@cold-boy-tapes i heard the song “another world” a while ago, and immediately connected it to him, thinking “wow this tune is so good. unfortunately i don’t know him well enough to have a playlist..” thankfully this event pushed me to fill it into a full 8track! this guy with his all of 24 seconds of screentime,,, ohhh well a little a lot of extrapolating must be done. everyone who has thought about OG hickey for longer than 10 seconds has their theories and headcanons, and i have come to develop some of my own by making this playlist. would it really be an obscure character if we weren’t asking for more screentime? (just a minute? please?)
there is a bit of an order to listen in. i tried to tell a bit of a story, the songs melt from the time before he met E.C. up until his death.

now i will ramble a bit about my choices. heart of gold introduces us to his character. since we know the terror was (supposed to) be his maiden voyage, he probably hasn’t seen much of the world yet. he wants, for one reason or another, to find something out there. dry the rain is where i imagine he meets E.C… who lulls him into a false sense of security. sharing his company— perhaps out from under the rain— sharing drinks. no surrender, is hickey regaling his life story, his ambitions. pile of sins.. is when the hour grows late, and so begins the stumble back home along the canal. a helpful steadying arm turns into the sharp slice of a blade. regrets! last comfort is hickey clawing at his last moments of life, his past and future flashing before his eyes. wasn’t this guy supposed to be a friendly face? why has he done this to me?? i think the last line especially ties it up nicely. “This could have been yours.” but E.C. assumes his identity, and his place on the Terror. now with another world, we move into ghost territory. this song encapsulates a lot of my feelings about him. his rage and regret at not only being killed, but having his identity stolen. he was so keen to serve on that ship, he wanted that life so bad. and then E.C. goes and mutinies and gets eaten by a bear. brilliant. it is THE hickey song of all time. in my humble opinion. i urge you to look up the lyrics and ponder this song with me. it has a lot of meat to it. i have daydreamed making an animatic to it for months…. alas, we do not live in such a kind world.. but a man can dream. anyway. we close out the playlist with almost was good enough. talk about regrets. almost no one makes it out… hickey died in that canal, but had he gone on that ship, he still would have died, prolonged suffering, maybe. i suppose E.C. thinks he did hickey a favour, by giving him a quick death before anything even started

okay so some of these songs were released under hayden's previous aliases but they are usually taken down now so i count them as unreleased. i split it into two parts, the ship's boys and some of my fav ABs. put my shipping goggles on for this one lol (it's the first playlist i made for this event, and my favourite).
SIDE A: the ship's boys
1. hospital beds (tommy evans) – linked to william strong's since 1) i am fond of them as a pairing and 2) they basically died together. also the insane intimacy of having the half of your corpse linked to the half of someone else's. tuunbaq was fujoshing out with them.

3. age of delilah (david young) – fuck american teenager, THIS is the coming of age anthem. i've had to physically restrain myself from editing him on it. and yes, the "suffocate myself" part is a nod to him choking on his own blood. he was just a baby :((

5. churchyard (thomas hartnell) – this is tied to magnus'. i was thinking of making a separate edit of them both with dust bowl but then i realised she is no longer my unreleased queen 😔😔 anyway. it's sad. they all are.
