i love making friends in fandom, i love playing with our toys together, i love coming up with increasingly niche aus, i love lifting strangers up, i love motivating people to create, i love watching someone get excited over an idea and immediately running with it, i love yelling in tags together, i love seeing someone gain confidence in their writing/art because people were kind to them <33
I actually recommend everyone write for a rarepair once because it completely changes your relationship with fandom. Engagement stops being numbers and starts being names. You know who's going to show up. You recognize usernames. Someone disappears for a while and then comes back and you're like “OH MY GOD WELCOME HOME.” It's incredibly wholesome. It is also deeply inconvenient when all six of you simultaneously get writer's block-
It also forever ruins your relationship with people who enjoy popular ships ESPECIALLY if you find yourself suddenly in a massive fandom.
like if you think a ship that I do believe has over 15,000 works is a RAREPAIR I will personally end your bloodline and destroy all you hold dear. My favorite ship has ELEVEN works on ao3.
Idk what this is I just got bored
“You write the beginning and then you go back and rewrite the beginning, and you never got off page one. It’s kind of a syndrome, and I have a rash piece of advice which is — Go on, page two, page three, and never look back. Get something finished, no matter how lousy it is. […] Perfectionists cannot get going unless they kind of do violence to their own instincts, and just blast ahead.”

Riz didnt have any friends as a kid except Penny so in summer while school was out he'd sometimes go down to the riverbank, line up cans on an old log, and practice hitting them with a rock thrown from his slingshot.
It was an old fashioned slingshot, made from a couple old bootlaces and a scrap of cloth that he carefully braided together to make a sling that he could fold up and shove in his pocket. For ammunition he just picked up the smooth riverstones near the bank, making sure to grab the best looking ones that were the perfect size to practice with.
He got pretty good at it too, only stopping his practice for the day once his cans were too damaged to make good targets anymore.
As an older teen he's really able to put some beans into it and, if his arcubus is out of ammo, as long as he has rocks or debris he can grab he can still punch through armor or stun large monsters without much trouble. Plus a wadded up bit of string and leather is pretty hard to find in a pat-down so he even has it with him in situations where they have to leave their weapons at the door.
Fabian has seen Riz punch a hole in a tree with a coin before when he got tipsy at a party and was goaded into showing off.
shipping a consensual, safe & sane pairing all the while i'm shaking my head in disapproval so the audience knows i still love wildly toxic abusive fictional dynamics
Can you imagine freshman year Adaine trying to look into Fig's future partner because she's worried that she's hooking up with all this older men but because she cant really control what she sees the only info she gets is the last name Aguefort and age 400+
best m/f dynamic is a flamboyant bisexual show-off desperately in love with an extremely practical girl who’s difficult to impress 🤩

date idea: i lay down on ur lap and you pet my head and tell me im not too much
So, I lurk in some writer subreddits, and a frequent topic of discussion is prose: what constitutes good prose, how do you write it, how do you improve it, etc. And yesterday I stumbled across one topic about the difference between good descriptive prose, and purple prose. OP asks people to share some of their favourite authors who they think write beautiful prose without tipping into purple. No problem; people are happy to oblige.
One person says that Steinbeck is one of their favourite authors for prose, and then they share an example of what they would consider purple prose. It is so violetly awful that I think the poster must have written it themselves as a kind of parody of purple prose. Other people assumed the same.
But as it turns out, they are quoting from a book written by a YouTuber whose channel ia dedicated to talking about writing (namely, their own writing, which is genius, but often not comprehensible to the drooling plebs).
Naturally, I read the free sample of their book in awe and horror, and I'd like to share some screenshots with you. If you also have trouble defining or understanding what purple prose is, it's this.
Yes, every single fucking page is written like this.
Reading some more of the preview for this book, and I realise this is by far not the biggest problem, but I'm begging this guy to just use 'shadow' instead of 'umbra'. I promise I will not accuse you of being a philistine.
'Noctilucent orbs'. Even fanfic written by a 14-year-old wouldn't dare.
The author is a man in his 30s, btw.
*throws this in the face of everyone who has ever accused me of writing purple prose*
me (crazy eyes, covered in blood): I NEED to finish writing my fanfic. so I can start writing a different fanfic.
Bloodied man losing a fight, voice broken with arousal: “Oh, you’re good”
I am finding much enjoyment in Sophomore year
It will never stop being funny to me that Riz and Adaine have, arguably, the most brutal kills in the whole show and they both happen in Season 1. When they are 14 years old. Like. What.
Riz is a kid walking around like a Newsies extra that decided to be in a noir film. He thinks that handing out business cards is an efficient way to make friends in a public high school. Then he blasts the brains out of a very dangerous man who wanted to kill them, and then shoots what's left of his head three more times "just in case".
Adaine is a wafer-thin private school kid who has never done A Violence in her entire life. Until she beats an adult woman over the head with her own cooking implement so hard that she loses several teeth and then dies. On her first day of school. She's a wizard by the way. I love them both sm

Pros of rereading your own fics: Holy shit this is amazing
Cons of rereading your own fics: How is there always a typo I missed every single time I read this
