And then, much much later, you start to wonder why people are getting so caught up in drama for romance or sex, like, why bother? It’s not worth it, they’re not worth it, why are you doing stupid things for something that’s so- and then you wonder if there’s something wrong with you, start mentally over compensating. Like ‘uh, okay, um, who should I date? Who can I stand to date? Who could I stand to fuck?’ like- it’s not, it’s not something you want, but you want to fit it, to be normal.

Sometimes you don’t even know that you’re doing it.

I dunno, I guess, I just feel like, uh, people should understand more?

Admittedly, discovering you’re ace while in a relationship is hard AF. Especially if you’re with someone with a normal sex drive. Some aces can make this work, I guess. For me it was hell and I haven’t dated in like 5 years now lol. I just can’t deal with that again. I have no idea if I’d want to date again if the guy was ace, because I’ve yet to knowingly meet an ace guy (or even another ace chick).

Realizing that you’re ace is a sobering experience because you realize that what everyone else seems to have may not ever happen for you. Relationships? Marriage? Not if involves all the….things 🤨 I’ve been watching friend after friend get engaged, married, have their first (or second) kid, and while I’m happy for them, and *I’m* happy being solo, I still feel a twinge sometimes.

Only like 4 people in my life know. Most probably suspect it, if they have any idea about asexuality. Most just don’t ask. My boss jokingly tries to set me up with people. I jokingly pretend to be interested when a cute guy comes in. It’s just easier to pretend. Which is fucked up on my part, I know, because everyone i work with (all guys) would be totally accepting and not care. They’d probably joke about it a bit or ask questions (to honestly know more). But it doesn’t feel like anyone needs to know, you know? And a lot of people still don’t get it. Which makes sense because it took ME years to get it.

Someone must have ordered this.

Many of us get creative in trying to cut down the heating bill in winter. So far, we’ve seen people use tents indoors, DIY candle heaters, and of course, good ol’ fashioned layering with woolly socks and sweaters.

In Japan, land of quirky customs, quirky inventions and even quirkier homes, some warm up in winter using what looks like a cross between a low table, futon, reclining couch and a comforter. It’s called a kotatsu, and there’s a special heater built in underneath the table that warms the extremities of all who gather ‘round it. Or even sleep under it, as this writer recounts during her first winter in Japan.

And apparently, it can lower heating bills too, as Martin Frid explains on these pages some years ago:

Sitting by the kotatsu heating table, under a thick blanket, is still the way for entire families to keep warm on winter evenings. Rather than heating up the entire house, the cosy kotatsu is a comfortable way to spend a couple of hours together, with a much lower energy bill by the end of the month.
