"it would be so good if it was good" will haunt you but "it's extremely good, except for the one or two parts which are so bad it's genuinely kind of insulting" will straight up drive you insane
one has you making posts like "okay but if the author UNDERSTOOD the POLITICAL IMPLICATIONS of the story they were telling, and leaned into it, it would actually be a really interesting exploration of..."
the other has you pacing your bedroom at one in the morning going "why. why would you ever in a million years do it like that. genuinely what possible thought process was involved. was the writer possessed by a fucking ghost or something."
these are getting weird
one that drives around near where i live has a massive bumper sticker that says “I NOW DRIVE THIS IN SHAME” in big bold red text
Edit to remove my thoughts from the tags (og tags still attached though):
Hot take, I don't see a problem with these.
I know with hindsight it's easy to say Elon Musk was always skeevy, but the average person did not know that until very recently, they just wanted an electric car and were buying one of the only ones available at the time. Also remember that your average Tumblr user is (probably) more online than most people, and significantly more involved in the type of political hubbub that would reveal Musk is a skeezeball.
There are lefties who will *be a dick to you if they see you with a Tesla car of any make or model, so it makes sense to nip that in the bud before you end up like those cybertruck owners who **get their car peed on, or worse.
A bumper sticker signaling your group affiliation is MUCH cheaper than buying a new vehicle.
Remember that these are CARS, not books. It's not like you can stuff them into the back of your closet when the author is revealed to be a shithead.
(*Not all lefties of course.)
(**Also I don't think it's unreasonable for people to not want to be perceived as assholes, even if nobody says anything to their face. We are social animals, we are hard-wired to seek acceptance!)
if you're confused about all the pumpkins and ghosts and stuff, it's actually a sort of seasonal harvest festival in parts of the northern hemisphere. yeah, it's kinda weird to think about how it's autumn down there when up here it's spring, haha yeah imagine them all, upside down, and getting colder in october when it's just starting to warm up
and can you imagine, down there it's COLD at christmas, crazy right?
that's nonsense, why would it be cold at christmas, it doesn't even make sense? that's a festival about the birth of something??? obviously that happens in summer.
Excuse me?! What you guys doing calling the northern hemisphere "down there"?! We're north. That's UP on a map when it's oriented properly.
what the fuck are you talking about?

I'm going down a rabbit hole looking through this Thai cattery that breeds for white back-stripes
They’re calling me every slur under the sun over on twitter for this post
Would you sell liquor to this baby

I don’t think life begins at contraception but I’d still sell liquor to baby
Wait hold on rb canceled that’s the wrong word wait no stop

Hnnnng. Colonel. I’ve infiltrated Shadow Moses.
never kill yourself. you have to fill your mutuals dash with shit they don't care about forever, okay?
being a kid and hearing adults say stuff like "woah 2011 was 4 years ago haha" didn't really convey the fucking horror of a youtube video crossing my recommended labelled "9 years ago" and it's from 2017. that's not true. 9 years ago is 2010 or something. don't lie.
We need more scary infinite variants of manmade environments like the Infinite IKEA or the Backrooms.
May I suggest, The Lot:
I'm sorry to disappoint you but this is a real parking lot. I didn't edit it.
Check out the lot-to-building ratio in any large American sports stadium
Some lots are so big they have bus services specifially inside it. The lots are broken into sections and buses go around to their sections at a set amount of times before the start of something and drive people to the main building.
The societies of lost people inside The Lot would probably operate something like that to locate and pick up new arrivals and bring them over to one of the major settlements.
In the Infinite Ikea or Backrooms you can convince yourself there's gonna be a door round the next corner or behind that wall.
But despite it being completely open, there is no hope of escape from The Lot. Whereever you look it's just more cars from horizon to horizon.
Sheesh, man, that's
a lot

"This week I discovered the same pattern, executed by Google. Google Chrome is reaching into users' machines and writing a 4 GB on-device AI model file to disk without asking."
Google Chrome is downloading a 4 GB Gemini Nano model onto users' machines without consent, with no opt-in, no opt-out short of enterprise t
pretty sure I did the chrome//flags thing a while ago, but also i switched to firefox, which is not without the occasional bullshit, but is vastly less bullshitty than chrome. This is why I treat genai "features" like the invasive blackberry bushes they are: cut, root, burn, and vigilantly watch for new shoots to uproot. I'm 54 years old and the world got by fine without genai for most of my lifetime.

After making the switch off of Windows and towards Linux I've managed to avoid chromium on my personal devices. It's just a pity so many of the tools I need to use on my work PC don't work on Firefox or its forks so I can't cut them out entirely
Here's a link with info about how to disable AI features. For those of us who cannot simply uninstall.
One of the most annoying genres of people on the internet are people who act like they believe science is one single monolithic thing. Like, you'll see an article saying something like "scientists studying the movement of tectonic plates", and then in the comments there'll be several smug people saying "smh why are scientists doing this instead of finding a cure for cancer", like. Why would a geologist be doing that.
*hefts my cartoonishly large shovel* It’s gotta be buried down there SOMEWHERE
