The house is dark when he enters, a deep seeded regret hugging at his stomach as he passes through the threshold hold
At first there is silence, a heavy, heated silence that reeks of beer and cigarettes. The only light on in the house is the living room lamp, a kind shade of honey yellow— the color lies to him…a dark, unapproachable black creeps in and bleeds everywhere by the spot light.
Someone who shouldn’t be, is awake.
As he passes through the kitchen; stains from the spilled tea and glass shards still linger in their grout, lying in wait for someone’s unsuspecting bare feet. He can hear the crunch of his boots as they pass, grounding the shards deeper and deeper into the body of the house.
He holds his breath, slowly walking into the living room, terrified no matter who is awake…either away it breeds trouble. The tv is all static, just a low hum and black and grey floaters in the background of his watery mind, growing in the regret of coming home at all.
There’s homework on the table, abandoned colored pencils and a calculator thrown to ground and forgotten about in a hurry. There’s a backpack, dumped out and thrown across the room…a drawing of sunflowers torn to shreds around him; padding this cage they call
Home.
To his left, on the only couch not covered in stains, is his little brother, curled up in a small ball. His breath has evened out and normally electric, scared brown eyes are hidden behind black and blue patches the size of an adults fist. On the coffee table, amongst the mess of schoolwork and rage, sits a glass of half drunk water and two biscuits, untouched, on mum’s favorite chipped china.
The one with the blue bells.
He takes a soft step forward and kneels down to Simon’s height. One of mums good throw pillows, one a grandmother whom they never have and never will meet, cushions poor Simon’s head. His blonde curls are pushed back, as if someone pet him to sleep.
He looks peaceful, far and away in a dream hopefully more sunny than the living room lamp.
His arm looks weird; some fingers bent in the wrong direction, his limp wrist is red and swollen, used as pillow, and cradled by his other hand for protection.
There are tear tracks staining freckled cheeks and a cut around his mouth.
Tommy looks behind him, his parent’s door is open, hollow like an open mouth bearing its fangs, but no one is home. The bed is unmade but untouched. Looking around, his mums sandals and his father sneakers are gone from the mat by the door. If he looked close enough, which he will later, is the envelope stuffed with cash.
Tommy’s heavy, exhausted sigh stirs the youngest Riley, only one eye is capable of opening probably and even then it’s a small enough crack that Tommy can see the red in his eyes.
“Hey kiddo,” Tommy sighs, settling on the floor properly sit beside him. “alright?”
The seven year old nods sleepily, curling into himself more, eyes fluttering with sleep.
“Stay awake for me, kid.”
But Simon’s heavy eyes betray him, thick, wet-heavy lashes settle delicious bruised cheeks.
Tommy stands, moving towards the kitchen and grabs the envelope incased in his mother’s loopy handwriting.
‘Tom,
For you and Si, see you soon.’
After briefly riffling through it, there’s 500 pounds for them to…use? Give to Roba? Spend? Tommy frustratedly throws the cash on the dining room table with a sickening thump and runs shaking hands through his buzz cut.
“Right.” Tommy grabs his phone, pressing the only speed dial number there would be. It rings for not even a full chime when the man behind the phone chuckles.
“And what can I do for you, hmm?”
“I…I need help. And you know I wouldn’t call if it wasn’t an absolute necessity—“
“Be there in 30.”
The line disconnects before he has a chance to thank him again.
The silence is heavy, thick with anxiety and Tommy’s eyes wonder back into the living room, at the mess left for him to clean up— to pick up the pieces of a broken family he didn’t want to be putting back together. A family he tried to prevent Simon from coming into.
A house, whose lineage is sullied by the Riley name and drowning in debt and the stale hoop of Tesco brand beer.
A place Tommy left to leave behind.
To forget , even if it meant abandoning Si—
The kitchen is cleaned; mold-crusted dishes and take away containers thrown away, the fridge completely cleared and soaked in bleach, even the glass removed from the grout.
As he sorts Simon’s actual homework and drawings no therapist should ever see, the door opens and heavy, purposefully loud boots make the old tiles wince with their weight.
“Thomas.” The gruff voice calls out and Tommy jumps to his feet, meeting the voice between rooms.
“Price, I’m sorry—“
“Apologize again and I’ll make you do laps around Piccadilly Circus.” The mutton chops grin, grey tinted whiskers shake as a laugh bubbles in his throat.
“So, where’s the tot?” Tommy nods and leads the captain back into living room. There’s another light on, his parents and Simon’s bedroom door shut and locked, and any evidence of blood has been scrubbed from the carpet below Simon.
“Hmm.” John Price steps forward, kneels beside the couch just as Tommy had done nearly an hour earlier. His soft, calloused hands move his little brother enough that he can see the turn to his wrist, the finger prints painted to pale skin.
They turn to look at each other and a pitiful, anguished expression is not what Tommy finds when they meet; a deep, justice filled rage burns brighter than his father’s cigarettes. “Medics owe me a favor,” Price grunts as he stands, shaking out the crack in his knees. “Then you and I can talk about housing.”
“Thank you.”
“How much did they give you?”
“Five hundred.”
“It will have to do,” Tommy hands Price the envelope and watches as the old fart licks his dirty thumb and flips through each bill. “Go on then, grab the little bugger.”
Tommy turns and leans down, grabbing his brother off the couch and into his arms, mindful of the arm and the bruising on his side. The seven year old collapses into him easily, tiny arms wrap around his neck as much as they can and Simon’s head rests in the crook of Tommy neck, just like it did he was a baby.
He fit perfectly.
“Where…where Tom?” Simon croaks tiredly, settling into Tommy’s arms, gently tugging on the collar of his uniform shirt.
“You’re gonna stay with me for a while. For… for a long while, kid.”
Price pretends not to listen, pretends not to see the way Tommy’s arms tighten just a little bit more as they walk down the crooked stairs, the way Tommy presses a kiss to Simon’s hair when he’s placed in the back seat.
Price focuses on the road, soft music playing in the background as they drive.

making friends via fandom is inherently hilarious because in many ways it's like a regular friendship and sometimes you'll share stuff that's going on in your lives and offer support and talk about food or pets or random cultural stuff because you live on opposite sides of the damn planet, but also some of your interactions are like "hello beloved friend whom I cherish deeply, I have brought you a deceptively platonic gift of lovingly crafted star wars porn"

For requests, what about Soap dropping someone be it fellow soldier or civilian, just slipping from his fingers, could happen to anyone etc, but he blames himself for not being strong enough 😈 bonus points if 141 are like 🤨 soap you can literally bench press all of us wtf is this self hate coming from
The first time it wasn’t a big deal
“Ghost! I cannae hold on!”
“Drop me, Sargent! That’s an order!”
Soap let go, painfully aware of the bleeding in his bicep and watched as Ghost’s limp, ghoulish body tumble down the steep hill and into the murky ravine below.
After a week in each in medical, Ghost roughly knocked Soap’s bad arm, smirking at the flinch and hiss of pain.
“Better shape up, Sargent. Don’t want a repeat incident.”
A dark shadow of doubt settles over Johnny; his mind clouded by imagines of Simon grunting in pain, steeling his body to cover Johnny while he was already down and trying to reload. He remembers the horrible taste of metal in his mouth when Ghost slumped against him.
He remembers the horrid , somber tone of Price, asking if Ghost was KIA.
Ghost playfully nudges him again and turns, parting the sea of soldiers as he makes his way towards Price’s office. The soldiers clustered in the hall move for him, pressing themselves closer to the painted over brick walls, watching in awe at Ghost’s sheer masculinity. A week ago he had four new bullet wounds in his chest, infected by swamp water, and now he lives up to the hellish nightmares his callsign produced; even though Soap dropped him, Ghost continues to rise from the dead.
That also, unfortunately, means the rumors of Soap’s negligence have named him a traitor, selfish , and, the one he’s heard the most, weak.
He wouldn’t drop another teammate.
And he meant it; that’s how Ghost finds him in the gym, 2:07 A.M flashes above him in haunting red lights. It’s quiet except for him, the heavy motion sensor door is propped up with weights as to not lock him in. Ghost steps in, his own insomnia keeping him up with flashes of Johnny’s terrified face, his trembling voice begging Ghost not to let go…
Towards the back of the gym is the man his nightmares won’t allow him to forget; strangled grunts and a whimper, Ghost saves for himself, leads him to the weights. Johnny stands at the mirror, pulling 150 lbs in a grab-and-pull method, his sleep shirt, one of Gaz’s old police academy shirts, is drenched in sweat, the once heather red now fully grey.
Ghost watches from the sidelines, hiding between machines to watch as Johnny works himself into another fit of frustration when his arms begin to tremble and they can’t keep up the pulling motion. Ghost watches as Johnny angrily throws the weight down, creating a small dent in the concrete flooring below them. His breath is labored, hands slippery and shaking, fail to open his water bottle, and with more frustration, he throws that too.
Ghost slowly retreats, leaving Soap to his demons and whatever evil nightmares his brain has created.
He’ll check on him in the morning.
The second time it happens, there’s a write up.
Soap was trying to prove himself; he knew it, Price knew it, and Gaz suffered the consequences.
They were stationed in Germany, helping their friends exterminate two underground human trafficking rings and bring British, Scottish and Irish prisoners back home.
They’d been on lookout for days, waiting for when the next round of “shipment” was to come in; intel was shotty at best, Laswell was fighting red tape wherever she could but almost everything had to be done through the German Government.
It was day 19 and they were finally seeing some real action…and Gaz was alone.
On the top floor of the three level compound was a balcony that overlooked the German mountains; it was small, barely big enough for one person, but sources said most of the time it was so the “cargo” could get sunshine without fully leaving.
Soap follows after Gaz, he’s a floor below and pushing himself further than his body is capable of going but Gaz was right above him, fighting the boss herself, trying to capture instead of kill. He could hear the sounds of the struggle on their continuous comms (it wasn’t used often but when the team was split up by floor it was helpful). He could hear Price and General Von Goethe calling for him, asking for an update, but he ignores them.
Soap can hear the Madame and Kyle fight over custody of the gun, which only pushes him to run faster.
What he comes up to is much worse; Kyle is bent almost fully over the edge of the balcony, only his knees to keep him from fully falling off and the Madame has his legs, teasing him over the side, gun long forgotten.
“Soap?! Status now!” Price demands but Soap quiets the mic. Without thinking, he shoots, luckily getting rid of the target but Kyle begins to fall. Soap is quick to kick the body away and grab onto Gaz’s boot, trying to pull him back onto the steel platform.
“I got you!” Soap cries out, using the last of his strength to pull when there is a sharp pain in his side. The Madame jumps on him, wrestling to dig the knife deeper into his side. Soap’s grip loosens once again and Kyle manages to flip himself some so he’s now hanging on by his hands but the Madame works quick, digging the knife in before yanking it out and wielding it above her head, ready to kill Johnny for good.
“Soap! Watch—“
Soap doges , tackling the woman to the ground, the wrestle for a moment , her hands finding purchase on his open wound and digs coffin shaped nails into inflamed flesh. Johnny grunts, biting back and agonizing groan but manages to over power her, taking the forgotten gun and ending her rein of terror.
“Sargent that’s an order. Where are you?!”
With the Madame taken care of Soap slumps to the side, heavy, labored breaths escape him as he tries to reason that taking the knife out is better than leaving it in.
It’s Gaz’s tired, pained gasps that snaps him back to reality and fear settles in.
Soap is quick to move, with slippery hands he grabs at Kyle, trying to gain a grip on any dry part of him.
“Gaz! G-Gaz! I cannae— fuck! I cannae hold on!”
“Soap— soap please!”
“Fuck— I cann—NO!”
Gaz had two broken legs and a concussion to thank for Johnny’s negligence.
As they wheeled him off, Ghost comes up behind Johnny, a somber smile pulls at his stubbly lips.
“Could’a been worse…could’a died.”
He knows Ghost is trying to help, trying to keep whatever peace can be salvaged but Johnny has failed, again.
“Fuck off Ghost.” He mutters, moving to turn down the hall, back to lick his wounds in his private room but Ghost’s beefy arm stops him, gently grabbing at his bicep to pull him back.
“Try that again.”
“Fuck. Off. Sir.” Soap spits and yanks his arm out of Ghost's hold, storming away, down the hall, ignoring the echo of Simon’s worried voice.
It’s late when Price finds him, tucked into the farthest corner of the common room; he sits pitifully at the small desk in the corner, head bowed, shoulders hunched, and his face, hidden in trembling hands.
With soft footfalls, the captain makes his way over, his cigar burning a red glow into the dark, gloomy room. He sits beside him, spreading out so his mucked up boots rest on the arm rest of Soaps chair.
“Come on, son. What’s on your mind?”
Soap doesn’t answer, just curls in on himself further, pushing away whatever shred of kindness Price thinks he deserves.
And price, the persistent bastard he is, pushes.
“You know…back when I was a lieutenant, long before I met that old boyfriend of yours, I was like you; strong willed, cocksure, and so blinded by my own damn ego.” Price laughs, taking a short drag.
“ I was convinced that the world was settled on my shoulders and I was the only one to fix all the fucked up shit I was born into. And then…then I led a team of 14 other men and women, younger than you, into a fire fight set up for us to fail. When it was all said and done, I was back on base with the only other survivor and you know what my captain said to me?”
Price drops his legs and leans forward, gently brushing hair from soaps tear stained face. Their eyes meet as Johnny pushes his face into the comforting palm of John’s hand.
“She told me ‘John, you can’t save everyone, but you saved one’. You saved Gaz, John. Wheather you believe it now or not, you saved one. Yeah, he’s a little worse for the wear, but he’ll pull through. My boys always do.”

Oh 100%
The largest mass shooting in American history was a hate crime against gay people. Don’t ever forget that.
June 12, 2016. Putting a date on this for when it gets reblogged months from now by people who think the post is about something from 30, 40 years ago.
I am a survivor of the Pulse nightclub shooting, having grown up in Orlando and just turned 20 a month prior. If you didn’t know, there were several families who refused to claim the bodies of their relatives due to their sexuality. One family even had their relative’s name removed from the memorial. Murdered by the same hate with which their families reject them in both life and death.
Many, many people celebrated Pulse. We were told we deserved it. That it was God’s punishment for our sin of loving the same sex. We are sent messages like these I received in 2018:
We in the community often call the victim count 49+ to include the survivors who couldn’t live with the pain.
The event was never officially declared a hate crime or targeted homophobic attack and is rarely listed as one in databases.
At our vigils for those slaughtered, Extremist Christian groups showed up to protest, holding signs like this:
ID: Me kissing a woman I was casually seeing in front of an angry looking man with a “Sodomy is Sin” sign.
Please understand how much more than just a mass shooting this was. We are still to this day harassed and told we deserved it by some.
This year was the sixth anniversary. The first couple years I received dozens of messages checking in on me on 6/12. Year 5 got enough news coverage for people to think to reach out to me. This year it was my therapist, the woman I kissed in that photo, and a couple of other gun violence survivor friends. People are forgetting already.
With the 7 year anniversary <2 weeks away, I figured I’d reblog this
I FUCKING LOVE MY FRIENDS!!!!!!!! FUCK YEAHHH!!!!!! THEYRE SO AWESOME!!!!! REBLOG IF YOUR FRIENDS ARE FUCKING AWESOME AND COOL AND YOU LOVEE THEMMMMM!!!!!!!!!

cis people can reblog this but keep it on subject, please
Happy pride month everyone always remember that the sinkhole has an ecosystem large enough to house not only insects but likely several species of small birds or mammals
