In the process
of learning to write without seeking validation.
Social media had me in a vice grip for a long time, seeking likes and comments to know that what I was posting was worth something. No one tells you how hard it is to go cold turkey and start again, living without seeking that constant validation.
I'm writing for myself, mostly. Though, I am wanting to write a book, or two! I want to share my characters stories, however before I do that, I need to be certain I can write. Instead of seeking validation from social media, I'll be slowly training myself up again. Slowly.
I need to remind myself that this is a marathon to becoming the real 'me'. I shouldn't expect this to happen overnight, no matter how much my brain wants it to.
So. Here's to learning slowly. Becoming slowly.
Half of writing is learning to live with making something that not everyone is going to like. And that "everyone" will end up including your friends and family. And guess what? That still doesn't mean your work is bad.
I am thankful for the friends I do have. The ones that stick by me through and through.
The friends that will be quiet for months but will check in with you to make sure you're okay.
The friends that support you in your endeavours and genuinely wish for your success.
They may not live near me. Hell, I really wish that they did, but I am thankful they chose to be my friend.
Starting over slowly.
Feeling hopeful, a little nervous and grateful to finally have a quiet place just to be. It's hard making new friends when you're older, so if you vibe with my posts, I'm happy you're here ❄️

Took a writing hiatus...and a reading one, now I'm throwing myself back into the flow of it. Other writers out there, how are you doing with your projects? What keeps you ticking through when you hit a wall? :) I love hearing hints n tips from other writers ^^
I've tried re-educating myself several times so I can work, earn and truly live with my chronic illness. Each time, my chronic illness renders me unable to do anything.
I genuinely feel helpless.
Audiobooks....
I struggle so hard to stay tuned into audiobooks... I'm trying *again* while I crochet. My brain just always seems to wander off for a few seconds/mins and then when I return, a whole bunch of story has been missed. Does anyone else do this with audiobooks?
It happens to me a lot. I've found that speeding up the playback helps, even just by 1.5x.
Ooh I hadn't even considered that maybe the reading speed was too slow! I'm 100% giving this a go. Thank you!! 😊

Starting today, I'm helping my partner edit his book...
Any helpful tips to edit a book like a good book editor will be greatly appreciated! I have a degree in English and creative writing, so technically I could be a book editor if I trained up... I just have no idea where to even begin.
Genres & Themes
I've always been a little confused as to what defines YA and Adult as well as specific genres like Sci-Fi and Fantasy. I always get stuck on particular details to the point where I'm not sure where they belong...Does anyone else struggle with this?

✦ Making fun of everything they do...gently. Like it’s the only way you can touch them.
✦ Telling them to be careful, but saying it like an insult.
✦ Correcting people who get their name wrong, then pretending it didn’t matter.
✦ Staring just a little too long—and then making a sarcastic comment to cover the slip.
✦ Showing up to things “coincidentally” wherever they are. All the time.
✦ Knowing exactly what food they like, but acting like it was a random choice.
✦ Volunteering to be on their team, share their tent, go with them, whatever excuse works.
✦ Looking away fast when they laugh. Too fast. Like it hurts.
