After some Google Image searching, I found the artist: Ekaterina Burmak. Knight Banneret Viona Kadarius, Human Cavalier 8 from Adventure Path 105, The Inferno Gate (Hell’s Vengeance)
The image is not currently in her DeviantArt gallery, but she has similar stuff.
Did anyone know that Reddit has a subreddit devoted solely to art of realistically armored women, that bans boobplate? https://www.reddit.com/r/armoredwomen/ They were discussing this image here.
We’ve featured some of Ekaterina’s work for Pathfinder on BABD before.
So this one servers as an excellent example of making a prestigious version of the same group’s armor without making it look impractical or a liability to the wear of the armor. Outstanding.

Please stop using dangerous language toward women’s bodies.
<...>
So why is this problematic?
Because her “self” is not defined by her outfits and her makeup and her hairstyle. She’s just as much Selena on a red carpet as she is in a hoodie walking in a theme park.
She is just another female celebrity who can’t win.
So, why are women in Hollywood getting plastic surgery in the first place? Because Hollywood values beauty, of course. And if they want to stay relevant or continue to work, they need to meet the high standards of beauty set for them.
A study based on 2019 films found that women over 50 had zero leading roles and males over 50+ outnumbered them on-screen 2-to-1. Actors like Emma Thompson have spoken out about this issue. Reese Witherspoon created a production company almost exclusively to bring more dynamic female roles to the screen.
“It was getting laughable,” Reese told Fast Company in 2018, “how bad the parts were, particularly for women over 35.”
<...>
Stop blaming the actresses. Start blaming the system.
The language around these actresses is very telling. Allow me to explain:
“What has she done to her face?” Yes, she’s the one paying for these services, but she is not the doctor here. That’s like saying “what have you done to yourself?” when you take a prescription that you have an allergic reaction to.
“She’s unrecognizable.” I’ve made my feelings about this word known, but let’s be clear: people use this if it’s just natural aging or altered aging. If your face isn’t identical to what it once was in a movie or show, then you’re basically a completely different person.
“Used to be beautiful.” Could this be any clearer? We value beauty… young beauty.
Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
How do we fix this problem?
We need to shift the narrative on aging.
We need more movies and TV shows with leading women who are 50+. We need to celebrate women as they age and redefine what “aging gracefully” means. If you’re aging, congrats. You’re alive. And that’s f*cking beautiful.

I think the “women are mysterious” thing can also come from:
1) Women actually being quite clear, but not telling men what they want to hear. ”She said she doesn’t want to talk to me? So many mixed messages and confusing signals!”
2) Women not having cheat codes. ”I tried being nice, and she didn’t have sex with me. I tried being an asshole, and she didn’t have sex with me. Come on, there’s got to be some kind of solution to this puzzle!”
3) Women not being a hive mind. ”First a woman told me that she likes guys with big muscles. Then the very next day a woman told me she thinks muscles aren’t attractive at all. Make up your mind, women!”
4) An individual woman doing something confusing, and instead of asking “why is she doing this now?” men ask “why do women always do this?”
It’s an old tradition that during a leap year women could propose to men. This was usually depicted as old or ugly women trapping men, but some art focused more on the role reversal and could be quite cute.
I have a soft spot in my heart for the last one because it plays on the idea of “undesirable” people, a tall masculine woman and a shy effeminate man, finding each other but instead of mocking them depicts it as sweet that she could finally ask him because he was too shy and insecure to ask her.
Donna Tobias - the first woman to graduate from the US Navy’s Deep Sea Diving School in 1975.
Brave women of the Red Cross hitting the beach at Normandy.
Dottie Kamenshek was called the best player in women’s baseball and was once recruited to play for a men’s professional team.
Kate Warne - Private Detective. Born in New York City, almost nothing is known of her prior to 1856 when, as a young widow, she answered an employment advertisement placed by Alan Pinkerton.
She was one of four new agents the Pinkerton Detective Agency hired that year and proved to be a natural, taking to undercover work easily. She had taken part in embezzlement and railroad security cases when in 1861 the Pinkertons developed the first lead about an anti-Lincoln conspiracy.
Catherine Leroy, female photographer in Vietnam.
The three women pictured in this incredible photograph from 1885 – Anandibai Joshi of India, Keiko Okami of Japan, and Sabat Islambouli of Syria – each became the first licensed female doctors in their respective countries.
The three were students at the Women’s Medical College of Pennsylvania; one of the only places in the world at the time where women could study medicine.
Female Samurai Warrior - Onno-Bugeisha - Female warrior belonging to the Japanese upper class. Many women engaged in battle, commonly alongside samurai men. They were members of the bushi (samurai) class in feudal Japan and were trained in the use of weapons to protect their household, family, and honour in times of war.
One of the most feared of all London street gangs from the late 1880’s was a group of female toughs known as the Clockwork Oranges. They woulde later inspire Anthony burgess’ most notorious novel. Their main Rivals were the All-female “the Forty Elephants” gang.
Maureen Dunlop de Popp, Pioneering female pilot who flew Spitfires during Second World War. She joined the Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA) in 1942 and became one of a small group of female pilots who were trained to fly 38 types of aircraft.
In 1967, Kathrine Switzer was the first woman to run the Boston marathon. After realizing that a woman was running, race organizer Jock Semple went after Switzer shouting, “Get the hell out of my race and give me those numbers.” However, Switzer’s boyfriend and other male runners provided a protective shield during the entire marathon. The photographs taken of the incident made world headlines, and Kathrine later won the NYC marathon with a time of 3:07:29.

Did you know that after they switched to blind auditions, major symphony orchestras hired women between 30% to 55% more? Before bringing in “blind auditions” with a screen to conceal the the candidate, women in the top 5 major orchestras made up less than 5% of the musicians performing.
so I believe it was actually more complicated than that, in interesting ways. Because at first, when they did blind auditions, they were STILL hiring more men.
…Then they put down a carpet, so that high heels didn’t clack on the floor, and BOOM women were suddenly getting hired.
The testers didn’t even know that’s what they were picking up on, which just goes to show how tiny of a cue it takes for misogyny to kick in.
The case of blind auditions for orchestras and how it dramatically changed the gender makeup of orchestras is a very illuminating example of gender bias, and an interesting possible way of countering it.
You can be sexist without knowing it. You can be racist without knowing it. This is not a moral failing; it is a moral imperative to remember that you are fallible, and take steps to limit the damage your squishy ape brain’s foibles can cause.
What a cool concept, and a cool mashup of armor styles! Even though it’s medieval breastplates with modern helmets, it still looks good and cohesive. I also really like the way they represent motor companies, like in a real racing sport. We really need more creative ideas like these in fantasy.
