Elain choosing what she wants, the choice is always taken from her. She lost her humanity, lose her fiance, she had trauma. And she has the right to make her own choice like she wants to find the trove but Nesta refused it, call her like a dog. Feyre and Nesta babying her and she hates it.

She doesn't want to be fae, she doesn't want a mate, it's about Elain's choose. And she clearly doesn't want her mate, she saw him as part of her trauma, indirectly one of the reason why she got into this shit, she even says to Lucien "you betraying us"

A concept of free will, Elain choosing what and whom she love, choosing LOVE over mate, make her own destiny.

Honey. She decided that a decade ago or so. You have all just been pretending everything is up in the air. But It's not like she didn't know and then sat down yesterday and thought "hm... I'm deciding to go with... that one!"

She is an emotional arcs driven author. A master at foreshadowing. Always has been. She is somewhat a lose canon on world building but only in so far as the world building has to support the emotional arcs. This is her strength. She writes compelling emotional arcs. They are carefully planned. Whatever is the endgame in the next story, was built up across the past five books. Not "decided on" as sjm sat down to to write the next book in a vacuum.

"If sjm decides to go with elriel." They're acting like this was undecided until acotar 6 existed as a final draft. They do not understand writing. And especially not sjm's writing. This is so annoying. Sjm decided on elriel years ago. Their slow burn buildup is spread out across four books. The decision wss made long before gwynriel existed as a concept.

Damn, this is such a pet peeve of mine. Along with "anything can happen, we don't know what the author will write". Good god. Yes, we can know endgame in advance in romantasy. It is usually the point, and it is the journey to that HEA that is the story. Was anyone shocked at Feysand? Nessian? I sure hope not, or they truly have trouble understanding what they're reading. Elriel is no different. "Anything can happen". No. The thing the story has set up is what will happen. And that's a mating bond rejection and three brothers x three sisters.

Acting as though Elriel haven’t been in the works since acomaf/acowar 😭

This. Sjm has meticulously planned the couples out (at least for the first 2 spinoffs) since acowar. It isn’t up in the air, people really believe Sjm is playing some long game and tricking everyone when in reality…she isn’t. That has not been her M.O. for some time now. Instead, her couples have become obvious. Their journey spans over multiple books.

She isn’t sitting down playing enie meeni miny mo with these couples, just shooting whichever one she lands on lmfao.

Yes! Sjm is definitely an emotional arcs over. Its her characters and their relationships - how well written it all is - that has made thousands of readers her fans. These arcs take place over multiple books, they’re layered. There’s stakes, emotional factors, misunderstandings etc that builds her couples up.

This author has said multiple times she foreshadows in advance. She has things planned. She knows the core of what she is writing. She also admitted to not liking it when couples over multiple books break up.

Its simple. She did not have to write elriel. She could have ended the ship in multiple ways. Maas having Elriels last interaction be a charged glance does not scream “this couple has ended”. Maas having Nesta figure out Azriels secret (Elain) does not scream gwynriel endgame. “This was a mistake” is one of the most common microtrope across multiple romantic sub-genres. No couple has actually ever ended with that line.

Elriel is the only couple with a romantic arc. They have stakes. They’re at a misunderstanding right now. They can carry a plot. Their relationship has spanned multiple books. It all fits Sjms established patterns.

It really is annoying, THEY have written elriel off. The books havent. It really astounds me that people will genuinely be shocked at elriel becoming endgame.

Not everything can happen. There’s an established plotline here that Maas will obviously follow. Her foreshadowing for Nessian and Elriel have been consistent across multiple books, her couples especially for acotar, have always been obvious from the main series. The point of the spinoffs is not to create new main couples but to have the pre-established love interests from the main series finally get their story told/the payoff to their story in their own book aka a spinoff.

One of my favorite scenes from the series, Elain gifting Feyre the cake based on the dresser drawers. There's so much to this scene, and this piece, that I adore. The sisterly bonding, Elain trying her best to make up for everything to Feyre, Feyre getting a proper birthday celebration from a family member, the expressions on Elain and Feyres faces, the details and framing of the cake, it's just so perfect.
