something which i find so deeply compelling about the first episode of knight rider is michael's battle with ptsd and specificically his 'freeze' response. you have a 6'4 beast of a man, ex-military, very tough guy exterior, and when he is faced with tonya's gun, or kitts headlights, he *freezes*. he becomes so frightened that he tries to hide by standing totally still. his reasoning reverts back to the primal, animal state. he loses all the power he holds within an instant. it no longer matters that he is physically fit, strong, intelligent, menacing, whatever. its so charmingly human, and so important as a character flaw and motivator

#kr #stealing numerous tags here #it is SO interesting and important #the way the books discuss it too is so fascinating and surprisingly well done for what they are and when they were written #||#especially considering how metatextually defined by action he is #like both literally in that yk action hero #but so many episode climaxes revolve around him getting somewhere on time or beating up the bad guy or defusing the bomb #he's not a character who can afford to freeze #but he does #because he is afraid #because he does not want to die and that trumps everything for a few seconds #and that in combination with the fact that kitt CAN afford to give him those seconds #that kitt is fast enough and safe enough to allow him that fear #that he won't hit michael when he locks up in the garage #that he'll protect him when he can't grab the wheel and drive #|||#this and it keeps popping up throughout the show #also how he holds his left arm up at and angle from the amount of times he gets shot and bruised on that side #and that he hates and freezes at loud noises #diversity win! the guy in love with his car also has ptsd!#|#his never discussed PTSD is what makes his character so good #he sleeps around. doesn't have a real home. his closest friend is a talking car #like there's so much wrong there and god I wish the show was better so it could address it #<- you. you all. all of you. unfortunately i'm insane about this man and his car. they make me sad
