Like â Here is the Advil bottle in front of me. Did I take them yet or did I get it out of my bag and get distracted before I got to that step?

yeah theres no way to stop using amazon completely because they own so many things and many websites use them for hosting, but audible is something we really dont need. amazon is already trying to replace public libraries with âaudible amazon librariesâ and we cant let that happen. your libraries are already payed for with taxes ((though normally way underfunded because politicians normally dont care enough))Â
use libby or overdrive for audiobooks or ebooks, support libraries and buy from their used books sale (ive scored so many awesome books, and old books! as well as some great cds and movies) , and many libraries also mail out books!! theres so many options and libraries are always changing to make themselves more accessible for everyone, so support them! theyre such an important part of your community.
also you can just ask for your library to order a book if they dont have it, or they can borrow it from neighboring libraries in your county or even other counties depending on the place! libraries are the best and when i was homeless they were one of the best resources i could have asked for with free ac, wifi, good bathrooms, and books books books ad well as so many other resources, groups, clubs, events ⌠please support your local library!Â
HEY! YES! This is important! You can check out books from your local library (along with audiobooks and movies and music too!!) without ever having to leave your home. Hereâs some links if you donât know what OP was talking about: OverDrive, Hoopla
BUT ALSO!! Right now libraries are facing a problem with a new policy from very large publisher called Macmillan thatâs due to be enacted in November.Â
As Jessamyn West explains in her article on CNN:
For the first two months after a Macmillan book is published, a library can only buy one copy, at a discount. After eight weeks, they can purchase âexpiringâ e-book copies which need to be re-purchased after two years or 52 lends. As publishers struggle with the continuing shake-up of their business models, and work to find practical approaches to managing digital content in a marketplace overwhelmingly dominated by Amazon, libraries are being portrayed as a problem, not a solution. Libraries agree thereâs a problem â but we know itâs not us.
52 lends is nothing when it comes to popular books. In essence, this new policy would require libraries to re-purchase the same eBooks over and over just to continue to provide access to their readers.Â
Libraries already have to go through a lot of hoops and extra expense to provide digital content, and this policy will just make it even harder, more time consuming, and more expensive, thus making it more difficult for libraries to provide eBooks at a time when demand for eBook access at libraries is growing exponentially. Both the ALA and the PLA have come out strongly against thus policy, and it sets a TERRIBLE precedence for other publishing houses and future policies. Itâs a bad idea thatâs expensive and ultimately punishes the people who need libraries the most.
But YOU can do something about it, right now! Help us tell Macmillan publishing that their new policy is terrible and will adversely affect the people who need digital library access the most!Â
Check out the ALAâs action page for some great graphics and an auto-tweet form that will let you voice your displeasure to Macmillan directly.Â
Or you can just copy and paste it into Twitter from here, and add the graphic too if you want:Â
Limiting access to new titles for libraries means limiting access for readers who are most dependent on libraries. @MacmillanUSAâs new policy is unacceptable, John Sargent. Cancel the embargo. #eBooksForAll
Please help us keep library eBooks accessible for all! Not only will you help your libraries, but as OP explained, the more you use your libraries and other legal means of acquiring digital books and content, the more you take away from Amazonâs unconscionable domination of the eBook and digital content market. Itâs a win-win.Â
Libby has kept me sane through quarantine like nothing else. Take the time to support your local library and follow the links above.
Idea:
Medusa wasnât Cursed with Snake Hair and Scales.
She Already had Snake Hair and Scales and was still the hottest lady the Gods have ever seen.
To be fair Medusa is supposedly one of the three Gorgon sisters, so it makes sense that there would be a family resemblance
Yeah thatâs why I had to post this
Iâve read too many stories where itâs like âsheâs a Gorgonâ then near the end of the story they say âshe was cursed with snake hair and featuresâ
And Iâm just like ââŚWait.â
I think the only thing she was truly cursed with were the eyes that turn people to stone
someone draw beautiful medusa with scales and snake hair before being cursed p le a s e
I already had a little idea in my head soâŚ
The men yell, âsheâs a monster! She should be hunted down and killedâ. Theyâve said it before, theyâve tried it before. She steals women and devours them, the men yell. âShe comes in the night and takes women away when theyâre on a half-awake wander to the chamber pot or a drink of water. She steals them away to her lair and devours them whole. Why else do women not return?â
The women whisper, âsheâs a savior. She should be sought for sanctuary and love.â They whisper it around the well whenever they see the shadows of a bruise on their friendsâ bodies. Whenever someone who once was vivacious and bright is now dull and flinches from friendly touches. âGo in the night,â they say, âwhen heâs so drunk he sleeps heavily. Take only what he wonât notice is missing. Donât worry about clothes or food, she will provide. You will be cared for. Why would you want to return?â
She says, âwelcome home. You will be safe here,â with a soft smile and softer eyes. The snakes that curl around her head are more colors than youâve ever seen in your life. She tilts her head as she takes in your bundle of precious items, the bruises on your arm, your face, around your neck. A cloud passes over her face and the sun, and you see the snakes are black. The look passes, the cloud moves away, the sun strikes the snakes again and theyâre a shifting array of colors again. âCome, meet your sisters,â she says, gesturing as she turns and you look to see dozens of women coming out of the cave, smiling and happy. The group comes forward, splitting to either side of you, leaving a path to the cave and a path behind you leading back. âWelcome, youâre safe.â You step forward, peace settling into your heart. You will never return.

The men at the drinking party sat around laughing at the younger man. âYou mean to tell us that a woman was beating her husband? Ha! What a jokester you are.â
âYou are probably just too embarrassed to admit you got that black eye from doing something stupid.â
âBesides even if you were telling the truth, just be a man and fight back! Or have you no guts at all? We all know your wife is a spitfire but she is still a woman, and you are a man.â
The young man was used to these responses from the older men of the village, to the point that his heart was turned to stone from it. His wife, whom he had been arranged to marry, was not like most of the other women he had met in his life. She was cruel and truly wicked and often drunk. She took advantage of the young manâs youth and lack of experience. Even if the people thought that she was a weak woman, she knew that she was stronger than her young husband, who had less strength than a hungry dog. And of course, no one would believe that a woman could overpower a young man like that.
On this day however, the young man decided to take a chance. He approached the well where he had often seen one woman in particular talking to the women who had vanished only a day or two before then, and she was there today.
âExcuse me. I have a quick question for you.â
The woman, who was just pulling her bucket out of the well turned to him somewhat surprised. âYes?â
âIsâŚis it trueâŚwhat the women whisper about the Gorgon in the woodsâŚthatâŚshe helps women whose husbands beat them?â
The woman seemed suspicious of him at first, âWhere did you hear that?â
âI justâŚâ the man looked around nervously before removing the bandages from his face to show her his purple-ringed eye and swollen lip.
The woman hesitated before repeating the words she often did to many others, â Go in the night,â she said, âwhen he-âŚshe is so drunk he sleeps heavily. Take only what she wonât notice is missing. Donât worry about clothes or food, she will provide. You will be cared for. Why would you want to return?â
Before the young man could even thank her, his wife stormed up behind him, âWhat are you doing talking to another woman!?â
The young man hesitated before the woman at the well said, âHe saw me struggling with my bucket and came to help me. Nothing more.â
âI see.â his wife grumbled, clearly still skeptical.
A few nights later, the young man fled. He was quiet and stealthy, until he got to the forest, where he quickly pushed forward into a sprint. He ran and ran, doing his best to remember the directions to the place that promised safety.
Once at last he came across the cave, he stood panting at its mouth before taking his first steps in. He soon found himself in a big lit chamber, women whom he had recognized as from his same village sat around. Some drinking and eating, others playing games, others braiding each otherâs hair. But when he entered, they all looked up at him, some in surprise, others in shock, or fear.
âWhat is a man doing here?â they whispered, âHas the village sent a mercenary after Medusa?â âAre we no longer safe here?â the whispers grew into an almost deafening cacophony of the same hopelessness he felt back in the village. Surely, he thought, these women who are fearful of their husbands would not want to welcome a man among them. Perhaps I should have stayed at home, and let them be.
However, when he turned to leave, he found himself face to face with the gorgon woman. Her eyes seemed to pierce deep into his very soul, as if to weed through the annals of his true self.
His mind raced, trying to think of what to say to defend himself against this protector of women, to justify his entrance into this blessed sanctuary for the broken and beaten. But before he could part his lips, she spoke.
âFear not my sisters. Look upon the wounds on his face. He too has come hear for safety from violence. Look into his eyes. He is afraid and hurt, as many of you were when you first came to me. Young man, you are welcome here, for this is a place of safety from cruelty. I know all too well that the hardships of life do not discriminate those of whom they strike against. Come, to your new home, and meet your sisters. Come and be safe.â
She gently took his bundles and began to carry them away, and when she looked back at him to see if he was following, he felt her eyes peer deep inside him, and begin to shed away the stone that had encased his heart.
