when I was in undergrad I had this professor who spontaneously decided in the middle of a class on, as far as I could tell, a completely unrelated topic to go on a bizarre tirade about how human pregnancies are actually 10 months long and saying it's 9 months is a patriarchal attempt to minimise women's suffering. she very confidently justified this by explaining that there are four weeks in a month, so 40 weeks is 10 months.

when someone pointed out that a month (except February) is actually four weeks and two to three days, and that 40 weeks (280 days) is a lot closer to 9 months (275 days) than it is to 10 months (305 days), she told him to stop mansplaining.

Namaygoosisagagun First Nation/Collins has burned to the ground. The entire community is nothing but ashes after being quickly consumed by wildfires. They did not have any support from emergency services, and no one offered aid. The community saved themselves by escaping into boats because no one came.

Mishkeegogamang and Cat Lake have lost power. Families are ending up in shelters with nothing. Armstrong, Lac La Croix, Whitesand, Gull Bay, Lac des Mille Lacs are currently in the fires path and all members are being evacuated.

All this loss, all this devastation, and it was entirely preventable.

After steadily underfunding wildland firefighting and purposefully excluding Indigenous wildland firefighters and Indigenous wildfire organizations from wildfire operations, firefighter training, decisionmaking, and resource exchanges, in 2025, Doug Ford slashed the forest firefighting budget.

It's hard to ignore his decision to cut funding and leave us out of adequate fire training (even though we've lived with forest fires for thousands of years—far longer than settlers have been in Canada—and made sure fires like the ones we're all seeing today were prevented through kinisitotēn) when, despite making up less than 5% of the population, we account for 42% percent of all wildfire evacuations in Canada.

And when we are successfully evacuated, we face discrimination and racism—like Kashechewan—because it's always been easier to blame us than it is to blame the true culprit: denialism, corportate greed, and colonization.

The people of Collins and every other impacted community deserve better.

ONWA (Ontario Native Women's Association) is another great place to donate to. They have outreach vans going to motels and inns and offering food, water, resources, and cultural support to those impacted by the wildfires.

Other places to consider donating to are Mikinakoos Emergency Fund, Red Cross, True North Aid, Indigenous Climate Action. You can also send donations directly to Whitesand First Nation via e-transfer ([email protected]) and they request that you add your full name in the e-transfer comment section to receive a tax receipt.

Then in Sinners the most popular guy is the white guy thats the personification of racism assimilation that doesn't appear in half the movie, a movie with 2 michael b jordans and increible black characters. In the locked tomb (book with mostly women) Silas and Colum, 2 white charas who are family and don't appear that much in the first book, have more fics than Coronabeth and Judith, a white woman and a black woman who keep appearing in the story and one of them canonically confessed her love to the other. In BG3 there is more fics with MC X Gortash (light skin bad guy that makes a tiny appearance in act 2 and then appears more in act 3) than MC X Wyll (Black guy who is literally one of the main characters in the game that is also impossible to skip, while you can completelly miss Astarion or Gale on accident). In Dragon Age: The Veilguard Davrin (the black guy) was the guy with less fics before the game was out when no one knew the characters so you couldn't judge in writing or content. In the Bridgerton show the most popular ship is the only main one that features 2 white people, etc etc like it just keeps happening and saying "its the source material, fandom just works with what it has" is just not true.

Like I have loved this show for so many years. I have told people it's in my top 3 shows of all time for so long (even though they never know about Infinity Train). I have seen every episode so many, many times despite rarely being a person to rewatch tv shows.

And no matter how many times I watch it, no matter how many times I finish it, the ache it leaves behind is genuinely as painful as it was the first time when this show ended in 2021. It's not even just that the pain is because it was cancelled. It just always leaves me so emotional and hollow because it's just such a fantastic piece of media. It is a masterclass in handling character driven narratives. It has such clever and unique world building. It never holds your hand or looks down on its audience, expecting you to connect the dots and piece things together. It tackles such heavy subject matter each and every season with so much love and care. Every single protagonist, whether it's Tulip or Lake or Jesse or Simon or Grace or Min-gi or Ryan, is written with so much nuance and complexity.
