When I hear "tumblr sexyman," I think of Cecil Night Vale being constantly depicted as a skinny white man instead of literally anything else. I think of the background character white men who get elevated over protagonists that are women, people of color, or otherwise not the white man power fantasy.

Oncelercest, because if there aren't two skinny white men to ship, tumblr fandom will start shipping the skinny white man with himself.

Bill Cipher inexplicably being fanon'd as a white twink despite being a fucking triangle.

Everyone fawning over Marvel Loki while shoving every woman and Black person in the MCU aside.

The way nearly every single character in Hazbin Hotel has the same "tall and skinny" body type, along with all the criticisms Black audience members have made about the issues with Alastor's design.

Sans has no canon human skintone to my knowledge. He is a skeleton and does not have skin. But the Undertale fandom is famous for its long list of detailed AUs and character reinterpretations. So...when was the last time you saw a Black depiction of Sans? Sans may be short and squat, and therefore not the tall and skinny sexyman archetype, but when the fandom reinterprets him as a living human man instead of a skeleton, is he commonly depicted as a man of color? Or is he typically a white man? Do you think Sans would have reached the same popularity if he was canonically a Black character?

"Tumblr sexyman," when I first saw the term rise in popularity over a decade ago, was very specifically a criticism of tumblr's whiteness. It was a critique of the intersection of racism, misogyny, and fatphobia within fandom.

Yes, language evolves. I am not a prescriptivist, and I fully agree that prescriptivism is inherently racist and classist.

But, y'all, when Black bloggers are getting run off this site in droves, Black art still gets treated as "niche" or even "divisive"...I just don't think we should be so quick to declare that "we're better now." Tumblr is still white as fuck. Popular ships are still white as fuck. Black bloggers are still getting harassed en masse. Fandom is white as hell and often racist, because racism has not magically disappeared.

This is especially frustrating because the only reason we know the wind speed is because NOAA's Hurricane Hunters literally fly into the hurricane and collect vital data. They fly in and out of the storm over and over in 8 hour shifts.

This brave team flies two identical Lockheed P3s called Kermit and Miss Piggy.

You can see the dangling ornaments in the videos to determine which plane they are in.

And when I say they fly into the hurricane, I mean they fly *into* the hurricane.

As you may notice, this flight was in Kermit.

So the next time you see live data about a hurricane's wind speed and pressure, just remember how that was collected and don't be a giant turd about it.

And please vote because conservatives want to kill NOAA.

A little instrument called a dropsonde.

This is what one looks like (from Wikimedia commons). We fly into the (eye!!! Often to the eye iirc!) hurricanes, shove that in and down a tube into the hurricane, often 10+ times and then gtfo of the hurricane when enough data is gathered.

We do this with regular weather too, but in the form of regular balloons and radiosondes (technically radiowsondes because of the measurements they take, iirc), and uh, usually we do some across the entire country.

Right now, we are still missing several sites because of funding and staffing cuts Trump has done. And it’s been long enough that I think (and could be wrong but…) the models are starting to show that lack of data at least slightly. Which is honestly what a lot of folks were expecting and worried about with the major loss of those data sites.

Private industry cannot remotely do what NOAA and the NWS do. They genuinely cannot scale to the extent of what NOAA covers and also…. They SHOULDNT be. This shit isn’t a profit vector, it’s literally to help keep everyone safe and aware of what the weather is doing!!!

So it all started with this post, after which a lot of people asked me, what does it say on the cup? Now the answer is "The Power of Harrow Compels Thee" which happens to be my favorite Warframe achievement (and that I had to farm for actively because I had JUST dunked 400 something Harrow chassis barely two days before this dropped in the game, tragic) and I thought hey, how about I make it into an actual cup? Which I DID. What's in the cup, is it coffee? it's wine Who knows!

And I wanted a gothic calligraphy font BUT I COULDN'T FIND ANY I LIKED so I did it myself and digitized it because I am extra ✨™

Bonus, because I discovered that this was an option on the store where I made the cup, I made wine bottle stickers (they had the option to just customize a bottle but I didn't trust the quality of their wines) it's not French but I promise you it's good. Lyon enjoyers will appreciate this 😂
