I'm not the only one partial to the D-pad made of buttons (as on the paired JoyCons), am I? I love 2D games that call for digital movement-input. And... The D-pad made of actual buttons is great for these! You always know exactly what directions you're pressing. No possibility of wrong diagonals. All my Mario Maker 2 playtime has been on it.
I have various complaints about the paired JoyCons, but the D-pad made of buttons is not one of them. The analog sticks are just... Wrong to move around, somehow. Frustrating to use in a way that's hard to describe. There are plenty of complaints to have about the paired JoyCons.
But I wish that the rest of the industry would just give us D-pads made of buttons as the standard kind of D-pad. 2D games should not be an afterthought, and we deserve the best!
