suffragettes".

The script I had for the moderator to read as I modeled:

On August 19, 1920, the 19th Amendment was ratified, stating “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.”

That should have meant that ALL women had the right to vote, but in reality, Black women, who had long been part of the suffrage movement, and Indigenous women, who inspired it, were once again left behind by their white peers.

Even now, protections once offered by enforcement of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 have been rolled back and we are hurtling backwards to a time where literacy tests and poll taxes kept all but “respectable” people from casting their ballots.

This ensemble was made with turn of the century patterns and an Ankara print the style of would have been available at the time. White was chosen to emulate the outfits worn by Suffragettes of all backgrounds.

After literal hours of deliberation the judges made their decision: I was named Best in Class Journeyman for Presentation and Best in Class _*Master*_ for Workmanship! Usually you have to win 3 awards as Journeyman to move up to Master

And I won Second for Presentation and Best in Class for Workmanship!

4) chicken dance - no, im not joking. do the chicken dance and all enemies will watch and be stunned because wtf. if octavia or zephyr are in range, they'll join in. it restores health. use with his 3 for maximum chaos

passive - ocassionally lays an egg that will sprout legs and blow up when it runs at an enemy. if theres no enemies theyll just follow you until there is (and they make little noises)

he has a sawed off shotty called henrietta. i think he named it after his third wife
