Hi, I really love your art, is amazing!!!
thank youu
your recent post about background tutorials was so interesting! Thank you for sharing. The sketch of the dog at the grave? got me right in the heart. I really love your work! ❤️
aaaa thank you so much!! i'm glad you liked it🫶
BACKGROUND TUTORIAL!!!
honestly, backgrounds, landscapes and all that stuff is the most enjoyable part of drawing for me so i'm gonna share how i do it
if i do a photo study, i try to make the whole piece less detailed and more based on recreating the colours and shapes that would make up the general vibe i'm aiming for rather than copying everything that is visible in the photo
(or even if i'm not doing a photo study and try to draw from my imagination, it's better to operate with simple shapes and then add details gradually)
so, when it comes to planning out the whole background, i usually focus on those simple shapes and skip the sketch phase cause it actually makes it more difficult (at least for me)
SOMETIMES though, i do a sketch but only when i have something else in mind and not only the basic landscape, like adding some characters or animals or other important objects
...but more often than not i add them later cause my process of thinking when drawing is really chaotic so i usually decide to add something in the middle of creating (like here) if a random idea suddenly pops up in my mind lmao
after drawing those basic shapes i add more and more details, shadows, lighting, etc... at this point i merge all of the layers if i decided to start with a sketch; if not - i draw everything on only one layer from the very beginning (but it's just my personal preference and also a matter of habit ig)
i like to make some aspects of my backgrounds more vibrant and saturated so that they can stand out more and the whole background isn't that dull; i usually do it with clouds, lighting or smaller details, like here
also! a little tip on blending colours and drawing a basic lighting from me - if you use this more saturated colour for, let's say clouds, blend it a little with the base colour of any object you want to put lighting on. the new colour can be used like that, it's slightly less saturated and fits better
i've probably mentioned that some time ago but i play A LOT with saturation and darkness of the colours during my process of creating cause i feel like the colours i pick at the very beginning are a bit too dim and muted to my liking and making them more vibrant makes the whole piece more interesting imo
and that's it! it's really not that complicated, mainly just playing with shapes, colours and their saturation and depth;>

was curious what your art of the deer with a target over both their heads meant- and also if it was relevant that they were both does
absolutely gorgeous work <3
thank you so much!
for me, it's a symbolic portrayal of hardships in a relationship that's never meant to be, influenced by the outside factors and some circumstances that can happen during the course of said relationship that can push it to its limits or show that sometimes love is not enough for it to survive. it's this "star-crossed lovers" type of situation where two people can't be together for reasons that are beyond their control, they are "doomed" from the beginning.
i also wanted to capture the sad reality of being in a queer relationship in a judgmental, homophobic society, hence, i'm moving to the question about two does.
it wasn't exactly intentional or personal in a way that i can relate to lesbian love since i'm a gay man, although the general idea and experiences can be similar, cause after all i just wanted to emphasize the significance of it being a queer love, as i've mentioned before
it's sort of a second part to a piece i've drawn some time ago, where i portrayed two bucks (https://www.tumblr.com/swagvo1d/783715693143228416/they-took-you-from-me) but i didn't want to replicate the same exact feeling (though i aimed for something similar) so i went with does this time
Hi! I just found Tumblr today, and the first thing I saw was your beautiful art! I'm currently reading Husky and his white cat, and was wondering if that danmei was your favorite?
aaaa that's so nice to hear, i'm so glad you enjoy my art<3
and yes! that's absolutely my favourite, even though i've read other danmeis i think nothing can compare to what erha made me feel:') such a beautiful story
enjoy your reading!!!

LINEART TUTORIAL!!!
since i was asked to do this, let's break down my usual process of doing lineart...
....if it could even be qualified as such cause i'm not used to doing lineart in the typical sense (where most of people usually think about it in terms of drawing cleaner lines on top of a sketch and only then adding base colours on a separate layer)
i'm gonna show you the whole process on a drawing i've made a couple of months ago
first, i make a sketch. it's almost always very messy and the final piece often ends up looking differently either way so i don't bother with adding many details
then, i go straight to putting base colours on a layer below my sketch. at this point i often struggle with finding the right saturation and brightness so i adjust them A LOT in the next steps
i add some shadows and work on the background a bit (i will make a separate tutorial about my background process!)
and probably my favourite part:') at this point i often merge all of the layers so that i won't mess anything up and start drawing on a wrong layer by mistake. here, i just add more shadows, lighting, i try to cover up the sketch with colours, and kind of "give shape" to my drawing, if you know what i mean. i also make the colours more saturated and bright
(i'm not really familiar with other drawing apps, but if you have procreate, it's also fun to play with the curves tool)
and finally!!! the lineart part!
i often erase the edges and try to make it look cleaner. then, still on the same layer, i pick colours that are a bit darker than those of the shadows and do the lines. i also add more details in this step
also later i adjust the colours even more and add more and more details (sometimes i draw over the lines with even darker tone if i feel like it would fit the general vibe of the drawing better) but that's pretty much it!
hope some of you will find it useful<3
would you ever consider doing a background or lineart tutorial?
ooohh i can do some! i have plenty of time now so stay tuned, i will post them soon
