Everyone needs to stop saying death of the author when what they mean is separating the art from the artist. Like FR stop it.
I know it's mainly just ignorance of what the term means but I do wonder if this happens in part bcos 'death of the author' sounds so dramatic like oh this author is dead to me, I don't care about them anymore. Whereas 'separating the art from the artist' is a lot more neutral and well. In CERTAIN CASES it is kind of immediately apparent that you cannot.
TO REITERATE:
Death of the Author is a term coined by Roland Barthes for his essay of the same name in 1967.
In brief: death of the author is the concept that analysis of a work of art should not be focused on the artist's intent; the artist's intended reading of their own work is just A reading and no more valid than anyone else's.
A good straightforward example of this in practice is the response to Andy Weir and Project Hail Mary. Weir is adamant that his work contains no politics but I would say that PHM is pretty clearly a story about climate change.
You can apply death of the author to any work of fiction and it has nothing to do with whether the author is a good or bad person.

I get really frustrated with the people who treat hEDS as the "causes everything disorder" because it really doesn't and this mentality leads to other diagnoses being missed.
hEDS itself actually has a very narrow range of symptoms. the majority of the symptoms people ascribe to hEDS are either entirely unconnected or come from hEDS comorbidities (which are not particularly well understood- we know they're there but we don't have a good grasp on why they're there)
hEDS does not cause allergic reactions, MCAS does. many people with hEDS have MCAS but not all people with hEDS have MCAS and not all people with MCAS have hEDS.
hEDS symptoms primarily have to do with direct impact on collagen causing things like joint instability and prolapses. hEDS comorbidities cover a broader range but even then people ascribe some conditions to hEDS without a whole lot of research backing it up.
it's more harmful than just pedantics. sometimes people miss more dangerous disorders like lupus because "well, hEDS can cause inflammation from joint damage and arthritis from repeat injuries." this way of thinking has likely killed people.
so, no, hEDS does not cause "everything." hEDS has a lot of comorbidities that still don't cover "everything." if your symptom isn't neatly explained by a well respected connection to hEDS or a comorbidity then seek medical advice about it because something else may be going on.
in response to people saying things like "men aren't allowed to cry in public, unlike women" other people will then say things like "women are penalized, not rewarded, for public displays of emotionβthe fact that women are presumed to be overly emotional & irrational is misogyny, not a privilege"
which is often true but like, it's contextual innit. lest we discount the phenomenon of White Woman Tears
I've recently had white women in professional contexts tell me that they were quote "hurt" and "gutted" by what amounted to very minor professional faux pas on my part. I remember reading a white woman academic's essay on Jane Eyre that began with recounting her emotional upset upon having Jane Eyre "taken away from her" by postcolonial / anti-racist scholarship. white women's emotions do have currency in personal and professional spaces in selective contexts, i.e. when wielded against people of colour π€·π½ββοΈ

i don't think I say it enough these days but the platypus is unquestionably the best animal on earth. no nipples. lays eggs. what has been argued to be the single most painful venemous sting in existence (inb4 the pain index guy didn't test it because 1. he was only doing bugs and 2. the pain has been known to last for years). no stomach, don't need it. delete those genes. use the space for five pairs of sex chromosomes that don't work like the sex chromosomes of literally any other living thing and maybe don't even determine their sex. ability to sense electricity. made scientists angry and confused and excited and have continued doing so to this day. excellent signals for the health of a water ecosystem. cute as FUCK
