i personally like the idea that there are “covey” in other districts that are more influenced by other marginalized groups that have endured genocides and oppression. like district 12 would be melungeon and district 4 might be based on wandering irish refugees because of 4’s gaelic names and such. district 9’s might be based around plains native americans. ive seen people arguing about which one of these groups (and other ones like romani people) the covey is based off of and ive always thought it was a mix of several? i always thought of them as indigenous because i am indigenous but other people have perceived them in relation to other groups too. i think this is because all of us have similar experiences that come from holding onto our cultures and practices and beliefs while governments tried to bury us. we hold music and art dearly like the covey do. so i like the idea of being introduced to other kinds of “covey” people, maybe with different names and practices, that are more obviously influenced by different groups. i don’t really know how to organize my thoughts but i think about this all the time
