When I am writing the dragon blorbos doing BDSM I always get really in my head at some point about the whole 'would he say that' issue of by necessity having to reference more extreme/outré/unpalatable-or-unfamiliar-to-modern-readers politics, ideologies and theories of the era than the source material is comfortable discussing, and then I reread BPW and get to the part where Tharkay sardonically calls the French revolution 'quixotic' for 'choosing to be unjust to the noble and rich instead of the common' and go NOPE! He would absolutely read and potentially say (albeit not necessarily mean) All That.
