Wolfstar: It’s Always Been You
“Padfoot, I swear, if you don’t get your ass back here right this instant, I will throw you in the lake.”
To say Remus was pissed was an understatement. Sirius was in for the greatest ass-whooping ever, that’s if Remus could ever catch him.
Remus knew Sirius was up to something when Sirius came bounding down to the common room earlier this morning.
Sirius was never happy that early in the morning, unless he had pulled a prank.
“Padfoot, what in Merlin’s name have you done?”
“My dear Moony, what on earth gives you the idea that i’ve done something that’s different from my normal?”
“Well Padfoot,” Remus started, pulling his fake thinking face. Sirius would never admit it, but he loved when Remus pulled that face. He looked like a puppy. Sirius had to fight hard to prevent his smile.
“…you’re never this happy of a morning Sirius, not unless you’ve pulled a prank, or a girl.”
Sirius snapped back into reality at Remus’ voice. He internally cringed; Remus was awfully observant, probably more than for his own good, and he probably saw the heart eyes Sirius had given him just moments before…and the thousands of moments before that.
“Moony, you look into things too much.” Sirius had turned back on his confidence in a matter of seconds, he couldn’t be insecure in front of Remus, it would probably repulse him.
“Actually, Padfoot, I think I’m just observant.” Remus gave his half smile and Sirius positively melted inside.
Sirius gave up about 5 minutes later.
“Fine Moony, you win.” Sirius sighed, collapsing against the tree.
“Sirius where did you put my chocolate?” Remus demanded.
Sirius decided to test his luck a little more; push the boundaries of Remus’s patience.
“Sirius Black you tell me where it is right this instant.”
Sirius winced at Remus’s harsh tone.
“Fine, after dinner, I will give it back to you.”
Something snapped in Remus. He jumped at Sirius, tackling him around the ground. Sirius fought back just as hard until he had pinned Remus’s hips to the ground with his knees.
“After dinner, Moony.” Sirius’s voice had gone slightly tremulous, and Remus couldn’t help but think there was an innuendo hidden in his response.
Watching Remus’s face for just a second longer, Sirius rolled off Remus, and sat back up beside the tree.
Moments of silence passed, tension growing thick. They both knew what each other were thinking about. Even though it had always been unspoken, they both knew their intentions with each other.
James and Lily always had teased Remus and Sirius about having underlying feelings for one another, but they never noticed the squirms or flushes the two would get whenever the other was brought up. They were both in love, it was just that neither one knew it yet.
In the end, it was Remus who spoke first.
“You mean everything to me, ya know.” his voice was barely an octave above a whisper, but Sirius heard what Remus had said like he had put a megaphone to his ear and shouted through it.
“I know.” Sirius’s voice matched Remus’s, in both pitch and tone.
“It’s always been you, Padfoot. No one else.”
Sirius closed his eyes. They were the words he’s wanted to hear Remus say to him for the longest time, ever since he saw Remus on the train during first year.
“It’s always been you Moony. No one ever held a candle to you. Ever.”
Remus turned to face Sirius and placed his hand on Sirius’s cheek.
Somewhere, through all the nerves and giggles, they met in the middle, lips touching in a kiss. It was hot and intense, but they could feel all the love behind it. It was perfect.
Somewhere, behind a bush, they briefly noted James shouting and Lily cheering, but they didn’t care. It was Remus and Sirius, Moony and Padfoot, two halves of one whole.
The werewolf and the dog, together, at last.
