My personal favorite frame. I feel like the lighting here is really soft, and that my art style shines the most here.
wait wait wait. ok so we all saw what the Night Nurse did to Charles the first time she did her “inside his head” magic on him, right? we all saw him relive all those awful moments, of his friends murdering him and his dad beating him with nothing he could ever do to stop any of it. TO ME it seems like he more or less, in real time, relived all that. it freaked him out to the point that he snapped, attacked the Night Nurse, and scared everyone around him, including Edwin, who’d been with him for decades.
in The Case of the Very Long Stairway, he relived his death. and yeah, we’ve talked about how warm and sweet his memory of his own death is, but we saw how impacted he was by the other memories the Night Nurse made him experience. Charles didn’t even flinch.
being forced to relive his death didn’t retraumatize him. it just reaffirmed EXACTLY why he needed to go and rescue Edwin. because Edwin had done the same for him
