I can't believe how much I love these fools...
Bonus:
Hagiwara Riku and Yagi Yusei in Utsukushii Kare
@the-gail This is for you! It has been sitting in my drafts for almost a year because my original plan was to make a post for season 2 & the movie as well. But as this never happened, I am finally posting it. I hope you enjoy!
You know what time it is
🚨Rant incoming 🚨
So, I was sitting there, barbecue sauce on my titties, and decided to writing a little something, something. So grab a strong beverage and sit down, because we need to talk about the absolute masterclass we've been served this year.
The Thai GL/BL industry didn't just drop some romance shows, they collectively looked at the scriptwriting handbook and decided to rewrite the entire standard.
If we are talking about great writing, immaculate pacing, and chemistry that could actively power a small city, four specific shows have completely stolen the crown (for me) : Duang With You, Girl Rules, Love of Silom, and Love You Teacher.
Let’s dissect why these four are the absolute pinnacles of representation and storytelling for me specifically, this year.
The following will be written in a analytical fashion for a cohesive and coherent discussion.
✨️ The Big Four: Script and Soul✨️
✨️Duang With You: The Purity of Deep Devotion✨️
Domundi completely captured lightning in a bottle with TeeTee and Por .
The core of this shows writing is an absolute love letter to young love and deep, unwavering devotion.
When Duang boldly tells the icy, reserved Qin at Loy Krathong that he isn't asking for permission to love him, just letting him know it's happening, that is elite romantic writing.
The pacing is a gorgeous, intentional slow burn.
Instead of rushing them into a relationship, the script allows us to watch Duang gradually melt Qins defenses through pure, unconditional support.
✨️The Chemistry✨️
TeeTee and Por have this completely effortless, magnetic screen presence.
It's a classic ☀️🌧sunshine meets grump☀️🌧 dynamic, but played with so much sincerity that you find yourself grinning like an idiot at the screen.
✨️The Messaging and Supporting Cast✨️
The show tells us that love doesn't have to be dramatic or toxic to be deeply profound.
Supported flawlessly by Jamie and Pae, who provide the ultimate ride-or-die best friend energy, the series reminds us how beautiful it is when there is someone you can lean on.
✨️Girl Rules: Unapologetic Sapphic Brilliance✨️
Fresh off its finale, Girl Rules is hands down one of the most culturally significant gl we have ever received. (For me specifically)
The writing here manages to seamlessly juggle three distinct pairings (NamtanFilm, MilkLove, and ViewMim) while delivering an authentic portrait of sapphic sisterhood and unapologetic lesbian life in the big city.
Set against the cutthroat backdrop of the fashion industry, the show completely ditches the tired, watered down tropes. We get women who are ambitious, flawed, deeply passionate, and fiercely protective of one another.
The pacing is snappy, glamorous, and electric, perfectly mirroring the pulse of Bangkok.
✨️The Chemistry✨️
The chemistry across the board is blinding.
Whether it's the heavy emotional history and lingering glances between Prim and Bambi, Shasha aggressively chasing a stylist who plays hard to get, or the tender, eye opening romance between Min and Praew, the intimacy feels real, raw, and electric.
✨️The Messaging✨️
The core message is clear :
queer women do not need to shrink themselves to fit into a straight world.
They own their space, their careers, and their desires.
The supporting sisterhood between these six women is the true backbone of the show, proving that our community is our ultimate safety net.
✨️Love of Silom: The Heavy Weight of Reality✨️
Love of Silom is currently tearing our hearts out week by week , and that is entirely due to its razor sharp writing on class differences and societal pressure.
The contrast between Wayu (who has to drop out of university to work at a Silom nightclub to pay off family debt) and Krit, who is trapped under the crushing weight of a traditional, conservative family, is spectacular.
The script tackles the grim, heavy realities of socioeconomic divides without turning it into a cheap melodrama.
The pacing builds beautifully, letting their worlds collide slowly until they are entirely intertwined.
✨️The Chemistry✨️
Up and Poom are giving us an absolute masterclass.
Their chemistry isn't just fluffy romance, it's a desperate, magnetic pull between two people who find their safe haven in each other.
✨️The Messaging and Supporting Cast✨️
The show does a phenomenal job highlighting the different facets of societal oppression, financial desperation on one side, and the stifling closet of familial expectation on the other.
With an incredible supporting cast at the Moonlight Bar providing a chosen family dynamic, it highlights that love sometimes requires fighting the entire world just to exist.
✨️Love You Teacher: When Love Stops Feeling Equal✨️
GMM threw a massive emotional curveball with this one, and it might just be the most profoundly moving script of the year.
It bravely explores a territory most romances are terrified to touch:
what happens when you stay with someone when love stops being and feeling equal?
When Solar gets into a serious accident and begins mentally functioning like a seven year old child, Pobmeks world shatters.
The writing shifts from a standard romance into a devastatingly beautiful, nuanced exploration of love morphing into caregiving.
The pacing is incredibly deliberate, forcing the audience to sit in the heavy, complicated grief of losing the partner you knew, while still fiercely loving the person in front of you.
✨️The Chemistry✨️
Perth and Santa delivered career defining performances.
The shift from their initial equal partner dynamic to the heartbreakingly tender caregiver relationship requires immense acting maturity, and their connection anchors every single heavy scene.
✨️The Messaging and Supporting Cast✨️
Supported beautifully by Sodchuen and Jee, the show delivers a profound message about the reality of 🌟in sickness and in health.🌟
It addresses the guilt, the exhaustion, and the absolute depth of human devotion, reminding us that true queer love is resilient enough to handle lifes most unfair tragedies.
✨️A standing ovation for the hands that build our stories✨️
This is where we drop the critical analysis and offer a massive, tearful thank you to the brilliant minds making this possible.
🥂To the out Queer visionaries🥂
To the out and proud actors, actresses, directors, and crew members behind these four masterpieces, thank you.
It takes immense courage to live openly in an industry that scrutinizes your every move. By bringing your lived experiences into the writers rooms, onto the directors chairs, and onto the screen, you are giving us representation that isn't just accurate, it's soulful.
You are creating a blueprint for queer joy and success, proving that our narratives deserve high budget production, prime time slots, and critical acclaim.
🥂To the allies handling our stories with dignity🥂
And to the straight actors or those who choose to keep their private lives private, the respect, nuance, and absolute dedication you have brought to these four shows is breathtaking.
You didn't treat these complex roles like a casual career stepping stone or a caricature. You dived headfirst into the deepest, most vulnerable parts of queer hope, agonizing pain, societal anger, and soul-shattering love.
You handled our communitys heart with the dignity it deserves, and we see that effort.
✨️A note on the creators✨️
To the screenwriters who wrote lines that will live rent free in my head for the next decade, the directors who know exactly how to use lighting to frame a heartbreaking realization, and the editors who cut the scenes to match the exact beat of our racing hearts, thank you for the ✨️emotional damage.✨️
Years ago, we had to survive on the crumbs of tragic sub plots and ambiguous handshakes.
In 2026? We have multi dimensional queer leads navigating complex class systems, surviving tragic life shifts, owning major city fashion spaces, and falling in love with a depth that leaves us breathless.
Digital hugssssss!
Happy Pride Month to the Thai industry for keeping us thoroughly fed, deeply moved, and permanently obsessed!
And happy pride month to all of us as well.
The Rasa Pair Tag Game
This game was thought up by @siathawisit but it made me so excited I had to kick it off asap!!
Rules: The rasas are South Asian aesthetic categories that remain influential in the regions dramas and art (read more on the wikipedia article here). Literally, it’s the dominant “flavor” of a work or performance. For the game, pick a pair that represents each rasa to you. You can choose whether you want to do CP pairings or just characters. No need to explain unless you feel like it. Then tag 5 friends to find out their flavors of love.
Sringara (शृङ्गारः): Romance, Love, Beauty, Eroticism
The prettiest couple hitting every romantic melodrama note perfectly. Pearlpeak have those yaoi proportions to sell them to the BL crowd but the kind of breathless performances to make the sappiest most familiar plot-lines feel revelatory and astoundingly sensual.
Hasya (हास्यं): Laughter, Mirth, Comedy
Gone but not forgotten. Whether in 2gether or Tonhon Chonlatee, they were always wonderful and welcome goobers #mygoobers
Raudram (रौद्रं): Fury, Anger
Whether Daou is tearing a new one for rude and invasive people on the Internet or Offroad is giving him that piercing glance from the side of the stage when he’s crossed a line, this pair knows exactly how to channel their anger, and they can make it so damn compelling on screen. They are a lesson in how anger can play a meaningful part in love—protectiveness, possessiveness, power play, and more. You’ll want someone to be angry with you after you spend time with DaouOffroad.
Karuṇā (करुणा): Compassion, Mercy, Spiritual Longing, Sorrow
No pair has managed to convey such desperate soul-searching in multiple roles, and even their CP brand is laced with a kind of pessimism unlike any other pairing (40 fans and a divorce era). They just hurt so good.
Bībhatsa (बीभत्सं): Disgust, Aversion, Repulsion
I wanted to pick a CP from the early days of sex comedy BLs like Make It Right, but I don’t know much about the koojin brand outside of the shows and they were all lacking in gifs (but NiceAof, know that I thought about Lukmo falling for the smell of Yok’s bowel movements in MIR!). SurfJava on screen and off are giving the old boyish shenanigans, though. Their love-language seems like fart jokes and Tom and Jerry cartoon violence. They’d call each other slurs as an insult and a term of endearment.
Bhayanaka (भयानकं): Horror, Terror, Overwhelm
Really this award should just go to Bible on his own. His partners just have to deal with the malevolent aura his persona comes with (although he seems like a perfectly nice guy!). I just don't think it's a Bible series until he has blood on his face tbh. Luckily, Jes has been more than game for embracing the avant-dark side. His costumes the past two halloweens were beetlejuice and the joker. Meanwhile, Bible just did a live while sharpening his personal knife collection. I rest my case.
Vīram (वीरं): Heroism, Energy, Adventure
MaxTul are forerunners, game-changers, bold, brash, advocates, the list goes on, and fit enough to do their own stunts if they wanted. Even their proposals have an little extra dose of adventure.
Adbhutam (अद्भुतं): Awe, Wonder, Amazement
DMD in general likes to brand on a pretty seme who stays in constant awe of a beautiful uke—no complaints! But Keng and Namping take the other-worldly wonder to another level. They both have an aura of perfect composure, and the slow-mo and multiple lives (all the way back to time immemorial) storyline throughout khemjira certainly built on how majestic can appear. Watching them, you feel like you’re watching two heavenly creatures wrap their wings around each other.
Santam (शान्तरस): Peace, Tranquility, Calm
Perhaps it's being in the cast of chaos around them that BeverTonliew seem especially pacific in comparison. Still, their characters and their fanservice have a steady and steadfast quality to them, quiet but adoring. We all adore the friction-filled sparks and drama of Elizabeth Bennett and Darcy, but what about the subtle longings of Anne Elliott and Wentworth or Fanny Price and Edmund? It takes special kinds of actors to bring the tranquil love of shy and virtuous romantic leads to life as compellingly as Bever and Tonliew did.
No pressure tags: @befuddledcinnamonroll @williamrikers @ginnymoonbeam @doublel27 @paulinamakes and @siathawisit
Here’s the list in an easy copy-paste format: 1. Sringara (शृङ्गारः): Romance, Love, Beauty, Eroticism 2. Hasya (हास्यं): Laughter, Mirth, Comedy 3. Raudram (रौद्रं): Fury, Anger 4. Karuṇā (करुणा): Compassion, Mercy, Spiritual Longing, Sorrow 5. Bībhatsa (बीभत्सं): Disgust, Aversion, Repulsion 6. Bhayanaka (भयानकं): Horror, Terror, Overwhelm 7. Vīram (वीरं): Heroism, Energy, Adventure 8. Adbhutam (अद्भुतं): Awe, Wonder, Amazement 9. Santam (शान्तरस): Peace, Tranquility, Calm
Hehe my influence.
This is just meant as an exercise in thinking with different aesthetic categories. If anyone wants an overview of how the theory actually works in Sanskrit poetics/dramaturgy, here's a good overview:
I think this is a useful paradigm to keep in mind while watching more lakorn-styled Thai series. The actual transmission of these ideas is a little complicated and I won't bore you with that, but this is ultimately the sort of thing that all that melodrama is aimed at -- not a false representation of reality but an emotional experience more intense than the muddle of daily life.
A nice demonstration by a Kathak performer where you can feel the resonances with the soap operatic style.
Happy pride month my peeps!! (Why the fuck are we half way thru the year already?)

Your post about being happy that there are so many queer media to watch nowadays, even the bad ones is just spot on. I live in a homophobic country and I'm still in the closet at 25. so imagine growing up, discovering yourself, being so afraid and then have all the queer content you find end with the characters dying, being laughed at, or reduced to harmful stereotypes. because what did that mean for silly young closeted me?
But now?
Now I'm thriving, i get to experience queer love, queer joy, even queer dumbassery lmao. These reminders, despite still feeling stuck, constantly show me how other queer people are moving forward and living their lives—and it's beautiful, even the trashy ones (which always are the most fun to watch)
So thank you for your post. It’s a reminder that our stories matter, no matter how imperfect!
Anon, although I live in the United States, I have always lived in a super conservative county where the town clerk refuses to issue marriage licenses to queer couples (and sometimes people of color depending on the day). We have billboards coming into town telling everyone they are going to hell and compared to all my friends in bigger cities who had to wait for the COVID vaccine, I got mine in 2020 when they were mostly only available to medical staff because the medical staff at our hospital refused to get it because Trump told them not to or some shit, so the local pharmacy begged anyone to get the shot before they expired. For a long time, my town refused to let cable or internet companies come in because then we would be exposed to sinful media.
But I ain't moving!
So although I haven't lived your experience, I feel ya.
Which is why I love all the discourse about QLs. If someone loves a show, I want to see why. If someone hates a show, I want to hear all about it. Because for so long, I had NOTHING! I was looking at the bible in Catholic school like . . . "Judas, you could've just told Jesus you wanted him instead of doing all this" *sign of the cross* and we all know how that ended for both of them.
Now, I'm trying to figure out where to find the time to watch all that is being offered to me! I can be picky now! I can dislike a show without feeling like ALL queer content will be taken away from me. I can get characters giving hand jobs, rim jobs, and blow jobs without having to pay-for-view at 1 am praying that the volume stays low.
I have watched some of the worst imaginable queer content, and I have watched queer porn with a plot which has smacked, and not just literally *wink*. I have watched so many queers be buried in ways that people cannot even begin to fathom. I have seen more than my fair share of queer media, and I can say without a doubt that these BLs are giving us some of the best variety of queers I have ever seen, and regardless if they are true to the queer experience (Dinosaur Love, I'm looking at your wild ass), two men holding hands is really fucking queer to these homophobes regardless of the plot. Two men cuddling in bed is super queer to these homophobes regardless of how aligned it is with the queer experience. Two women kissing is giving a homophobe a heart attack right now!
Century of Love had homophobic crew members. Those people got a paycheck for filming a BL while tweeting homophobic comments. Homophobia doesn't magically go away because we have queer content, which is a truth you and I know, but it gives me tiny pleasure knowing that 1) the show is airing on a popular-ish Thai channel in a prime-time slot, and 2) homophobes had to film two men kissing, multiple times. If we can't beat (the fuck out of) them, at least we made them feel super uncomfortable for even a teeny tiny bit.
And that's the other half of this - Not only do we get to consume all of this, but others are being exposed to it. These shows are airing in their countries ON TV. These actors are being shown in ads on TV and doing spreads for magazines. So while my town has billboards telling us to seek Jesus or perish in the fires of hell, Apo and Mile are eating Lay's on a billboard somewhere in Thailand.
Because this isn't just about the queers watching but about the homophobes and even the in-betweens witnessing it.
Give me all the trashy series (Dinosaur Love, still looking at you)! Give me the series that have absolutely no plot except two boys holding hands. GIVE ME EVERYTHING! Because no matter what I get, I guarantee it is pissing off some grandpappy somewhere, and that's really the queer experience; pissing people off for not only existing, but having the audacity to thrive despite it all.
So thrive, QL Land, THRIVE!
Not me crying reading this.
"everyone should get more aromantic" can appeal to tumblr's sensibilities but I genuinely think everyone should also get more asexual. I don't mean everyone stop having sex, what I mean is
Sex is not essential. You can live without it. Full stop.
Not having sex isn't shameful or a sign of failure. It also doesn't make anyone boring.
You are not entitled to having sex with anybody and nobody is entitled to having sex with you.
Sex is not what makes someone an adult.
Nobody's worth is defined by how much sex they have or don't have.
Sex is not equally important to everyone.
You can have fulfilling and happy relationships without sex.
You should only have sex on your own terms, not because you feel like you owe it to someone, or because you feel like you'd be incomplete without it.
Know your boundaries around sex and be firm about them. Know how to respect other people's boundaries.
The previous point also applies when it comes to discussing sex. If someone doesn't wanna talk about it or hear about it you have to back down.
Anything can be sexual but not everything has to be sexual.
happy pride y'all! just remember you can't spell pride month without demon
Somehow I am having issues with Scent‘s motivation for doing what he did to Gaysorn. And I am not sure if I missed or misunderstood something.
So this is an open question and I would be happy to get answers!
His uncle‘s motivation is clear - it‘s greed. But I don’t see greed being Scent‘s motivation for wanting to make a perfume of Gaysorn‘s scent. It’s something something about his dad being sick. But what exactly?
Gaysorn accepted the explanation that they had hoped the condition of Scent‘s dad would improve if he smelled the happiness-inducing scent. What hurt him was to learn that Scent wanted to gain money and commercialize his scent. But what exactly was Scent trying to achieve? Was he hoping to pay a miracle doctor for his dad? Or was he hoping his dad‘s condition would miraculously improve if he fulfilled his dream for him?
Scent knew what he was doing to Gaysorn was wrong but he did it anyway. And he did it although he was obviously falling in love with Gaysorn. In comparison Scent‘s motivation seems somehow… weak? Or not well established and explained in the context of the story? Or did I miss something?
I would be happy to read people's thoughts ❤️

Really compelled by the mention of bats in Ticket to Heaven. It’s the first time I recall these animals being noted in Thai BL outside of the vampire shows. Then, Barth and Tanrak waking up in the pool filmed upside down struck me as such an intentional choice. We could say it simply shows their world turned upside-down, but as Courtney Love says “I’m always looking for the quadruple entendre.” St. Bartholomew, some traditions hold, after being flayed alive was crucified upside down. What better reason to look at all the layers here from some different angles?
I first thought about how it emphasized the differences between them and the crowd that found them—those above with the heavens behind them and those underground, absent of the water that ought to have been here to bless or baptize them. They’re in the depths of something more like hell, trapped there by another’s cruelty, and judged for even the implication of homosexuality. The upside down framing draws a parallel to the bats they were trying to avoid, and when I checked, the stairway to heaven painting in the series in fact features demons with bat wings.
Thank you @telomeke for screenshotting!
Bats in Western Christian symbolism became associated with darkness, desolation, and uncleanliness. In Leviticus and Deuteronomy, they’re listed as unclean birds not to be eaten. Origen (one of the queerer Church fathers) associated heretics with bats, and Satan himself started to receive bat wings around the 1300s (see this great write-up about the history of bats and dragons in Christian rhetoric). As recently as 2020, the Pope used them to refer to sinners, “When we are in a state of sin, we are like ‘human bats’ who can move about only at night. We find it easier to live in darkness because the light reveals to us what we do not want to see. But then our eyes grow accustomed to darkness and we no longer recognise the light.” These are the malevolent creatures of the shadows.
In Thai traditions, however, bats can be symbols of good fortune, longevity, beauty, and, along the lines of some Indian beliefs, even sacredness. In Chinese traditions, which have influenced Thai culture and Aof Noppharnach who depicts his Thai-Chinese heritage often, the word for bat (“fu”) is a homonym for the word “luck,” leading to a ubiquity of their positive depiction in art, even more common than dragons. Bats are not without their curses and annoyances (shitting on your sleeping spots is mentioned in the first study just as it is in the series lol), but they are positive parts of the world that show a natural world in balance.
These Eastern and Western cultural traditions around bats are upside down from one another. And if we go back to the staircase Barth and Tanrak are standing below and flip it upside down, we can see the bat-winged creatures alongside Barth and Tanrak hanging from the ceiling, already in a heaven of their own on earth; a red world, not the red of evil, but maybe the red of love and good fortune. (perhaps even the red of Thai democracy?) Not below anything, but a part of.
Had a replies conversation with @motanghulu and it helped me put some thoughts in order.
Wayu is being a little stupid about this whirlwind romance with Krit. He's not naive to the realities of the world, but he's also not had a chance to do much being in the world, because he's had to take on so much responsibility so young.
He's not used to good things happening, so he's holding onto this very good thing very tightly, and making some decisions that are maybe not so smart (moving in to Krit's condo/leaving Singto, not being more pissed off after the kiss stunt at Moonlit, pretty much everything with the informant thing), but he's just trying to keep the good thing! Maybe the best thing that's ever happened to him, actually.
And he's doing all this while not quite trusting it to last. He doesn't want to quit his job, because he doesn't want to rely on someone else's money, and he doesn't want to leave the family he's found at work -- he knows he needs more people in his life than just Krit. He's being a little dumb, but he isn't actually dumb.
And then there's Krit.
Krit is not used to having anything that's really his -- not even his dreams. He thought he had that with Pete, and Pete's ambitions meant that the secrecy Krit needed was a shared need. But then it wasn't, and Pete wasn't the partner Krit thought he had, and so he spent years without a romantic partner, putting his whole focus on a career he didn't even want for himself, and not even thinking about what he might want.
Enter, Wayu.
And all of a sudden, Krit wants. And even better, be can have. So he lets himself want Wayu, and starts putting some of his focus on keeping Wayu happy and in his life. He goes all in on caring for Wayu and Singto, he spends a lot of money and time and worry.
And he makes some stupid decisions (the kiss stunt at Moonlit, the moving in/leaving Singto thing, kissing his boyfriend in the alley he knows the police are watching).
But Krit is insecure, he's afraid to lose Wayu, and that insecurity breeds anxiety, which leads to those stupid, impulsive decisions.
But Wayu had always been honest about what he wants from Krit, and what he wants is actions that show they're in this thing together, not a car or an expensive gift; just time and communication.
So Krit's doing what he can to give Wayu what he needs -- apologizing to Foei and supporting Wayu and his friends to show him that he understands how important they are to him; finding Wai; finding a way to tell the world he loves Wayu, even if he can't totally come out yet.
He's putting in the work, because he finally has a dream of his own.
So yes, they're both stupid. But it's the love that's making them stupid. Hopefully, that love will also be the thing that gets them through the upcoming disasters, and lets them have that life together that they both want.
Very unpopular fandom opinion n2:
The reason all those Chinese production companies are experimenting with AI actors is because giant fandoms do not seem to give a hoot about story, acting or really anything except how perfect their fave looks and how much screen time they have. With that mindset, what can be more perfect than AI nonsense with no other actors to compete with the chosen one and the story quality is immaterial.
Very unpopular fandom opinion n3:
Kdramas were better prior to 2017 and no good after 2024 and it’s part western streaming and part Puritan fandoms.
Number 3a:
The reason people view fandom as morality is because it’s easier to try to achieve virtues thru entertainment choice than actually do something in real life.

Just a teeny tiny bit obsessed with whatever Fake Fact Lips does to the scene when the boys are feeling their feelings.
Because it makes it feel like we are fish seeing them through water like in the ending credits.
And I think that's cool because episode one and two didn't feature a fish tank in Ryo's apartment between the couch and the table.
So maybe they will get one, but for now, we are the fish peacefully observing these two admit they are in love.
