liking a ship but disliking the distinct set of stock fanon that they have been assigned is like one of those punishments dante came up with when he wrote the worldbuilding for hell in inferno
I'm an absolute sucker for a weird but thoroughly considered genre pastiche, and, no really, Warframe Tau took everything from the Gritty 20th-Century Noir genre bible:
Grumpy detective with a vice (smoking) and a fatalistic but unflappable inner monologue (voiced by frequently typecasted gunslinger Matt Mercer)
Constant black rain that just makes everything Worse
Drugs and violence devastating the homeless underclass
Helpful urchins surviving as best they can in the lowest streets
Doing dirty favors for shady dock managers to advance a hidden grey agenda involving getting into a mob boss's inner circle to collect information and evidence
Brass-knuckle brawling, obscenely large revolvers, people being thrown out of plate-glass windows
Driving through busy city intersections loaded with glowing enticements to smooth over the suffering
Stratified decadent high society flush with gambling, dancing, and singing
The city's most popular singer/dancer knows the detective on sight, implying either an at-arms-length relationship or frequent patronization, a symbol of beauty for whom the doom timer is no doubt ticking
Atmosphere of lies and betrayal tragically far past the point of ever being healed in one lifetime
Tense negotiations over a card game with a dangerous mover and shaker
My compliments to DE's chefs and their diligent cooking.
you have permission to pick that 2 year old "abandoned" project back up. it's not mad at you for setting it aside. and maybe time and distance have helped ease or erase the things that made you put it down in the first place.
I have a million hobbies and a million projects. The amount of times I have either accidentally or intentionally dropped a project is countless
Sometimes it’s because I lose passion for it, other times it’s because I know my skills at the moment will not allow me to finish this properly, and sometimes life just gets busy
The nice thing about unpaid hobbies is that it is quite literally up to you when you do them. There is no rush and no deadline, just enjoyment

reading this deposition that just got dropped where someone sued musk and ohhhh my god it is this funniest thing ever . i can see why his lawyer tried to keep this confidential . they’re both maybe the biggest idiots . this is like ace attorney
genuinely first two pages he says that he thinks ben’s lawyer is the one who is actually suing him and admits he has no clue what the lawsuit is about .
I don't think Mark can ever top "INDEED, MR. JONES, INDEED" and "AND THAT IS HOW I KNOW YOU LIED TO ME" from the first Sandy Hook trial in Texas (not to be confused with Chris Mattei, the attorney in the Connecticut trial), but this part
MR. SPIRO: Do you give these lectures at all of your depositions?
MR. BANKSTON: I do, and you can watch them.
is ESPECIALLY hilarious to me having listened to multiple depositions Mark has had to take in the Sandy Hook case, where he has needed to lecture EVERY. SINGLE. ATTORNEY. at some point in the case about how they're violating Texas Rule XYZ, because they all, to a one, did something seriously ethically questionable during the deposition.
like, YOU CAN WATCH/LISTEN TO HIS DEPOS. HE DOES HAVE TO GIVE THOSE LECTURES EVERY TIME. IT'S NOT EVEN A JOKE.

Summary:
A nightmare in flesh. The Hex's grand finale… but it doesn't go well. Three, thirty, three-hundred, just how many loops had it been now?
How many times did he have to watch her die?
This was maybe the third, thirtieth, three-hundredth loop now, paranoia about a body and soul invading traveller had… backfired, spectacularly, again.
Arthur staggered but half a step into the heart of the reactor, radiation battering and seeping into his mutated flesh and bone - it was a poisoned heatwave he was forced to swallow. He braced whilst he shot whatever Techrot shambled its way toward him with their gargling, stuttered voices, and he was - not content - but accepting of the fact that he could die here again. Just one more loop, one more death, one more failure, one more year of waiting to die.
Chorus screams split the rancid air from his flank, and his stomach churned because he knew exactly who had broken orders.
"Stay topside, be a medic, help the civvies."
He glanced behind him to see a blur of white and viridian, her mouth closing and wings wide as they beat against the fetid air. Stupid woman, he thought - not caring about the fact he had apparently volunteered himself to be her meat-shield with the way he stood in front of her. Her gaze was a balm to his soul, and as much as he wanted to hate it - he needed to see her alive, because his comms were dead, and the only proof anyone survived was her.
"I'm sorry I'm disobeying orders, Lieutenant," she snapped, ere continuing; "Going in alone was-"
"A stupid choice," he finished for her. Stupid woman, reassuring him to the point of near tears - her wings outstretched and hands glittering. What use was an angel so close to hell? His face scrunched in a flinch when she used his title, softening for a spell only to watch her pale feathers catch the diseased crimson light before it was drowned by the glow of her summons.
The Ophanim sang in such a harmony that gave him the vaguest semblance of hope, drifted outward in obedient emerald halos whilst their mechanical hymns swelled around her. "This isn't a drill, Angel," he coughed, snapping his eye to hers. "Comms are silent. Amir- Aoi."
A pause followed.
Then the wail and gouging scrapes in metal came.
A lashing trinity of tails cracked, and gaunt Techrot legs skittered across the surface of the bomb as it yowled, tilting a diamond-shaped head in jittering turns, Angel froze. Wings locked at their full span, her fingertips guttering for a moment as she caught whatever breath she could in the noxious chamber - she'd not done that since she saw what a roadside bomb did to her Lieutenant's friend - what it did to the man that laughed, once. A freckled nose scrunched ere she screamed herself upward. A gentle well of green coiled beneath Arthur's feet that cooled the fallout under his skin, one eye flicking to the soft circles that made it all bearable. For one brief, crippling second, she was perhaps untouchable and all the monsters in the room were a witness to her glory. Angel, his idiotic half-saint, half war-thing that was haloed in emerald and ochre, casting judgements unto the weary beasts and murmur below.
The Babau convulsed under such joined attacks - a beautiful display of a seraph and her zealot purging what was unworthy. It was fine. Good. Hope that this loop had something triumphant in its end, they gave their lives over, and over, and over to stop this.
A stutter.
A fracture into a dozen overlapping voices, each one caught in a failing transmission that failed to pass through her throat. Her midsection bloomed vermilion and black, before she was tossed at the control room viewport with a macabre snap. The cries wheezed in her sternum whilst her hands scrambled at her bleeding gut. It skittered over to her - why did the Techrot revel in this, in dismantling her wings piece by piece, peeling them from her spine with a wet and methodical patience? She screamed until it cracked the glass behind her, enough until her eyes burned malachite in their sockets, enough to make the beast disaggregate at its seams and take the sound with it.
He stumbled, choking on his words however broken they were.
"Perse-" The name was swallowed down. Gone. He lurched toward her like she was the only person he had to see live through this - legs buckled, a palm cracked against the window to keep himself from going down entirely. He lugged her upright by whatever he could reach, her eyes were wet and had almost dimmed entire, just left a bluish green - human - without a semblance of her jade light behind them. Each inhale rattled like old coins, heaving with the effort of a breath that kept nearly not arriving.
She stammered his name, face scrunching and softening whilst she trembled. It rang in his ears, he didn't want to hear it.
"Don' fall… asleep." He ebbed in turn, smoothing her wing from her face with the last of his gentleness.
"Lieuten-Lieu-Lieutenant"
"Keep talk- keep talking."
"Arth-Arthur."
"'m here, Angel."
Coward. Call her name, you did in the army, you did in the ICA before you called her Angel. You've said it before, ten-thousand times in your head and under your breath across maybe ten-thousand fucking loops and you can't say it when it's the only thing left to give her. Coward.
The word wasn't a kind thing, it came the way the radiation had - merciless.
You're going to watch her die again. You're going to watch her die and you will not even give her name back.
Porcelain fingers found his hand and closed around his digits with a strength that was dying quicker than she was. Bruise edged lips parted as her body convulsed… and she smiled. Not her usual one, the cute one that had her feathers fluffed with an upturn to her lips that spread soft and contagious, it was the smile of a punchline gained a second after everyone else and found it funny regardless. She tried to shape the word. He already knew what it was.
"Shut…" He wheezed "Not- not allowed."
She trembled in turn, staring at him. as his forehead knocked into hers.
ohhh my god I just fact-checked, Nolan actually DID cut the "Nobody" scene from his Odyssey movie. Mfer that is like cutting the Father reveal from Star Wars. Let me speak in a language you understand this is like not dressing Batman up in his suit. "It was not possible to work it in" the TikTok musical with a budget of $4 and a scratched Hamilton CD managed to work it in in SONG form, step up your FUCKING GAME
Back at it again with some realistic takes on the Hex actually sitting around playing D&D F&F:
-You would think Aoi would be the Dice Goblin. But no, it's Quincy getting his newest collection. Scavenging an old game shop for more goods.
-Lettie's Rats are getting enrichment time by being 4-D figurines for combat. Something feels more real when your character dies and Lettie's having to bribe Vaquero to stop chewing on them.
-Arthur is never going to admit this but he had a phase while he was still in school where he watched a group of older boys play F&F. The group discovers this when Arthur is the one to point out a tricky game mechanic and not Amir.
-Aoi is ridiculously good at the emotional roleplay. Like getting you crying before you realize it good. She has been jokingly asked to make more emotionally dense characters from here on out.
-Eleanor is the reason in the game they have nearly been TPK'd several times. She keeps seducing the mayor's wife or the Queen of every town they enter.
-Amir is such a nervous DM at first. But he evolves into the "Please can we just try and not get murdered for five minutes" DM very quickly. Not a rules lawyer by any stretch, more of a rule of cool and natural consequences DM.

Out of spite for the MULTIPLE companies actively trying to do away with physical media, I'm using a USB dvd player to rip a bunch of my personal CDs to my PC for safekeeping and funsies... and check the old unlabeled CDs that got unearthed as part of organizing the sound booth at my university.
(Long-winded story for no reason lol)
So naturally I started with a three-disc album of Wagner's Tristan Und Isolde, published by Philips in 1992. Which is 1) labeled clearly and 2) obviously not sound effects, so it's definitely not the top priority in the stack of mystery discs I promised to check over the summer.
But opera makes me happy so it goes first!
Which.
Uh.
Apparently this CD set in particular was borrowed from my local library system at some point (?) and never returned.
Still has the labels on it.
I will be informing my professor-- not because I'm snitching on the Opera Thief, but because they will find this *hilarious* after spending SO MUCH TIME impressing on us the importance of Not Stealing Sounds Because Copyright. Betcha didn't think about THIS version, didja?!
Which... Technically you can play whatever music you want to during the pre-show and after the show is over. It's considered fair game for the most part because technically that's not what tickets are being bought to see/hear. It gets a little nebulous sometimes, but you're USUALLY fine.
However.
The entirety of Tristan Und Isolde? As pre/post show music? Little much. Little more likely to have been used as underscoring.
"But Goblin," you might say, "isn't that entire thing in the public domain? You can use public domain music for your shows, right? This counts!"
... Yes? Kind of? The opera itself: Yes, in the public domain, it came out when people still gave their kids heroin cough drops. This specific RECORDING of the opera, as performed live at the Bayreuth Festival of 1966? Hahahaha noooooo. No, this recording is very much *not* public domain or fair use or any other type of Not A Legal Issue To Use for a Paid Performance.
Which means this CD set features double the Rights & Usage Crimes of your average Opera!
Oh no... This means we... We can't use it at school... Whateeeeeever shall I dooooooo...
new idea: every time an architect has to design a public space/building, a minimum of 2 physically disabled people must be at their side to hit them with sticks and rocks until they add proper accessibility features
