TIFF TUFF

this class, japanese popular culture, has been covering very interesting and beautiful movies from japan throughout the semester, from the 1973 film the man who stole the sun to 2022's inu-oh, and how they relate to popular culture and society. how they establish and subvert expectations, how they "Reimagine" things from disasters to history to institutions. so when our professor said we could do our final project on anything as long as it was modern, easily accessible, and reimagined things, i immediately turned to him and said we should present on sparkle on raven. he agreed, and then a few weeks later we made This.

it was a 22 minute presentation going over the ways in which sparkle on raven not only reimagines fanime, but anime and cartooning at large. we talked about visual and audio quality, the release schedule, the inspirations (and thus, what was being reimagined). a particular note i'm proud of is that first gif comparing teto to nanami to drillgirl. fading between all those images was alex's idea. i loved it

this presentation is both a culmination of what this class taught and, more importantly, our mutual love for sparkle on raven!! who would have guessed that two people at some random college would have both watched (and genuinely loved) this little youtube series!! making the presentation was a genuine joy and i hope all of you who took the time to read this elaboration can see the passion that went into the presentation :+]
