Francis St.J

Richard

• Being accustomed to hot Californian weather and a need for t-shirts, he primarily cuts on his shoulders and thighs, or inflicts one-off cuts on his arms that he's learned to pass off as regular scrapes and scratches and cover with inconspicuous band-aids.

• He rarely sits down with the intention of cutting himself but will often do it in the spur of the moment when he's already holding something sharp... shaving his face or cutting his hair, for example.

• Self-harm for him falls somewhere between morbid curiosity and an act of self-loathing.

Henry

• He's had issues with self-harming behavior since he was young, and it's only gotten worse as he's gotten older.

• Much like the rest of his character, self harm is just another dimension of his repressed nature, of his barbarity and madness bubbling to the surface and overcoming the civilized front he puts on. He despises it as much as he has come to depend on it.

• He cuts himself carefully, methodically, and deeply, and takes great pains to ensure his injuries go unnoticed. He's learned to pass off the pain or stiffness that comes from deep wounds as just the onset of a migraine, or pain from his childhood accident giving him trouble.

• He also hurts himself in other ways - picking at half-healed wounds to reopen them, pulling at his hair, absentminded behaviors that prolong his pain as much as possible.

Francis

• He's perhaps the most avid about it of them all... his attempt to take his own life did not come up out of the blue, I think.

• Where he picked this behavior up from - his neurotic mother, the institute in Switzerland as a child? - nobody's quite sure, but with all of his anxious tendencies he's nearly as keen to reach for a razor blade as he is a cigarette when he's alone.

• He's nearly passed out from cutting a little too deeply quite a few times and will often call Henry or Richard in a panic convinced he might be bleeding out and on death's door (he's always fine).

• He'll put his cigarettes out on himself sometimes, too.

Bunny

• Though you would never expect it, he cuts on his legs and thighs... it's a terrible habit Henry imposed on him and he's constantly anxious someone's going to find out.

• He doesn't like to cut deeply at all (and is kind of a wuss about all the blood), but he does have a few prominent scars from deep cuts Henry has done for him (consensually or with a great deal of coercion? The world may never know).

• He cuts himself the most in the time leading up to his death, which would no doubt be discovered posthumously - he'd be turning in his grave knowing his entire family had found out about his filthy habit.

Charles

• He's notorious for his self-destructive behavior (re: alcoholism) and I think self harm is just another dimension of that for him

• He and Camilla have cut themselves together for a while now (I could launch into a tangent here about my thoughts on them both being CSA victims but I will not) and while neither of them tend to cut very deep it's become one of many perverse bonding activities for them.

• He'll also frequently hurt himself in other ways, especially in fits of anger... punching walls, hitting himself, throwing things, etc.

Camilla

• Aside from the habits she shares with Charles, she often cuts herself with Henry... they're equally neurotic individuals and self-harm is a strange, intimate ritual of their relationship.

• She lets Henry cut her as much as he pleases, and even hit her sometimes... she derives a very strange sort of satisfaction at getting to see the barbaric, unrestrained sides of him no-one else does. They spent a lot of time cutting one another in that motel room (among other things)

• From Richard's perspective she was always painted as the victim here, but I think the full picture is that she's the perpetrator equally as much as she is the victim.
