the place I work at remodeled these split gendered restrooms into âinclusive restroomsâ and never told us what they meant while construction was ongoing. I need you to know every atom of potential criticism or whining that couldâve happened disappeared when people found out this meant we got 10 fully separate private bathrooms with sinks inside. Iâve not heard a single person crack a joke about the inclusive signage. this is the world TERFs are trying to steal from you
has anybody else noticed that the classic sci fi novel Donât Create The Torment Nexus features a Torment Nexus? thatâs pretty problematic of the author

i love that maned wolf pups also do the canine thing where they feet too big for their got damn they, but because they also have the long ass legs they end up looking way more normally proportioned than the adults. like this:
like those are regular wolf proportions
what doesnt kill you is still valuable data points for a graph im working on titled "how to kill you"
why do men have this eternal fear of being used for money they donât have lol

Goddamit i hate this fucking post. I hate it because obviously if âtwelveâ followed the same pattern as the other teen numbers it wouldnât be âtwoteenâ it would be âseconteenâ. Think about it. Itâs not âthreeteenâ itâs âthirteenâ as in âthirdâ. Itâs not âfiveteenâ itâs âfifteenâ as in fifth. So with that in mind, you count âfirst, second, third, fourth, fifth,â and so on, so eleven would be âfirsteenâ and twelve would be âsecondteenâ or âseconteenâ. âFirsteen, seconteen, thirteen, fourteen, fifteenâŚ.â It just drives me absolutely mad everytime i see this post that this obvious pattern was overlooked and i cant hold in my rage anymore.
bro i LOVE indigenous fusion music i love it when indigenous people take traditional practices and language and apply them in new cool ways i love the slow decay and decolonisation of the modern music industry
I WILL !!! I WILL DO THAT
some of my favourite indigenous artists, in no particular order:
Inuit artists:
the jerry cans (esp their album Inuusiq)
beatrice deer
twin flames
MÄori artists:
jordyn with a why
Indigenous australian artists:
tilly tjala thomas (i particularly love ngai yurlku nhiina)
kardajala kirridarra (srlsly check out ngajabu (Grandmother's Song))
i've also heard good things abt Baker Boy, but i haven't checked out his stuff yet
Another one for Inuit artists is Piqsiq! Two sisters whoâve been doing traditional throat singing since they were kids. They make some really gorgeous, eerie, atmospheric stuff. Highly recommend watching this video of them performing live a cappella using a looping machine, because they might be the coolest people on the planet actually
(Jo March nearly in tears voice) women,,,,
For anyone into North Asian and Central Asian folk music, there's this incredible Siberian folk-pop band called Otyken! The group is mostly women and they're from multiple indigenous groups in Siberia, with songs being sung in their range of different languages. They're so much fun and their music videos are amazing!
i'll go ahead and recommend The Halluci Nation (formerly known as A Tribe Called Red), an EDM group from First Nations Ontario that do really cool fusions of First Nations music with dubstep, moombahton, and hip hop.
I really really really appreciate people who share videos on posts like these, because almost without a doubt every time I love the music but Iâve never got the spoons to click on links and look through a bunch of music or worse google the artist I always end up too overwhelmed to start and I hate that
Haven't seen Belle Sisoski here yet so here we go: she's the current Artist of Year for BURO impact Awards. She's from Malaysia and knows how to play an insane amount of ethnic instruments and mixes them with her own voice. She does covers and her own songs, mixes ethnic instruments with Techno and shows the process. And she's also a live DJ at 19!
And one of her own:
Oh and of course there's also the HU and Bloodywood for people who like more rock and metal mixed in:
1876 is a Pow Wow punk rock band from Portland, Oregon
Alien Weaponry is an awesome MÄori metal band
Darkaside is a Papuan metal band
Shepherds Reign is a Samoan metal band
Ts'msyen (pacific northwest coast) black metal
ik im rly late to adding things to this post and its already rly long but I have a few more Indigenous Australian recs!
Baker Boy mentioned in the original recommendations but I HIGHLY recommend, i rly enjoy his music (and I've found that kids often do too, i've played a couple of appropriate songs for kids at work and they tend to love them and we get to challenge their preconceptions of what "aboriginal music"!), he's a Yolngu man and has a lot of songs in both English and YolĹu Matha
Birdz - Australian hip hop/rap, he's a Butchulla man from k'gari island in queensland
Briggs - Yorta Yorta man, rapper, also a very outspoken activist, and a comedian, writer and actor
King Stingray, they describe themselves as "YolĹu surf rock"
Gurrumul (really beautiful, slower songs), another YolĹu man, he was also a blind artist and unfortunately passed away about 10 years ago
Yothu Yindi - an older band started in the 80s, Gurrumul was also a member of this band
Emily Wurramara, an Aboriginal/Filipino artist, she's also released some children's songs which are also in language (specifically Anindilyakwa), the kookaburra one has been stuck in my head for like a week actually haha
Okay no I need to talk about the book version of Howl's Moving Castle. I love the movie but the book has such a different vibe and you, yes you, should read it.
Movie Howl is a soulful and quiet. Book Howl is a drama queen and Causing Problems and has a long string of jilted exes and couldn't shut up if you paid him.
Sophie and Howl drive each other up the wall at the beginning and it's really funny. Sophie and Howl are (despite themselves) very much in love by the end and they still drive each other up the wall and it's even funnier.
In the movie, Howl has been ordered by the king to participate in The War, and Howl is avoiding it because he is a brave conscientious objector. In the book, Howl has been ordered by the king to rescue his lost brother from the Witch of the Wastes, and Howl is avoiding it by any means necessary because he is a cowardly weasel who wants to stay as far from the Witch as possible.
In the movie, the Witch cursed Sophie because she was jealous about Howl speaking to Sophie for five minutes. In the book, the Witch cursed Sophie because Sophie had been doing surprisingly powerful magic for years without knowing it and it was actually starting to cut into the Witch's plans. (Sophie does not discover any of this until nearly the end of the book, but the reader can start to pick it up much earlier and the way Sophie's magic works is pretty darn cool.)
In the movie, there's a rumor that Howl eats the hearts of maidens, but this is implied to be nothing but nasty fearmongering. In the book, there's a rumor that Howl eats the hearts of maidens because Howl started the rumor so people would stop asking him to do wizard junk all the time.
The book lightly parodies a couple of tropes from Western fairy tales. In particular Sophie has internalized that, as the eldest of three sisters, her "destiny" is to fail so that her younger sisters will look cooler when they succeed, which is why she's so resigned to the hat shop at the beginning. (Sidebar: Sophie's sisters come up much more in the book and they're great.) There's also a really funny bit where Sophie attempts to operate a pair of seven-league boots.
In the movie, the fourth and final location that the magic door connects to is some sort of black void / mindscape / time portal dealy. In the book the fourth location is Wales, in the UK, on Earth, so that Howl can visit his family, because from Howl's perspective this is an isekai story.
I've never seen a more deserved cat slap
