I lied, one last thing.
If a g/riel comes across this, you can absolutely choose not to believe me that’s fine. But when I joined the fandom & was neutral whilst I tried to figure out wtf was going on (to be clear I thought elriel after 1st read, Internet not think that, me very confused, me investigate matter, me come out stronger elriel okay we clear) I got a barrage of tiktoks & let me tell you something. The tiktoks themselves? Hateful. The comments? Abysmal. And of the 2 tiktokers that were making elriel vids at that time, both of their comment sections were flooded with vitriol.
Saying that we’ve been harmful is genuinely laughable to me. Because yes, sure I know fine damn well that an elriel somewhere (probably Twitter) has been awful. But do not recite the deep magic to me, witch. What you are witnessing most of the time, and what g&riels moan about, most of the time is us reacting to things they have done. I wasn’t here before silver flames but I have it on very good authority that even within the elriel/EL ships, it was all very tame, nothing remotely like what’s been happening.
The past couple of years has seen an uptick in elriels refusing to bow down to this shit anymore. That is the long & the short of it. And yes again, sure there are some that take it too far. There are even some who don’t ship any of them & just like to cause shit for the love of the game. But if we were to sit down and really start tallying up? Oh goodness. You have no idea.

Of course the side with the horrific fandom etiquette is protecting a thief and scammer, they didn’t care when Katie and cult leader doxxed Elriels.
Accountability feels like bullying when you know you’ve done wrong.
they can't stand the way azriel treats elain bc he does treat her differently to everyone else. azriel is someone who avoids contact with people but actively goes out of his way to be with elain. to check on her. to wish her happy solstice. to listen to her gardening plans until the wee hours of the morning. that is remarkably different to the way he treats others. that's not to say he doesn't like the others, of course he does. but he does not consistently seek them out the way he specifically does with elain. it's that simple i fear
thinking about how azriel willingly stayed up late just to listen to elain tell him about her garden plans, vs gwyn who he literally wanted to stop yapping the one time they were alone together (which only happened because he was too polite to leave like he wanted to)

And another thing:
I don't ship Elriel for Azriel. In fact, if he didn't have any connection to Elain, I wouldn't even think about him. The guy was never a priority for me while I was reading. I only ship Elriel because thats obviously what Elain wants and Elain is who matters to me in the equation.
Which is more than I can say for most Eluciens, who I've only ever seen mock Elain or talk about how mean and horrible she is to poor baby Lulu; and then treat Lucien like the second coming of Jesus.
