the term originated specifically as transphobic slur coined by transmedicalists (on 4chan, but also on tumblr and twitter) to make fun of nonbinary people who "weren't trans enough"/"weren't REALLY trans"/etc. if you think it's okay to use these terms for nonbinary people you are siding with transphobes, full stop.

there's no magical category of people who it's okay for you to misgender btw. whether or not a nonbinary person is a bad person or not still doesn't give you the right to misgender them. just because someone uses "she/they" or "they/them" or neopronouns or whatever other combination of pronouns you want to imagine doesn't make it NOT misgendering when you start referring to them by their literal fucking assigned gender at birth.

"getting mad about [derogatory slur] is maybe the most [derogatory slur] thing you could do." idk maybe making leading comments and assumptions regarding both someone's agab and genitals in order to immediately demean them and call them a slur they don't want to be called is just not a good look. maybe, just maybe, you shouldn't be calling strangers terms that have a historically transphobic and bigoted origin.

With a heavy heart, I come to you all with the news announced by close friends of Cat Frazier that she had passed away on Monday, June 29.

She had been running @animatedtext since 2012, with her impact on the internet SHAPING tumblr. If you have a years long history on this site, you’ve seen her art.

She ran a venue in Oakland called Oakland Secret, a punk venue where I’d vend at regularly as an artist. She made a safe space for queer artists, artists of color, and local furs too. I am forever grateful for her work both in the Bay Area creative scene and online, and am forever changed by the totality of her impact.
