I refused to draw at all ever until high school, and even then I did it rarely, so I'm only now learning how to draw. I hope you'll bare with me on this journey!

I'm realizing more and more lately that pronouns make me fucking tense. I'm nonbinary and I prefer being around nonbinary and trans folks because they tend to be like-minded. The thing is, being around people who care about their pronouns means I have to deal with pronouns.

I struggle with pronouns. They mean nothing to me. How do you learn something with zero associations? When I look at someone or hear from them there's not a single thing about them that tells me their pronoun is a certain thing, so how am I supposed to remember the pronouns of a huge number of people including those I rarely see? I have real associations with kanji (pictograph, relevant radicals) and have spent loads of time making my mind recognize those kanji as that in part because I can trust those kanji have one meaning that will never change. I still forget my kanji and even hiragana constantly. Mind you, I am now a student in a harsh program, and I don't even have remembering power to spare for *myself* through the semester.

So, naturally, I can't remember everyone's pronouns all the time. Especially for those I don't see often. At one point I subconsciously defaulted to she/her for someone I only saw once or twice months - sometimes many months - apart. They used they/them. I was corrected, and each time I would do my damndest to make sure I got it right after that including putting a sticky note on my monitor, and by the time I saw them again the sticky note had fallen off and gotten lost and I forgot again. I was eventually accused of doing it on purpose, and not by the person themself. They didn't seem to care, probably because they alone realized they saw me quite rarely.

That was not the first time, but I wanted it to be the last. I decided to make a very strong effort to switch to they/them as a default. I would use it constantly, so I would not forget. Now I come across people who feel that is misgendering, but I still cannot remember and use the correct pronouns reliably. They get upset. This includes cis people.
