Azriel smiled faintly. “Would you like me to show you the garden?” She seemed so small before him, so fragile compared to the scales of his fighting leathers, the breadth of his shoulders. The wings peeking over them. But Elain did not balk from him, did not shy away as she nodded—just once.

Azriel, graceful as any courtier, offered her an arm. I couldn’t tell if she was looking at his blue Siphon or at his scarred skin beneath as she breathed, “Beautiful.” Color bloomed high on Azriel’s golden-brown cheeks, but he inclined his head in thanks and led my sister toward the back doors into the garden, sunlight bathing them.

Before there was "blatant, unrestricted touching", Elain and Azriel shared many quiet moments alone, walking through the gardens or sitting together in the peace and quiet of nature. Touch is not something Azriel is comfortable with many people, he hides his hands and avoids touching others for fear of seeing their disgust at his scars. However, from the very beginning of their 2.5 years of friendship, Elain never balked from him or his touch. That first day in the Townhouse, when he offered her his arm to show her the garden, Elain took it, looked at his hands and called them beautiful. From that moment on, Azriel kept reaching out, taking every opportunity to seek her touch.

with the valkyries: nesta, gwyn and emerie complete the qualifier and he's like, do you want a prize? go again and try not to fuck it up this time.

with amren: makes jokes at her expense despite him knowing she's a biblical angel and could literally smite him.

with rhys and cassian: treats the snowball fight like a gauntlet. put rocks in his snowballs and pelted them at rhys for forbidding him from elain.

with feyre: essentially taught her how to fly by baby-bird pushing her out the nest.

BUT WITH ELAIN: fucking hobbling over to her, still so injured he cannot fly, and presses his most prized possession into her hands trusting that even with negative battle experience, she'll use it well. helps her with dinner by carrying the dishes. the same guy finds nothing funny practically cries his eyes out at a gag gift she gave him. thinks long and hard about what present she might like for solstice. follows the sound of her laughter.
