the thing is, stephen king is generally pretty good at creating complex, well-rounded characters, which makes it all the more jarring when one of those characters abruptly comes out with what i'll term a "kingism". i don't know how best to define a kingism other than "you'll know it when you see it". it's the voice of the author intruding on the voice of the character, and in this case the voice of the author has a bad sense of humour and is ravenously, inexplicably horny

The "Breath of the Wild"ification of games nowadays (particularly first party Nintendo games) is legitimately one of the most frustrating trends in all of gaming imo No, I don't want my Metroid game to have shrines in a big wasteland with nothing in it to be more like BOTW. No, I don't want an open world Mario Kart if the actual track design is going to suffer because of it. And certainly no, I don't want games that would work fine if they were linear (or even just open zone instead) being open world for no particular reason. Legitimately it is hard to play any game that comes out these days because everything must be a giant open world with small mini challenges on the map because "Well Breath of the Wild did it! We can too!" No! Stop it! Genuinely please stop! I'm tired of every game being open world! Limitations on what the player can do or where they can go can be a good thing! I will take cohesive level design over massive worlds that have nothing to do in them!

What is up with lefty types pushing to learn practical skills (sewing/gardening/etc whatever) as like "you'll need to know this after The Revolution:tm:" and not, like, "this is a useful skill to help yourself & others in your communities Right Now". I love how varied and universally weird the circumstances for making lifelong friendships are. Here's this guy I accidentally messaged once and I could not imagine my life without them now. Here's this girl I was so scared of when I met her, I would kill for her and remind her to rest on the regular. Here's this other guy we have so much in common we used to joke we were the same person in different timelines. It took us years to meet in person and I attended his wedding. There are also people who entered my life in absolutely unremarkable ways but changed it forever for the better. It's wonderful how easy it is to find people to love.
