It is actually scary seeing people who just fully aren't aware that marriage is about way more than a paper or about "getting the government involved" with your relationship. Marriage provides a lot of legal and financial benefits that I don't think people are fully aware of, like:
having joint health insurance plans or being under your spouse's insurance
social security and life insurance payouts
more tax things than I can honestly think of
combined credit scores for the purpose of applying for a loan or mortgage
hospital visitation rights
the right to make medical decisions for your spouse when they're unable to; if there isn't an established medical directive AND a durable power of attorney of healthcare for your partner, these rights go to the next of kin even if they're abusive or you're estranged
the ability to sue on your behalf if you die
the right to make decisions regarding your last rites and your funeral
inheritance!!!
CHILD CUSTODY!!! if you have a child anf they are not biologically your non-married partner's or legally adopted by them, there is absolutely no guarantee that your partner would get custody if anything happened to you; even if it's in your will, wills are just suggestions in terms of child custody, and the court will hear out any adults who have a claim and will often side with biological family (your siblings, your parents, or the child's other bio family) over the parent's unmarried partner, even if you've been living together for years and the child knows them as another parent. this has been used by abusive and bigoted family to steal grieving children from their other parent
Do I think all of these things should be exclusive to marriage? No. Do I know another solution? Also no. Is this the realoty we live in regardless? Yes! There is a reason why marriage has been something people have fought for for so long and so hard, whether it's interracial marriage or gay marriage or whatever else, these are all rights exclsuive to married couples and something that you absolutely need to consider when starting a life with someone, especially if you have children or plan to have them in the future.

Weird shit happens to John Constantine. Itās just a matter of fact that even when heās not looking for it weird shit finds him.
So after he rids a local library of a pack of demons and finds an overly large husky of all things crouched in the little reading corner now covered in demon goo he doesnāt really question it.
āHey there buddy,ā John says, crouching down holding out a hand to the dog. The husky slowly peeks out of his hiding space sniffing at Johnās hand lightly. āItās okay.ā
The dog looks up at him and for a beat John swears he sees a flicker of red in those blue eyes. But itās gone before he can even think about it and assumes itās a trick of the brightly colored walls.
A little something to celebrate the ACOTAR 6&7 announcement! Canāt wait to see my parents again

If Shane and Ilya have to be on the same team it should have been Boston.
Ilya would sit his team down and be like: Boys. You know how the second greatest hockey player in the league fucks up our chances at the cup pretty regularly? Well what if I told you Iāve decided to take one for the team and solve this problem for us once and for all. Thatās right, Iāve leveraged my incredible body and sex appeal to seduce Shane Hollander to Boston at an extreme pay cut, thus basically securing us every cup until the end of time. Now everyone be nice to this hot piece of ass I have secured for hockey reasons because Iām such a baller.
I think they would crown him a champion. I think they would be like āthe gay thing is weird but we canāt argue with results and anyway Ilyaās fucked all the pussy from Boston to Montreal it makes sense heās branched out. Boston would be like āwe literally donāt care if theyāre fucking on center ice if theyāre winning cups theyāre winning fucking cupsā. Shane would do a joint dunks commercial with him and eventually become the peopleās sweetheart. Maura Healey would personally petition for Ily to get citizenship.
Ilya is their god king and Shane is therefore untouchable. The people of Boston and the team itself would be shitting themselves with sheer joy at the chance to beat the shit out of Montreal in every way that matters. Itās a literal bloodbath every time. People are crying in the streets watching their boys give a beatdown to every Metro who gets near Shane on the ice. Everyoneās uncle from south Boston gets a little worked up around their Newport like āhe may be a homo but heās our homo. And he plays some damn fine hockey.ā They name one of the harbor seals after him.
i know that most of those posts are jokes but i cannot fathom thinking that the message in the prequels is that "romance leads to fascism" like even as a joke. what do you mean. i do know that it's everyone's favorite hobby to think anakin is an idiot but can't we for a second consider that maybe his issue wasn't romance and instead thirteen years of grooming after a lifetime in slavery that highly conditioned how he saw relationships. i'm not even trying to say anidala is the epitome of an healthy relationship but i think all things considered we can't fault either of them for wanting to be together, it was perhaps the most stable thing in anakin's life for the three years of the war and the only relationship of his that wasn't hierarchal in nature at least i truly don't believe them falling in love was the issue sorry. also considering palps was planning to take over the republic long before he met anakin i do believe we sometimes overestimate his importance in palpatine's plans. like having the chosen one and attacking the jedi from within is just his cherry on top!!!
Amidala was the thing that saved him, in the end.
Not just the fact that Amidala had children, and that they lived. But the fact that he'd had family, he had a wife, he knew what it meant. Luke said, "I am a Jedi, like my father before me," and VaderāAnakināgets to confront the fact that he has not loved anything at all for years, but he used to know how to do so, and what, in the end, does he want to spend the rest of his life doing?
Yeah, no. Fuck this, fuck that, and fuck the cackling old bastard, down the shaft with him. A decision made out of love. And maybe he would have remembered the ability to love from his childhood, but I think the fact that he had at least something in his adulthoodāI think that may have tipped the balance.
And Anakin thought he had lost all that he had loved: his mother, twice over; Padme, when she died; the child, unborn. He betrayed himself for them and became Vader and lost them all anyway. And then he learned in Star Wars that he had a son, that the child had survived, and he was obsessed. Oh, sure, with tracking that Rebel down, with the stated goal of turning him--but at what point had Vader begun to lie to Sidious? He rants to Luke about Obi-Wan this, and Obi-Wan that, but he never speaks her name. He never mentions her, and the fact that she's the only one who believed that he had good in him until it broke her heart and killed her.
Sure, in the originals her name is never spoken, and that's probably for Doylist reasons. (I doubt Lucas had even thought of it yet.) But with the prequels, it becomes clear that Luke inherited much of what made Padme herself: a clear sense of right and wrong, a desire to do the right, the just thing, a dedication to that good even when everything is saying that the good should be thrown away, a steady, unwavering embrace of all that is good. Sure, he looks more like Anakin, but his temperament is Padme's. Padme absolutely would have deliberately walked into a trap with the sole purpose of rescuing her loved one. And Luke does it twice in Return of the Jedi. Vader had to have learned about what happened to Jabba's sail barge--Tattooine may be on the far edge of the Galaxy, and a place he hates, but I suspect that Vader long had Jabba under watch, and that he finds out what happened, some survivor spilling their story about the blacksuited young man with the laser sword.
And then Luke comes to him, calls him father (something he expected to never be called, and he'd never had a father in that way). And Luke refuses to call him Vader, pleads with him that there's still good in him, insistent that this ends with Anakin's return or his own death. And Vader thinks he's content with that. That's the boy's foolish choice, obviously.
But is he content with that? When that boy--all that remains of Padme, save the young woman he's just learned about but knows now why her anger and impulsivity reminded him of himself and her quick thinking and wit reminded him of Padme, all that remains of the wonderful woman he fell in love with, recklessly and impulsively but with his entire heart--when that boy is writhing on the ground, lashed with Force lightning (a pain he knows himself), calling out, "Father, please", he finds himself once again helpless to save the one he loves.
And then he realizes that he wasn't helpless, that he had made choices, and that he had another chance to make a choice.
And this time, this time, when he intervenes, it's not to stop the good, but to stop the evil. He grabs Sidious with both hands (well, stump and mechanical hand) and yeets him down the shaft. (Did he think of Mace in that moment? Who knows?) And one of the remaining pieces of Padme in the Galaxy--his son, Luke, this man, this Jedi, like his father before him--had managed to save him from a hell of his own choosing. Love made the difference. Luke's faith (and Padme's before him) made the difference.

some people think writers are so eloquent and good with words, but the reality is that we can sit there with our fingers on the keyboard going, āwhatās the word for non-sunlight lighting? do you think ma and pa kent had to pretend to be antivaxxers so that they wouldn't have to explain why their son of steel keeps breaking the syringes. do you think they still flee in shame every time they run into smallville's only pediatrician at church or the farmers market so they dont have to explain why their boy still hasnt had a tetanus shot even though he regularly works around farm equipment. do you think the town vet wonders why the kents give their various farm animals shots when necessary but not their only son. do you think it keeps them up at night.
dc comics heritage post
The pediatrician is in on it. He's known the Kents his whole life. They're wary and scared the first time he sees them, but then Martha pulls out a sewing needle, says, "Watch this." And pushes it against Clark's bicep. It snaps in half. Clark giggles.
"That's new."
"We're trusting you here, Mickey," says John. He's one of the few people who still calls him Mickey. He's Dr. Michael to the kids. Michael to their parents. But he and John used to chase fireflies and hunt lizards together. The first time John asked Martha on a date, he invited Mickey along, too. Mickey didn't get an invite the next week.
"It could be a serious condition," Mickey says. "There are rare conditions--"
"We found him in our east field in a spaceship," Martha says, cutting to the heart like she always has. She's still the kindest person Mickey's ever known. And if she's cutting to the heart of it, it's desperately serious or anger-inducing. "It's buried next to the barn."
"I'll show it to you," John adds, "But I swear to you, Mickey, I swear on my marriage, on my farm, I swear we're sure he's just fine."
Mickey thinks it over. He takes out an empty syringe. "All over is it?"
"Yes," Martha says.
Mickey finds the softest part of Clark's leg. He presses the needle against it. It snaps off. Clark giggles again. "Anything else I should know?"
"He can lift the tractor," John says. "Like it's nothing."
Mickey nods slowly. "Okay," he says. He taps the empty syringe against his hand. "Okay. I'm going to order the usual vaccines he should have. Can you make him screech a little? I can tell the nurse I think it's better if I do the shots myself since he's nervous."
John nods. Martha says, "Bless you to pieces."
John leans over and whispers to Clark, "Clark, can you show Dr. Michael the sound a hawk makes?"
Clark screeches. Perfectly ear-shattering and sounding exactly like any number of scared toddlers that come into the practice on the regular.
Mickey punctures all the vaccines with syringes. Draws the medicine in, then pushes the plunger so the syringe empties into the sink.
"I hate to waste medicine," Martha says. "I'm sure there's a baby in town who needs it."
"Your baby needs it," Mickey replies, tossing all the syringes and vaccine bottles into the Sharps container. "I want to test him every time. If his skin gets permeable at some point, I want him as vaccinated as his records look."
"How will you cover that?" John asks.
"Let me worry about that," Mickey says. "We may never have to figure it out."
*
Years and years later, Mickey watches Superman fly across the Metropolis sky on the news, then watches Clark Kent land outside his parents' house for dinner. They never did have to figure it out.
As more and more people are being forced to switch to Windows 11, Microsoft's most AI-malware-ridden OS yet, I've been putting together articles and links for how to undo the damage and save your battery, your RAM, your disk space, your privacy, and your sanity from this bullshit.
FIRST:
The easiest way to get rid of the majority of the bullshit that Windows is forcing on us, as of October 2025, is this one-stop-one-click debloat solution from a modern day hero:
A simple, lightweight PowerShell script to remove pre-installed apps, disable telemetry, as well as perform various other changes to customi
It's very easy, even if you're not tech savvy or get scared of pop up windows saying "ARE YOU SURE?" Yes, you are sure, I promise. This program takes maybe two minutes and will save you SO MUCH pain, time, and money (and exploitation).
Now that you've done that, here's the cleanup, to catch the little shit that the debloat might have missed (most of this will already be done by debloat, but hey, it's good to double check).
Microsoft wants to put AI everywhere on your PC, but you can take back control.
Even just reading about some of these features makes me angry. Fucking Copilot and "Discover" AI scrapers are in Notepad. NOTEPAD. And then there's this uncanny valley garbage:
No uncanny valley video calls for me, thanks! (Also, what else is it doing while it scans your face and listens to your calls? What else, microsoft? Because there was a lot of memory being assigned to this program for a simple "smooths your skin" add on).
Tired of Microsoft pushing ads throughout Windows 11? Here are the settings you can tweak to turn them off and reclaim some privacy.
The truly insane number of places they have stuck ads on your own home computer is sickening. Become Unmarketable.
Bonus:
Some background programs you probably don't need that are taking up space and how to remove them (Microsoft forums, 2024)
Your Samsung Galaxy Phone comes with 22 apps you don't need (Android Police, 2025)
How to disable the AI in firefox (still the only browser that lets you do this permanently) (Windows Report, 2025)

āAre you the witch who turned eleven princes into swans?ā
The old woman stared at the figure on the front step of her cottage and considered her options. It was the kind of question usually backed up by a mob with meaningful torches, and the kind of question she tried to avoid.
Coming from a single dusty, tired housewife, it shouldāve held no terrors.
āYou a cop?ā
The housewife twisted the hem of her apron. āNo,ā she muttered. āIām a swan.ā
A raven croaked somewhere in the woods. Wind whispered in the autumn leaves.
Then: āI think I can guess,ā the old woman said slowly. āHusband stole your swan skin and forced you to marry him?ā
A nod.
āAnd you canāt turn back into a swan until you find your skin again.ā
A nod.
āBut I reckon heās hidden it, or burned it, or keeps it locked up so you canāt touch it.ā
A tiny, miserable nod.
āAnd then you hear that old Granny Rothbart who lives out in the woods is really a batty old witch whose father taught her how to turn princes into swans,ā the old woman sighed. āAnd you think, āHey, stuff the old skin, I can just turn into a swan again this way.ā
āBut even if that was true ā which I havenāt said if it is or if it isnāt ā Iād say that I can only do it to make people miserable. Iām an awful person. I canāt do it out of the goodness of my heart. I have no goodness. I canāt use magic to make you feel better. I only wish I could.ā
Another pause. āIf I was a witch,ā she added.
The housewife chewed the inside of her cheek. Then she drew herself up and, for the first time, looked the old woman in the eyes.
āCan you do it to make my husband miserable?ā
The old woman considered her options. Then she pulled the wand out from the umbrella stand by the door. It was long, and silver, and a tiny glass swan with open wings stood perched on the tip.
āI can work with that,ā said the witch.

I love AUs that make lies or misunderstandings true, so pray consider with me an AU where Laurence IS Emilyās bio dad. Maybe he met Jane after they were both involved in some action and then he finds himself tripping into some good old premarital sex and he canāt even REGRET it because sheās fierce and hard and when she tells him what to do itās really much easier to just do what she says. (We all know Sub Will is true I trust)
And they keep up a correspondence even while they canāt see eachother often and before Will knows it heās organizing his plans to court her and introduce her to his mother andā
Jane mentions the pregnancy offhandedly, with a complaint about the back pain this kid is already giving her and it had better be a girl, so help her.
Laurenceās brain fully crashes. Riley has to come check on him after a while and finds him having a nervous breakdown over course charting because now he has to find a way to get to Janeās covert before she has the baby (āI donāt even know how far along she is, Tom,ā he despairs, as if thatās the main point and not the fact that heās like three seconds away from either commandeering the whole ship or deserting his post.). If he just gets there before the baby comes he can convince her to get married (he has no illusions that he will have to convince her, but he was expecting to be able to have a long and amicable courtship to do so!!!)
Riley manages to convince him to talk to their commanding officer. Everyone is very understanding about needing to make sure the kid that comes is legitimate. Arrangements are made while Laurence is vibrating in the corner. He does manage to have the sense to send word ahead to Jane so heās not just bursting up to the covert doors and embarrassing her.
Convincing her to marry him is grueling. Jane genuinely doesnāt see the need to, but when he desperately points out that this way the baby will be able to visit his family openly and heāll be able to provide for her if something should happen to either of them, she does agreeāon the condition that heās not to be Weird About It and try to turn her into a Proper Wife and all that or make her move in with his family or something. And of course if the baby is a girl heās NOT going to interfere with her becoming Excidiumās captain in the future. Will is like yes okay I will come stay with you at the covert when Iām not on the sea just PLEASE marry me. My mother is already going to be upset that I couldnāt follow the thirty step courting plan we came up with I MUST give her the satisfaction of our at least being married before the babe comes. And Jane is like well thank god I donāt have to deal with a THIRTY STEP COURTING PLAN THEN.
Theyāre married in short order and Lady Allendale doesnāt chew Will out too much about getting a woman pregnant before theyāre married. Excidium is still a bit iffy about this whole marriage thing but he supposes that it at least makes more children more likely.
And Emily is born and Will immediately falls in love. Thatās his daughter!! His baby girl!! He goes back to his ship delirious with love.
And now come the complications such as: Will now knows information about the corps that a lot of people would really prefer he not know! They keep the Longwing captains secret for a reason, and hereās this duty bound Navy guy (derogatory) who could very well decide to get overprotective and block Emilyās future inheritance.
So Jane maybe. Doesnāt really tell anyone that it was a Navy man? And Will just kind of. Presents her as employed by the corps, so people assume sheās a maid or a cook on a covert. This is fine. Everything is fine! Whenever Willās ship docks he gets to visit his impressive wife and wonderful daughter and uh. Their dragon. Um. Heās still getting used to that part.
After the initial panic and Surge of Love passes Will does have to grapple with his own feelings about not only women serving in the army (which tbf heās been fairly chill about outwardly), but his daughter specifically serving. He compensates for this by teaching her as much about ships as he can. Look heās getting such a good grade in Treating His Daughter as An Officer, Jane!!
Jane: :\ Will are you trying to poach our daughter for the Navy
Will, who now has the thought in his head of getting to serve beside his kid: ā¦nnnno?
Itās all good natured though, and they continue in that holding pattern for years as Will moves up the ranks and then, well. The Amitie still happens. Willās name isnāt put in the lots due to his marriage, but the lots never really mattered in the first place. He still harnesses Temeraire. Thereās a good deal less initial fear involved, and Will is able to help mock up a better harness from the start, and he knows a little of how deep the bond between a dragon and their captain is. And he does tell Temeraire, quietly, that his wife is a captain to a dragon herself, and his daughter will be glad to meet him. (Emily is, delighted to have not just one aviator parent but two. Temeraire is glad to have her on his crew because he can at least trust that thereās someone else that values Laurence like he does. Also she is very good at washing his scales and curls up on his back while Laurence reads to them, so. He approves of this tiny child.)
Will, king of keeping his mouth shut for proprietyās sake, could mention these facts at any point to anyone else to smooth things over. He does not do this. Why would he. Heās pretty openly treating Emily as his daughter but like. Heās also doing the same with the other runners assigned to him. Probably the first anyone hears about it is because Harcourt is obviously wary of him giving her the proper respect, and so he quietly tries to reassure her.
āMy wife serves in the corps, and I would be a dreadful husband if I hadnāt learned to cope with her profession, especially considering my daughter will one day take her spot.ā
Harcourt connects several dots and says, a little too loud, āYouāre married to a Longwing Captain???ā
And everyone is like dude what the fuck why didnāt you mention this WHO are you married to
And Emily, who is present because Iāve decided sheās being a very Underfoot Child to her dad since she hasnāt seen him in a while, just kind of goes, āUh???ā And gestures between them. There is, the other aviators note with alarm, a semblance.
āJANE ROLAND?ā Someone says incredulously. āSHE MARRIED A NAVY MAN??ā
"You never complain about Stone Soup."
"I like Stone Soup," said the cow. "Stone Soup is an honest con. We get a meal, everyone thinks they've seen a little bit of magic, you sell the stone for a little bit of pocket money, you pick up another stone at the next town. Everyone gets something."
"And if I remember right, you were the one who suggested we steal the magic beans."
"That wasn't stealing, that was a legitimate trade."
"A legitimate trade for a talking cow that disappeared by morning?"
"He didn't even lock the barn! How is that my fault?" She huffed and laid her head onto her forelimbs. The stalk of grass in her lips wobbled with her scowl. "Old fool never knew what he had."
Jack hummed. He craned forward to get a better look into the tiny, cracked glass, pulled gently at the corner of his eye and delicately dabbed the makeup brush.
"My point is," said the cow, "this all seems rather - cruel."
Jack turned. One half of his face was magnificently painted in faerie shades of blues and violets. The other half was just confused. "What on earth are you talking about?"
"For gods' sake, Jack, this is a perfectly innocent girl who you plan on humiliating in front of the royal court."
"How would she be humiliated? As far as she'll know, she'll have a lovely time at a lovely ball in a lovely ballgown."
"You don't have a lovely ballgown!"
"Well I can't afford a ballgown, now can I?!"
"So you're going to make her waltz in her fucking underclothes?!"
He took a dramatic breath. "Look," he said, brandishing the makeup brush. "If it worked on the fucking emperor, it'll work on a fucking scullery maid. If she gets told by a fairy that she's wearing a fairy dress that can only be seen by intelligent people, she is going to believe like hell that she's wearing the very image of sartorial extravaganza."
The brush was masterfully twiddled. "And when everyone else finds out that she's wearing a fairy dress that can only be seen by intelligent people, there won't be a single person in that room who would dare to disagree."
The cow shook her head. "I don't know, Jack," she sighed. "I just don't know."
"It'll be fine," Jack said, turning back to the tiny glass and bringing a deft hand again on the canvas. "Trust me. How did you do finding the slippers?"
"Couldn't find crystal," said the cow. "Best I could get were a glass set from an elf down at the cobbler's."
Jack hummed. "Well, they shouldn't be that important. Nobody will look too closely at her shoes."
There were two guards at the palace gate, slabs of meat and muscle wrapped in candybright costumes. They looked every bit as solid as the iron gate between them, and looked like the kind of guard prepared for every kind of foolishness they'd see tonight.
They weren't prepared for the woman who stepped down from the cow-drawn wagon. Her slippers gleamed amber in the torchlight, and her dress was... It was...
Well, the fey who hung over her shoulder told them that her dress was a beautiful thing, spun from the glimmer of starlight, the sound of snowfall, and the colour of the moon. He said that any discerning gentleman could tell that this was true, and the guards agreed.
Neither of them had looked too closely at the dress. In fact, they had been trying to carefully, politely and inexplicably avert their gaze.
