ever since relationships between humans and merfolk have improved, it is not uncommon to see nomadic merfolk tribes traveling with human ships in a symbiotic relationship and also friendship of sorts

after a pirate ship sinks in a storm, all the pirates end up adopted like stray pets by the local merfolk, who are figuring out how to keep humans alive as they go

merfolk populations who hear the sailors sing at night and have started singing the same songs underwater

When Sigma woke up, most of what they could see was white, with some black and gray sprinkled. And most of what they could hear was a rhythmic succession of whispers that came to a halt a brief after opening their eyes. Which, to be fair, overall meant they were faring better than expected after using their ability on Dostoevsky and willingly taking on such a big load of information.

(Sure, who could have imagined it was going to be centuries worth of intel anyway, but still.)

Then, as he managed to fully focus his senses after having been asleep for-- quite long, that was all Sigma was willing to speculate on, a familiar white braid tickled his cheek when its owner leaned in to press a kiss over his forehead.

It was then when they realized they were in Nikolai’s arms, and he had likely been holding onto them for quite some time too.

“How long was I--?” Sigma started out asking, before choosing to leave that for if nothing else until a bit later. Preferably, after the incoming headache that always invaded him after waking up from an ability-related processing nap had both settled and passed since he would be sharper then. And, in the relatively small timeframe before having to deal with that, he would rather do nothing at all.

Unless there were better options than simply nothing, like what Nikolai suggested.

“Come here.” He mouthed, even when making most of the moves himself so Sigma didn’t have to make any effort, and lowering his face to reach their lips.

Exhaustion be damned, Sigma melted into the kiss anyway, using up all the strength he could currently muster to wrap his arms around Nikolai as well. Whatever was coming next, it could wait for at least a kiss’ duration.
