the entire point of life is to be silly, kind, and really weird btw.
Replacing physical buttons and controls with touchscreens also means removing accessibility features. Physical buttons can be textured or have Braille and can be located by touch and don't need to be pressed with a bare finger. Touchscreens usually require precise taps and hand-eye coordination for the same task.
Many point-of-sale machines now are essentially just a smartphone with a card reader attached and the interface. The control layout can change at a moment's notice and there are no physical boundaries between buttons. With a keypad-style machine, the buttons are always in the same place and can be located by touch, especially since the middle button has a raised ridge on it.
Buttons can also be located by touch without activating them, which enables a "locate then press" style of interaction which is not possible on touchscreens, where even light touches will register as presses and the buttons must be located visually rather than by touch.
When elevator or door controls are replaced by touch screens, will existing accessibility features be preserved, or will some people no longer be able to use those controls?
Who is allowed to control the physical world, and who is making that decision?
I work cybersecurity, this is like half my job.

so "incubus" means someone who lies on top of something, and "succubus" means someone who lies underneath something, and the former also turns up in the word "incubate", which means to lie on top of an egg. To ensure closure we could therefore posit an analogous term "succubate", which would be something like this:
he is succubating.

hikes are very good yes but a deluxe hike is when you are accompanied by a freak with niche nature knowledge. theyâre like omg stop thereâs a horned valerian varmint beetle here and then you both get to crouch down and look at a bug like :)
Bonus: you donât have to cover a lot of ground. I can turn a three kilometre walk into a three hour adventure. Five if there is a small rocky stream or a few ponds.
ah, welcome to any hike with me. I yearn for the field biology again. Spoon biology, so spoon.

So my sister wants to start sewing more, because
a. Sheâs 5Ⲡ11âł and can never find pants long enough for her legs or shirts long enough for her arms.
b. She hates synthetic fibers as much as I do and itâs difficult to find natural fiber clothes that arenât made of cotton
c. Sheâs a biologist and would physically fistfight microplastics if given half a chance
So her gift from mom and dad for her birthday was a sewing machine. Not a super expensive one but a good solid serviceable one.
And recently she asked âSo where do I GET wool or linen and thread that isnât polyesterâ and mom was like âgo ask your sisterâ
And I, of course, crashed into the group text like âGET A PEN I HAVE WEBSITES FOR Uâ and honestly Iâm thrilled about this
âWhere did u get all thisâ
âBets, u know Iâm a 15th degree blackbelt of buying shit on the internetâ
âoh yeah truâ
Op can may we inquire about the website list
Linen; https://www.graylinelinen.com/
cotton and Silk thread; https://redrockthreads.com/
Linen thread and wool fabric; https://burnleyandtrowbridge.com/ (theyâve got wool stuffs and worsted wool fabric for $15 a yard! I just got three yards of navy worsted wool Iâm making a constellation winter skirt from)
More linen thread and wool; https://wmboothdraper.com/ (just ordered wool broadcloth to make a coat)
Silk fabric (THE best place to get silk lining fabrics and raw silk fabric):https://www.dharmatrading.com/
A varying assortment of wool and silk and cotton and even some leather, use coupon code spring2020 for 50% off your full order, worked yesterday when I bought some stuff there; https://metrotextilesnyc.com/
Wool. You want wool coating for under $20 a yard? Sure you do. Itâs here. Not a huge variety of colors, most are black or brown, but hey https://www.fashionfabricsclub.com/Catalog?refinementIds=4096748&Keyword=wool&pageSize=16
I donât know a lot about sewing, but I want to make or have my mom make some linen pants & shirts for when Iâm watering, because it gets to 105 here and we have mosquitos so I need to be covered. What type of linen do I buy? Also, linen pajama shorts, yes/no?
(Iâve been wearing my renfaire pants which are a linen mix, I think. But the frikking mosquitos that hide in the tomatoes get my arms)
Medium weight is what Iâd go with.
And linen pajama shorts is a HARD yes.
Renaissance Fabrics is good for all sorts of things
Mood doesnât specialize in natural fabrics but they do have basically every fabric ever made so
For wools, I cannot recommend Woolsome enough! Theyâre a bit more expensive then the above links, but they have a spectacular range of colours and weights, as well as diamond pattern and herringbone weaves. They also have a range of linens, though not as extensive.
Historical fabrics for re-enactors
Tiedtohistory.com has sheer voile linen
The Linen Lab has a variety of weaves, weights, and colors available
Period Fabric has a variety of wools, but switch to the full website if youâre on mobile
Quilt guild president: the summer quilt challenge. As you know it is the 250th anniversary-
Guild: -chilly silence-
President: so the challenge to you all is a quilt with your interpretation and/or feelings towards our current âdemocracyâ
Guild: đđđ
President: I know this bunch. I am sure you will come up with something spectacular, and it will probably get angrier as the summer progresses. Full quilt, mini quilt. Go wild, release some emotions.
How I spent my July 4th.
AppliquĂŠ almost done. Then onward to the background stitching
At the start I thought stitching âfuck you I wonât do what you tell meâ for the last quarter would be therapeutic
I was correct.
Close to finishing the top. Now I gotta figure out how I want to quilt it.
I have one more line of embroidery and I think it needs to be bolder and messier than I started it.
Hard to tell in this light, and without ironing it, that the embroidery does get gradually bolder as it goes. Two strands at the top versus 5 at the bottom (6 for the started to be redone final line).
Not bad for first time doing appliquĂŠ.
Still need to decide how I want to quilt it.
please.
Fucking geniuses made mimes funny
I think it is very helpful to be able to distinguish between a level or type of fear where it is acceptable or worthwhile to "push through" and "do it scared," and a level or type of fear where this is harmful.
The idea of "anxiety" as a disorder of a person having inappropriate fear responses to harmless or safe things causes a framework where the impact of fear is measured by the person's ability to "function" and outwardly respond in "normal" ways, not their internal experience of suffering.
At a certain level of fear, "pushing through" or "doing it scared" loses its power to alleviate fear and instead creates another acutely negative experience of helplessness that increases the fear in future.
Likewise, if a person is extremely, inescapably afraid, telling them that they must "get better" by learning to tolerate and push through fear encourages dissociation and judgmental, domination-based attitudes toward the body, and reinforces the idea that existence itself is negative and scary
I've been given a lot of ideas for how to sense this distinction from notes on my posts, but i have to refine them.
Characteristics of "manageable" fear where "pushing through" might be productive:
Breathing exercises and other "coping skills" calm you down to some extent.
You still feel somewhat connected and responsive to your surroundings and your body, and you can drift between paying attention to different things.
Your memory of the event feels relatively normal (?)
The negative feelings and bodily symptoms resolve quickly do not last after the event is over.
Characteristics of fear that is extreme and severe enough that it needs to be addressed in a different way:
"Coping skills" do not help you to feel any better.
Paying attention to anything is difficult; it's hard to hold a conversation with someone and comprehend what they are saying to you.
Your memory of the event is extremely fixated on a small detail or aspect of it, or you can't remember the event clearly at all.
You feel like you're being pulled out of your body or that your body is limp and being dragged through the scary thing.
The way the fear is making you feel in your body is extremely distressing and unpleasant in of itself (severe nausea, sensations of suffocation, painful bodily tension)
The sensory memory of the event is extremely vivid and keeps replaying itself in your mind.
You do not experience a sense of relief after the event is over.
not sure how to expand this list but I think it's a good start

Today
I touched the ocean.
I watched Maine cobbled streets go from sleepy alleys to writhing trails of ants crawling over each other.
I boarded a boat.
I was sunburned despite sunscreen and my best efforts to lurk in shadow at sea.
I saw a humpback whale spout and deep dive and tail flip multiple times.
I watched puffins at sea and the insane biologists living on (1) very small rock.
I chased the sun as it fled the shore only to catch darkness.
I ate Tim Tams and crackers and hummus and a wheel of cheese.
I thrust myself into the heat then plunged into the cold to make myself newer and stronger.
And now, I rest.
