this poem would make a fucking exceptional sonic fanartist collaboration and i cannot stop thinking about it. working on a list of ideas for such a hypothetical project. here's what i've got so far:
hope is a weapon, hope is a skill — one image. shadow on one side, sonic on the other, maybe using SA2 imagery.
hope is a plant you can care for or kill — silver standing in front of a lone green stem, exhausting himself with his powers to protect this single fragile piece of life in an empty, ash-covered wasteland
hope is a discipline — blaze! of course it's blaze. maybe she's participating in diplomatic negotiations, seen from behind... her posture is cool, confident, collected, but her hands are behind her back, clenched into fists that are glowing red-hot, betraying her emotions to the viewer but not other diplomats
something you choose — the chaotix, investigating a case out on the streets late at night. charmy is draped over vector's arm, asleep. espio is looking at him with a smile
hard to stop looking for, easy to lose — tangle and whisper, who else? the endless beam of sunshine and the wolf who lost everything to a single, horrible betrayal. and yet they fit together so perfectly. maybe in this image whisper has her mask off, maybe one eye open to represent how tangle has helped her find her hope again?
hope isn't something to have or to take — the easy joke to make here is the babylon rogues but honestly i think this one suits knuckles the best. i think this line represents how he feels about a lot of things in life. he's not a very material guy, and he takes great pride in preserving angel island. maybe this picture is him late at night guarding the master emerald, looking up at the clear sky full of stars and pondering the lives of the echidna tribe. for a fun easter egg, sticks' ears could be poking out of the jungle behind him.
if you can't find it, it's something you make — lanolin. it has to be lanolin. she's clearly been up all night working on a restoration project to rebuild a playground for the local children, and now that it's finally done, she's able to watch them play with an exhausted smile
make it from willpower — tails doing some work on the tornado outside one of the many workshops he's established. sonic looks on from where he's lounging in a tree... he's holding a photo of baby tails, scruffy and sad-looking. it's hard to believe it's the same kid doing aircraft maintenance.
make it from spite — this one is split into two halves. the top half is starline hunched over his desk in a dark lab, illuminated by cold, surgical blue light as he works upon something unseen. the bottom half is surge the tenrec snarling as she chokes the life out of a sonic-shaped silhouette (in the style of #56) while kit coldly holds a tails-shaped silhouette in a churning ball of water over her head
learn how to weaponize love in a fight — the temptation to make this one amy because of her hammer's heart motif is really overwhelming but i don't know if there's another, better choice for her because i am admittedly not as well-informed as i could be on her character
hope is a shield and a thing to defend — rabbit family portrait! cream, cheese, chocola, vanilla and gemerl all sit nicely posed, but the tiny dents and scratches in gemerl's surface betray a lifetime of dedication to protecting his family
end in itself and a means to an end — i have no ideas for this beyond wanting it to be a group shot of everyone together lol
