because it happened to me and im wondering if this was a product of the ongoing cultural change around gay issues. before i ever had the chance to say to my parents "i am this" my mom was already sitting me aside to tell me "if there is anything you want to tell me, i want you to know ill accept you no matter what"

#not specifically #but they also made it very clear that it would be accepted #like dad would make comments about politicians still living in the past and needing to get their heads out of their asses #when he'd see stories about homophobic politicians #and i definitely remember one conversation very clearly #where dad was talking about how one of his coworker's kids had come out as gay #and he and mum were talking about if it was a surprise #and she said something about how 'the parents often know'#and to this day i still dont know if she was dropping a hint or it was an innocent and kinda ironically funny comment lmao #and also #even before i hinted at being gay #two of my friends started dating #and they hadn't cared about that at all either #it took me forever to mention anything about it to my mum and when i finally did #she was like oh yeah we've known for months #bc i forgot she was friends wth them on facebook lmaooo #but ANYWAY #the point is that no i didn't have a very clear specific 'we would accept you if you were gay' conversation #but it was very clear from other conversations they would #and millenial/at the millenial/gen z divide
