even when the cold comes crashing through
chapter 1/?, aged-up characters, veteran player will and rookie mack, career ending injury, getting together codependency
They returned on the ice for the third period. Not even four minutes later, it all went truly to shit.
Mack was skating towards the net, his focus on the puck, when he saw Will being slammed into the boards by one of the Pen's defensemen. Skating forward, he eyed the man, waiting for Will to get up and skate away. However, Will stayed on the ice, unmoving.
Forgetting the puck, just letting it slip from his stick in a halfhearted attempt at shooting at the net, Mack immediately changed direction and skated towards the crease where Will was still lying on the ground. Mack could hear the referees stopping the game as they finally noticed something was wrong. Finally, he reached Will, falling on his knees next to his body, searching for any sign of injury.
āWill?ā Mack whispered, overwhelmed by the need to hold the man as close as possible but terrified of hurting him. With his shaking hands, he reached out and took Willās hand in his, squeezing his fingers around the glove.
