Hey so I know we All Know This but I will NEVER be over a character being feverish and delirious and making No sense. I will never be over a glittery-eyed, shivering, distressed character weakly gripping another's arm and asking them questions they don't know the answer to, and probably don't mean anything at all. I will never be over characters calling out for people either long gone or right next to them, but unrecognizable in their delirium. I will never be over a character crying in frustration and fear over something in their head they can't explain to whoever is helping them, and all they can do in return is stroke their hair and shush them gently.
Moby Dick por Umberto Scalabrini

YOUR QUEEQUEG DESIGN IS LIKE OH MY GOD FANTASTIC. YOUR ARTSTYLE IS GLORIOUS. ENJOY READING MOBY DICK THAT BOOK GENUINELY CHANGED ME ITS SO BRILLIANT. ALSO
THE TERROR!! IM NOWHERE NEAR FINISHED IT YET LOL BUT STILL!!!! I LOVE THE TERROR POLAR EXPEDITIONS ARE MY LIFEBLOOD
THANK YOU!!!! THAT'S VERY KIND OF YOU :''']
I HAVE IN FACT ALREADY FINISHED MOBY DICK! holy shit I was expecting it to be one of those books that I'd have to force myself through a little because I'd feel good about myself for reading it once I was through with it.. it was like homework that I'd have to do to become better read. I wasn't expecting to hate it of course otherwise I would never have bought it, but holy shit I was not expecting to love it the way I've ended up doing. It's so darn good. Everyone who ever claimed it was boring owes me money I think
The Terror is also SO GOOD another thing I wasn't particularly expecting to give me the brainworms it did but holy fuckkkkk.
I think I've entered my obsessed with media set in the 1800s on a boat era ....
NO REAL AF I was the same going into it like I'd barely seen anything about it other than vague mentions of the themes of obsession. I fully thought I was gonna be bored but my instinct prevailed and oh my god like I cannot stress enough that the book genuinely changed me. I've not been the same since lol. Its genuinely my favourite book ever lol.
Can't lie I genuinely cried for like half an hour straight at the ending lol CAUSE I DIDNT KNOW EVERYONE BAR ISHMAEL DIES AT THE END I was not okay.
See with the Terror for me the only reason I'm watching it is because I have a bone deep polar exploration obsession and I'm so happy it's lead me here because the Terror so far has been brilliant. Like I know the story of the Franklin Expedition so I know how it ends and everything but specifically The Terrors supernatural take on the mystery of it all is so fascinating to me. Silna and Goodsir are by far my favourites for now lol, though as much as I hate Hickey, he fascinates me.
ALSO REALL You should try 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne if youre lookimg for book recs. It's also 1800s and sea based, and has a very similar highly descriptive style to Moby Dick. Also all the characters are incredibly endearing and/or interesting.
YES SILNA IS MY ABSOLUTE FAVE I LOVE HER SO MUCH!!! I honestly don't particularly go here (polar exploration) but it's fun when something big is revealed about the Franklin expedition and I can go "woah just like my guys from my show..."
My next 1800s boat read is actually going to be Master and Commander (when I can recover enough from Moby Dick that is...) by Patrick O'Brien which I'm very looking forward to, but I shall keep 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in mind...

sleepy guys
Some illustrations for “Moby Dick”
a lil' old Ahab
Reading Moby-Dick is fun because by chapter 6 you think you've got the book figured out, then thirty chapters in Ishmael smacks you in the head with 13 pages of whale classifications, then you're on chapter 123 and you're sobbing through the fifth mini-play in the book, Ishmael hasn't shown up for 200 pages, you haven't yet lain eyes on the titular character, and you feel about as close to shooting Ahab as his first mate. Fun.
The thing is that I get how someone could get frustrated or bored with all the side tangents in Moby Dick but I think the book being written in first person just makes it rather endearing to me. This isn't just Herman Melville trying to stuff in as many whale facts as could possibly be relevant into the book, no. This is Ishmael taking us aside and going "hey, here's some context that might prove useful to have :]" and "I love whales and I hope you can understand why" and I just go omg thank you Ishmael, my good friend Ishmael wants me to know these whale facts.. wow :]
