The Game's Afoot!

I saw this news on May 27th (Vincent Price's birthday of all days!) and had to share it right away for this week's update! Added to the Contemporary Cast & Crew page, I added information about The Great Mouse Detective 40th Anniversary Panel at the LightBox Expo in Pasadena, CA (October 23 - 25, 2026). Moderated by Nick Manfredi, special guests expected to be there are two of the film's directors, John Musker and Ron Clements. Nick is sharing the info at Facebook and here at Instagram. Another amusing thing added this week was a random find at YT. Added to Scenes, this was Disney Sunday Movie "Tiger Town" Season 31 Ep 12b or the 'Eisner Intro' of the Disney Sunday Movie for "Tiger Town" (1986). Mickey and Goofy are wearing baseball outfits as they play a game of catch while Michael Eisner walks by with Basil and Ratigan in the background. Michael walks over to Mickey and Goofy as well as talk about the movie. Unfortunately, Basil and Ratigan walk away and are never seen again as it was just a quick cameo of them. Since that happened, I made a GIF of their brief appearance and added it to GIFs! 😁

This week I updated a just-for-fun addition to the Scenes section of Audio & Video Galleries with my video: "Basil of Baker Street // Inspector Roger Crimmins Introduction (Subtitles)." My family and I recently watched the 1985 Murder, She Wrote episode, "Sing a Song of Murder" (S02E05), knowing Inspector Roger Crimmins was played by Barrie Ingham. His very first scene is of him inside his New Scotland Yard office playing darts. 🎯 In the Disney film, The Great Mouse Detective, when Basil first appears, he nonchalantly tosses a dart into the bull's eye! I just thought it was a cool connection to both characters! 😁

These are by having sheer luck of getting the exact character you want. That happened to me once with the Heroes vs. Villains blind bag in 2012. I was at Disneyland with my family in the Astro Blasters gift shop. I bought a bunch of bags and the very first pin I pulled out was none other than Basil! 😁

I just realized I did an update to Professional Artists last week with an artist last name of Smith. Well, I couldn't help but share another master artist with the same last name for this week! Kids Book Illustrator Brad Smith shared an incredible rendition of Basil of Baker Street, and it is fantastic! I highly recommend checking out his Instagram, too!

This week I came across some more awesome and impressive artworks featuring Basil and Professor Ratigan from artist Peter Smith. I already have been showcasing two of his works at the Professional Artists page, so these are three more I came across, adding a current total of five brilliant artworks. For this week's update, I went to Cels and added some images found at IMDb including one featuring the Lady Mouse visiting Basil and Dawson. The cel is rare because it's uncut. More and more I'm seeing different designs or simple one-character on T-shirts for this film, and I came across another basic T-shirt with Basil from Amazon. Added to the Apparel section of Merchandise, it's simply called Disney The Great Mouse Detective Basil of Baker Street T-Shirt with Basil making a nice, welcoming pose surrounded by footprints, as if he stopped in the middle of investigating to say, "It's elementary!" or something like that. Very cool, check it out if interested!

For this National Day, I made a GIF called The Henry Mancini Montage and added it to the Animation GIFs page. It's a lot of frames because I wanted to include the moment when Vincent Price was performing "Goodbye So Soon" with Mancini looking on. To be in the room and watching an incredible legend at work would be a dream come true. I'm speaking, of course, about Vincent AND Henry! 😁

I know this update is not really related to TGMD, but since Barrie will forever be known for his voice work of Basil of Baker Street, I had to share this clip for World Theatre Day 🎭 (March 27th). Added to the Scenes page, this is a clip of Barrie Ingham (as Sir Danvers Carew) and Christiane Noll (as Emma Carew) performing "Letting Go" in the Broadway production of "Jekyll & Hyde: The Musical." There was a time I found and watched the entire show, enjoying it quite a bit! I can't find it anymore, only in short clips like this one. Anyway, thank you for visiting! 😁

Today is Friday the 13th, a favorite day for a villain, and March 13th is also National Jewel Day. I never made a GIF of Professor Ratigan prancing around his stash of stolen jewels, so today felt the most appropriate! Added to the Animation GIFs page, this is when the Napoleon of Crime is having a good time while singing "The World's Greatest Criminal Mind." It's Friday the 13th 🔪💀 and National Jewel 💎 Day. This GIF was meant to exist and be shared on this day! 😆

This is a couple of months early, but hey, fans have been celebrating since the first of January! Since this year is the 40th anniversary of the film, I have already seen some impressive artwork, memes, and now, this trailer. Titled The Great Mouse Detective “Misfortune” Fan-Made 40th Anniversary Trailer, it was created by Ronald Carter at The Reel Trailer Editor. February 24th was National Trading Card Day, so I'm only a few days late of sharing what I found. Added to Merchandise page 2, this is a set of rare trading cards that I've seen before from Disney Topps by artist Bobby Timony, but now you can select a whole variety of characters. From eBay seller MOONLIGHTSTARS, they're offering any of them as a Buy it Now. If interested, check them out!

One from the vaults! For National Love Your Pet Day 🐶 (February 20th), I came across an old art piece I drew back in 2010 and then digitally colored in CorelDRAW Photo Paint 8. Basil was ready to go out on another case when he sees Toby, his canine companion, is having an off day. The image is in my Gallery section of deviantART, so I decided to share a link to the Off-Site section of the Fan Art page for today. In my concept, Basil tries to give Toby a cheese crumpet to cheer him up and I drew it like how the cheese crumpets looked in the film, shaped like a muffin. So, look at that, February 20th is also National Muffin Day! 😆

This was a lovely find plus I recognized the name of the artist: Scott Beaderstadt! 😁 I've showcased his artwork before, so here is a new one to share: Vintage Disney The Great Mouse Art Print Picture. This image depicts Basil examining a clue with his magnifying glass with Dr Dawson and Olivia Flaversham looking on.
