I will never get over Genya having an amplifier in the kos duology 😭 like maybe I just missed the mention when she appeared in CK but like…the only mention of it is from Nikolai saying “Genya’s kestrel bones” and then it’s never brought up in kos again (I’ve barely started my row reread so maybe it’s brought up again) but like why would Genya need an amplifier??? Why would she want one??? Genya has never been a character that craves power and I cannot see her killing a creature solely to increase her own power (because she would have to be the one to kill it) also we get no information as to where she wears it?? A necklace? A bracelet? A anklet even??? also from my understanding kestrels are really common birds in Russia so they’d presumably be common in Ravka too, which goes against the whole amplifiers are rare thing??? and from the reader’s perspective, having most your main Grisha cast in these books have amplifiers, also takes away from that worldbuliding at least in my opinion. If she wanted to give another Grisha an amplifier, Adrik, Nadia, David or even Nina (if she wanted to explore how that might interact with her new powers) would’ve made way more sense 😭

IKR I don't see her killing an animal for an amplifier and it was weird that it is just off handedly mention. Why give someone an amplifier that they didn't have before if not to expand on the uses of their powers or on the uses of amplifiers in general. At least I'm pretty sure in the show we learn about one of the twins amplifier.

But also I do think the amplifiers can be common animals, but like not all of that animal are amplifiers. Like one kestral was an amplifier, but other one's weren't.
no bc exactly this??? We didn’t know about Zoya’s amplifier before but I’m fine with that because we learn about where it came from, it impacts Zoya’s character and is very significant to her storyline. And I’d like to hear the story of how the twins got their amplifiers but like it makes sense for them to have them and shark teeth specifically make sense because they were sailors, the twins are pretty self-explanatory.
my explanation as to why Bardugo would choose a kestrel for Genya is their relatively small birds and Genya as a generally non violent character and has (presumably) no experience in hunting, it would be relatively easy for her to kill. (this could be entirely incorrect, I have no experience in bird hunting) the most in character explanation I can think of for why Genya got an amplifier is her finding a Kestrel on the verge of death and past the point of no return, so she decides to put the poor thing out its misery and then realizes it’s amplifier after and rather than letting it go to waste, she decides to claim for herself
and that’s fair! I was mostly just dumping my thoughts here and the same thing could be said about the twins shark teeth, sharks are very common! My main complaints is how ooc it feels for Genya
