Suit fetish.
Spent the last two days working on this little archery guide in art and writing. Considering the rise in popularity of archers in pop culture this hopefully comes in handy for a bunch of fandoms.
Here it is, my long winded tutorial, complete with some step by step action. I see a lot of people talk about wanting to diversify their artwork but not knowing how. This is my help to you. You really should take the time to invest in learning diverse eye shapes as diverse artwork always makes you a better artist. And frankly I’m really tired of drawing tutorials that talk up character diversity but only have the stereotypical “one Asian eye”.
I did some step by steps for those three diagrams, but I actually got them from this blog which has 14 of those examples! (Bonus: it’s a makeup blog so if you need help with that or want some idea of how to shade these eyes, there ya go)

aight suits have come up a lot today. let me try to cobble this together real quick
men’s suits look simple from a distance but they’re actually pretty complicated. this is partly due to the complexity of their task (make any man look good!), and partly due to the length of their evolution
i am not going to pretend an artist needs to be persnickety about Suit Rules, we’ve all probably got better things to do with our time, but there are some basic things one ought not to screw up in order to be passably convincing
SUIT JACKETS ARE NOT WAIST LENGTH. The bottom of the jacket is at least sleeve-length, usually about a palm’s length longer. It’s not unusual for the hem to land at the bottom of the crotch - where the pants split into right and left legs.
KNOW HOW TO DRAW A REAL LAPEL. Lapels are those foldy-outy bits on your coat collars. Some outerwear lapels even button across the coat to protect you from the elements. There’s a LOT of varieties of lapels, though they can be roughly sorted into 3 types. The most common type is the notched lapel. If you don’t want to learn about the other ones, that’s fine. Just make sure you learn that one. Remember that the notch is in the upper third of the lapel, not in the center.
TIE KNOTS SIT FLUSH WITH THE COLLAR. THE COLLAR IS FLUSH WITH THE NECK. for some reason a lot of people’s Babby’s First Suit drawings have these loose dress collars with a neck gap, and then the tie is drawn so it appears loose around said loose collar. You can see the portion of the tie that goes around the neck, coming out of the knot. You shouldn’t be able to see that - you should only be able to see the knot, with the top edges of it under the collar. The collar shouldn’t “gap” from the neck. Furthermore, the back of the jacket should not gap from the collar, unless the characters are doing crazy things with their arms. Point 3 does not apply to people intentionally drawing ill-fitting suits and shitty tie knots.
You can skip town now, if you want. That’s the important stuff.

Hey guys! Here’s a post that I hope some will find helpful, things I have picked up along the way that I wish I had known from the start! These are not set in stone, and only just suggestions, I’m no expert okay guys THINGS I WISH I HAD KNOWN ABOUT PHOTOSHOP: 1. FLOW. Flow was put in place primarily for the airbrush folks. Now its relevance has changed slightly. With textured brushes, try reducing the flow to “expose” texture. 2. Ctrl+U : HUE/SATURATION/LIGHTNESS. For people who are indecisive about color, use this to slide around the color quickly instead of repainting or replacing the color. 3. CLIPPING/ LAYER MASKS. Seriously, take five minutes to do this. A good online resource is ctrlpaint. This will be instrumental in creating hard edges, something beginner digital artists really struggle with. Also non-destructive, you will save SO much time. 4. With that said, ctrl+alt+g makes the current layer you are on a clipping mask. You can layer mask a group. 5. MULTIPLY and the surrounding layer types in its little section is like a dark glaze. Good for shadows. 6. OVERLAY and the surrounding layer types in its little section is like a lightening glaze. Good for lighting. LIGHTEN and the dudes around him are also good for lighting, esp. screen. 7. MAKE YOUR GOSH DARN BACKGROUND IN THE INTERFACE LIGHTER. Your contrast will thank you. Right click on the background of the interface and choose the one you like the best. I know dark grey looks sexy, I know. 8. TRANSFORM TOOLS ARE THE BEST (but paint over them). If you have a tile, pattern, whatever- Image>transform> choose your weapon. Have a tiled floor? Don’t you dare paint all those tiles. Scales? Paint them flat in a square, then use the warp tool to push them around the form. Then make your painterly adjustments. 9. PAINTING SHORTCUTS: Numbers affect the opacity. Shift+ Number affects the flow. Holding down alt gives you the eyedropper. Brackets [] change size of brush, these dudes <> cycle between your brushes. 10. HISTOGRAM. If you have a fairly even histogram, this means your distribution of lights mids and darks is even. If it is skewed, and you don’t mean it to be, adjust accordingly. Just be casual about it and love your art I love you all drawmaevedraw.tumblr.com
