PROLOGUE: Of Ink And Blood
A long, long time ago, there once existed beings far beyond comprehension — beings that had been said to have emerged from a dark, formless void, and had roamed the universe for thousands of years.
Wanting to share their fruitful prosperity with others, these mythical beings — fittingly dubbed as “The Creators” — combined their powers to create a world which would flourish with life.
Using their own blood — or Ichor — as the base, The Creators brought about the very first “toon”. “The Original.” They shaped the toon to their own will, until he was perfect. With no need to eat, sleep, the ability to feel pain, or die. And that toon became the template for the others to come.
With the small but growing population, The Creators granted the toons one more ability to facilitate their existence — that which had been once known as “Toon Physics”. From their bodies being able to stretch to impossible lengths, being able to manifest objects from hammer space, and even being able to reverse gravity itself if they so wished.
The abilities evolved with time, and so did the toons relationship with The Creators, whom had even formed personal connections with a selected few. Ever since its creation, harmony and bliss was all that was —and had been — ever known in Toon World.
… But nothing this good ever lasts forever.
Enter “The Overlords” — evil entities made up from Corrupted Ichor. Unlike The Creators, they themselves could not create life. However, nothing stopped them from corrupting it. And much like The Creators, they too infiltrated themselves to live amongst the toons and began to tempt them with sinful deceptions. The toons, once innocent and pure, slowly became more… complex; no longer was one trait their defined characteristic.
Unbeknownst to them, Evil had taken root deep within their core.
Wanting to protect their toons, a violent war soon broke out between The Creators and The Overlords. The once bright blue skies turned a dull gray, and the Cosmos itself seemed to furiously fight back against the seemingly never ending chaos.
No one could’ve predicted what occurred next.
It began to rain. But this was no normal rain — it was The Ichor, both the good and the bad. The Creators and The Overlords alike bled from their wounds right above Toon World, with the drops of their blood combining together into puddles in the ground.
But then… those puddles began to bubble. They bubbled, then shifted, then transformed.
“Blotlings”. They rose from the puddles of tainted Ichor and began mercilessly attacking anything that moved or breathed.
The toons tried desperately to defend themselves with the abilities they had been given by The Creators… only to find that they couldn’t. And for the very first time since their existence, they felt hunger, exhaustion, the ability to feel pain…
At least, it was the closest thing to death they had ever experienced before. Once eaten to the core by The Blotlings, what remained of the toon would too begin to bubble, then shift and then transform into… something else.
No longer immortal and without any way to defend themselves, the toons did the only thing they could — they ran. Ran as fast as their legs would take them in search of refuge, hoping and praying that The Creators would come and save them from their fate.
Three days was all the time The Blotlings needed to turn Toon World into "The Wasteland". Many sections of the world, once thriving and bright, now were in complete disarray and swallowed by the darkness. All were destroyed... except for one; ToonTown.
As the largest settlement in all of Toon World, already equipped with reinforced impenetrable walls that reached well over twenty feet tall, Flippy — ToonTown’s then Mayor — opened the gates to all the survivors far and wide, unaware that this action would mend one problem, but immediately replace it with another.
The refugees overcrowded the city, with most having to live in a makeshift camp in the middle of town for a while as the officials scrambled to figure out what to do. Flippy, overwhelmed and completely lost as to what to do, eventually went to Mickey — the former Mayor of ToonTown — and begged for his help.
Mickey, realizing the greater problems at hand, forced down his own and agreed to step back into his role as Mayor... even if he was in no condition to do so.
And so, the years passed, with ToonTown having transformed into a gilded prison for all those fortunate enough to have survived — though many wished they hadn’t, seeing how much things had changed since way back when.
… unbeknownst to them though, the solution to their problems just so happened to live amongst them too.
But things are never that easy. Are they?
