can i ask anyone who is a UK citizen on here to please sign and share this petition to increase funding for eating disorder treatment.

since the pandemic there has been a large rise in eating disorder patients requiring treatment. as of yet, in many areas the clinics are dealing with a large backlog of patients, and consequently many are refused treatment, especially those in the early stages of an eating disorder, such as people who may not yet be displaying many typical symptoms of disorders, who may still be a healthy weight, whose blood test results may not yet show signs of severe damage. (content below may be especially triggering for some, discretion advised)

i have seen my friend, who despite two (!!) separate diagnoses for anorexia nervosa, be refused treatment on the grounds of their condition not being severe enough for the chronically underfunded NHS to treat.

i have seen my younger sister, who exhibits many of the behavioural signs of an eating disorder, and who over the past 6 months alone has lost 14kg (30 lbs) of her body weight, be refused treatment on the same grounds.

studies show that those who manage to find treatment in the earlier stages have the best chances of survival. and with a condition that has around a 10% mortality rate this is especially important.

currently, as i have demonstrated above, the NHS is not adequately treating many patients who NEED this treatment. increasing funding is crucial in remedying this deficit. please do sign and share this petition. there has been a petition in the past which reached 13,000 signatures, but ideally this would reach more than 100,000, necessitating a debate in parliament. many of you know that this government, all-consumed by brexit policy, is keen to ignore issues such as this. it must be made inconvenient for them to do so, as it is the only way action is going to occur. any support you can give will make a difference!
