mind you, the emphasis on the seven flowers being a secret third thing where originating from living beings (and not objects created for a purpose) gives them a higher capacity of self determination than other darkners and the meta ability to fuck with the game mechanics has not been lost on me after the MULTIPLE instances, in both Undertale and Deltarune, of characters going Huh... Humans Have Skeletons. Where The Hell Do Skeleton Monsters Come From?

A lot of Gaster related/adjacent events involve the crossing of some sort of threshold. Going through doors, taking an elevator, going from one game screen to another, etc. It probably has some sort of relation to the idea of a middle-ground or crossroads having some sort of mystical quality where things that usually can't happen, do. And to be fair Undertale was all about crossing a threshold and Deltarune is all about traveling between worlds so this imagery/symbolism/whatever probably isn't something we're supposed solely apply to Gaster.

This post originally started out as me making a joke about how at some point, Deltarune is going to reference the most common method of catching Missingno in the Gen 1 Pokemon games. Although It's a multi-step process I feel like the going up and down the shore is the most iconic part and the one that would be referenced. BUT THEN I realized that a shore is a middle ground and I remembered all the threshold stuff I've been thinking about in relation to UTDR (it has been on my mind for awhile, since before Ch. 2 came out) and by the time I added all of that on the connection to Missingno would seem really thread barren so I deleted it.
